play offs?

Maybe a bit optimistic - but I believe in my boys and I know , we all know, we can beat anyone in this league when we pull our fingers out.. 5 games remain the hardest of them all is Cardiff away but look at what happened when they came to our valley! So ifwe took maximum points from our final 5 and end up on 69 points and maybe a few results go our way we could / should be in with a shout.

Opinions? Hopes? Fears? Come on you Charlton!

  • Could happen in theory, but even if we won our final 5 games I still think it would be out of reach considering the form the likes of Notts Forest , Brighton are in.

I would say that we should be looking at Top Half (11th or 12th) as our 'top target'. Now that would be a fantastic achievement.
  • I'm in no rush
  • I think top half is a massive achievement considering the squad and injuries we've had this year. Playing the majority of the squad are still in from last year. Need to rebuild and strengthen next year though
  • Tip half will be wonderful but for me avoiding relegation was the goal this season. Playoffs may be mathematically possible but realistically it isn't going to happen.
  • When you think how bad weve been at times this season, no thanks!

Id rather not sneak into the playoffs and heaven forbid blag our way into a wembley final only to get hammered there....
  • i will breathe a massive sigh of relief when relegation is no longer mathematically possible.

aim to finish on a high to take momentum into next season and give us moaning lot something to smile about during the off season.
  • Since the formation of the Premier League in 1992, no team has ever made the second tier play-offs with 69 points. The lowest is 70, which has happened only twice. The average is 73.7.

We need to let this one go. Creating false expectations is going to do nobody any good. Regroup and try again next year.

My personal target for this year was 21st, and I would be delighted with a top-half finish.
  • Still got my hopes on clinching the title............................well, you started it ;-)

So what you're saying is a cheeky admin for Palace and a well deserved 15 point deduction for Watford for exploitation and all-round cheating and we could be in? ;-)
  • 9th would be brilliant.

But 60 points would be an exceptional return of points no matter the position.

    that would Be my aim.

Don't think we have a chance at playoffs but due to nature of league this year I reckon 68/69 points will get you into playoffs. It is not usual for teams at bottom to have so many points like this year, the table is very compressed thus I think it leads to a very below average points totals at top.

Not completely beyond the realms of possibility of course, but what you're effectively saying is that either Brighton or Forest won't take 7 points from the last 5 games. Can't see that happening myself...
  • Do I think 69 points could be enough for the play offs this year? - most definitely a chance of that. Will we get them? - no chance. As every game we play is close, we can expect to win some, draw some and lose some, as we have done all season.
  • 'kin hell...and they say I smoke too much ganja...well maybe there's a chance :)
  • Play offs no, but 60 points or beyond would be incredible considering the squad CP has had to work with.
  • Have always said if we finished 4th bottom then it is a successful season. We can dream for higher but aslong as we are safe then the experience the players and manager have got from this season will kick us on for next season.
  • Looking at the table, an interesting scenario is if Bolton (under Freedman and Lennie) pip Palace to the playoffs (only 6 points behind now) or meet Palace IN the playoffs.

At the time moving to Bolton seemed a strange move, but now that decision isn't looking so bad...
  • Playoffs ........behave

  • No chance but would be great if palace faltered further still and we nicked enough polnts to finish in front of them.

I thought we were supposed to be "doing a Reading" this season?
Or was it a Norwich or Southampton?

It's a bit galling to think of the position we could have been in, if we hadn't conceded late goals at home to Huddersfield, Sheff Weds and Birmingham - there's another 6 or 7 points we should have had on the board.

But regardless of our current points total, I believe being placed around 12th reflects well the progress of the team.
  • More chance of getting relegated than getting in the play offs - but neither will happen. Agree that 60 points and a top half finish would be a brilliant outcome this season.

  • keep taking the meds
  • If we got into the playoffs from her we would win them as our form would be 100 percent victories from now until the end if the season...

If we spent even 5 million, and increased the wage bill by maybe 20% we could be a very decent championship outfit and seriously compete...

  • Sorry but you have no chance.

I'm not even confident that we will be in the mix considering our poor form.
  • Was looking good for 10 minutes but then Brighton and Bolton had to go and win. :-(
  • Still not for me, Bolton and Forest will battle it out, great achievement to be even in with a shout considering where we were a few weeks ago!
