  • Too good for us , we're not worthy SCP
  • I read that he just "got lucky" today...

    Some people, eh?
  • I read that he just "got lucky" today...

We've been "getting away with it" all season apparently...

Really think some people would still be moaning if we were top of the premier league
  • dont bite much but some people chat absolute shite regarding this man. He is a Charlton legend, who genuinely cares about the club and he will get better as a manager.
  • But we are going down with Powell in charge don't you know.
  • Dick as you well know he was sacked months ago

When they scored their equaliser this is almost word for word what some idiot sitting next to me said. When Obika scored the winner he just sat there looking like a mug.
  • Problem is the sort of people that spout this crap are never wrong. Even if we're 3 in the Premiership next year... they'll be coming out with reams of shit like "'I stand by the fact that he was a clueless inept clown at the time, but I'm glad to see that he's pushed on and learned the managerial ropes..." blah, blah, blah.

Best off letting these people wallow in their pits of loathing, it wont change.

  • It's far easier to be negative than be positive. When you're negative all you have to do is wait long enough and you'll be proved right. It's what people who have no control over their miserable lives do regularly. Keep the faith! COYR

lol actually that's pretty spot on tho!
  • Mid table mediocrity on a shoestring......Powell out. ;)

Reamsofverse still spouting rivers of shite along with his lap dogs. What a miserable existence not to be cock-a-hoop after today's glory...
  • bet there isn't a person on here though that thought bringing Kerkar on wasn't a bit bizarre.
  • bet there isn't a person on here though that thought bringing Kerkar on wasn't a bit bizarre.

Fuller I presume was not fully fit and CP presumably preferred to shore up the midfield rather than replace like with like.

  • And we conceded so it worked well didn't it ;-)

then if you are going to shore up midfield you would bring on either Gower or Stephens, both of whom are actually midfielders, where Kerkar is more of a wide man.

    bizarre.
  • Not bizarre to me.

Thought he bought on Kerkar on the left side of midfield to give us a fresh pair of legs on the left as this was where most of their attacks were coming, and moved Harriott up front to give us some pace up front. Sound to the point of inspired thinking in my view. Unless you just hate Kerkar of course. Thought he did well actually.

I also don't think the change cost the goal. A missed handball, a lucky deflection, and no one picking up the three players on the far post was the blame for that!

    Then bought on Obika.

    SCP knows best.

Avoid relegation = good season, mid table = great season, anything more = CP manager of the year.
  • He made a sub. It wasn't obvious why he chose to put him on. He made another sub. We won. Enjoy it rather than constantly trying to find the negative all the time. Even the most successful managers make strange substitutions that don't always work.
  • just didn't see the point of it. Fuller off and Obika on yes but why bother with Kerkar at all. Just my opinion. I am allowed one I think.

Powell has done an impressive job with the resources he has. What I think we need to see from him to become a true Charlton great manager is a more reactive approach during the game.

He has to stop the players sitting back and allowing opponents to play too high up the pitch when they are desperate. We need to have the mentality -'lets exploit them being more open and create more chances'. Sometimes it can backfire- but it will get you more points than sitting back does over the course of a season- especially when you were previously on top in the match. Taking off a striker doesn't do this. If he can sniff a goal, he needs to make a change then and there, not wait for a goal to be conceeded.

These are my only criticisms, I really think he is the best man we could have in charge.

Agree with all of that , i have to keep reminding myself , this is only his first season as a manager at Championship level , if he's given the tools to do the job , and keep improving the squad , his confidence and decision making will improve , he's got to feel that the players he's got playing , will not let him down.

I was wondering why Gower wasn't playing ( does anyone know?) and then i thought well if him coming to the club can only be a good thing for Dale Stephens who is still learning the game , as i'm sure Dale has aspirations to play in the Premier League , but he needs to be more consistant.

  • You have to laugh.

We win a game we dominated and it's all CP "got lucky", "got out of jail", etc.

We draw or lose a game we dominated and he's got "no plan B", or, "He can't make substitutions" - never that "he got unlucky".

Oh well. I spose as relegation isn't on the cards - and in my book it never has been - people have to find something to worry or moan about.
  • Off it you are spot on but some like it more when we lose dont ruin their weekend like scp
    Did yesterday
  • I still get excited when we win.I don't care how we do it.Surely if you are a real Charlton supporter you want them to win. Some people seem to find it impossible to say anything positive about Powell. They seem to not like Charlton winning because it goes against their own agenda.Constructive criticism of Powell and his tactics are healthy and I thought he made a mistake by bringing on Kerkar. But not being balanced in giving Powell praise when he has galvanised the team or made a decision that has got us a point or a win is one eyed and prejudiced. Some people's egos are so big that they will never admit when they are wrong.
  • That's because they are never wrong dickplumb.

Someone said on here yesterday I think. It's easy to be negative. You can rant and moan and then when things go right you say that it's only because he's started doing the things you said he should be doing all along. Or if it goes wrong you can say you were right all along.

Luckily we're only talking about a few loons here and there (mostly there). And quite a lot of them don't even go to games!
  • Managing is not like programming a computer where you get it right or you get it wrong. Maybe, he did get lucky yesterday, but he might have been unlucky in other games. I think you judge a manager over a decent length of time - not on the odd game. So far, if you look at the facts, he has done well since he was appointed. One of his greatest assets he has is understanding the fact that to have a good team you need the right individuals. The players that have played for Powell are significantly more committed than most of the ones that wore the red shirt in the previous few years.
  • Judging by the lack of enthusiasm in the cheers when Kerkar came on most of us thought it was a strange substitution. What do we know eh!
