So the conclusion of the thread seems to be 'look I have to bite my lip and be nice to black people, so let me carry on being a homophobic, cause where's the fun'?

    Looks that way.

I don't want to be condescending, but I am genuinely supprised at the number of fans thinking singing these songs is acceptable.
Because it has been acceptable for the best part of 60 years, football used to be a game for the working man to let off a bit of steam, that was until the PC brigade starting sticking their noses in.

Brighton fans often sign "you dirty northern bastards" at us, I have 2 parents and roots in Yorkshire but I laugh when they sing it as do most Brighton fans when taunted about being gay.
  • Some People say such gay things on here.
  • Sing if you're glad to be gay
  • There's a line between offensive and acceptable. We can see you holding hands is on one side and songs about AIDs are on the other. There isn't a line when it comes to race.
  • Im still waiting on these pc freedom fighters to tell us all what is homophobic about singing "we can see you holding hands" and Does your bf know your here"
  • Sing what you like within the boundaries of law and your fine if you don't you know that when you get nicked or ejected you can't moan

In any ground up and down the country if you wanna sing it then do if you get a smack in the mouth for singing it then you know why

    No big deal really

    Good shout ForD

Its banter, I'm a slap head, I couldn't give a toss if people called me baldy or whatever.

There used to be an expression 'sticks and stones etc'

Where there is a genuine case of homophobia, and someone is getting persecuted for their sexual orientation then of course it is wrong.

There will always be someone who finds something offensive, and these people seem to have cultivated a big voice.
To the 'I find that offensive' brigade, I dont give a toss!
  • And me greenie its a world gone fooking mad

You should not have to put up with this from your guests Mike. Don't invite them back next year.

No because that's not what I do with mates.i occasionally give them hugs, have been known a cheeky kiss on the cheek. Ive seen blokes holding hands and I don't bat an eyelid. Whats your point? Now please tell me what's homophobic about it?

I was simply pointy out that we live in a completely fooked up society where most men feel unable to show any physical affection or physical contact with each other through fear of homophobic reactions, chants like 'we can see you holding hands' funny banter or not supports this neurotic behaviour.
  • I don't fear homophobic reactions as the reason I don't hold my mate males hand lol, it's just not natural in the same way it'ss not natural for me to hold my female mates hand walking down the street. I don't see how singing about holding hands supports this sort of behavior either? I'm really stumped to how people can walk down the street and not be offended by the next door neighbours cat if they think thats homophobic.

I was sitting with the Brighton fans and didn't hear any homophobic chants! Those that sang them couldn't have been that high in numbers or very loud. Which begs the question, what is the point? Maybe best they just shut up.
