5 -6 Years to get out of this division

According to The Express today, SCP has said that whilst the plan is to get out of the Championship in 2 / 3 years, it could take 5 / 6 years to get out of this division. Lets hope he doesn't achieve it this year......in the wrong direction!

  • I think the plan ought to be 1-2 years. You can't have a 5 year plan to get out of a division when you think about it. Too much can happen in that time.
  • As long as we're always moving forwards I wouldn't mind how long it took.

Can't afford any more 'consolidation' years, in the Championship there's a fine line between midtable and relegation.
  • We could be out of it in May if we don't watch out.
  • I will take 5-6 years if offered right now. As long as its not out via league One.
  • So there is a plan ?
  • Took Curbs 7 seasons , so to better that would be good , takes the heat off him , and hopefully makes the supporters a bit more realistic. If we had stormed the division this season , and we'd struggled in the Prem , everyone would have the hump , Powell would probably get the chop like Adkins , hope our owners are a bit more understanding.
  • As long as its up not down i'm happy
  • Without A HUGE cash injection on all three of the ground, the pitch and most importantly the team, a lot longer than 5 years I am loath to predict

I would happily take mid table obscurity in this league for the next 5 years for now, never mind worrying about going up. Dont run before you can walk etc!
  • Ipswich have been in this league 11 years.

  • Maybe the 5-6 years takes into account the randomness of the seasons. I mean you could be in the play-offs every year for 6 seasons and have one bad game out of three and fail to go up.

I'm encouraged that they are talking about having a plan that runs for 5 seasons to be honest as the impression I get is that we go up this season or next or we implode!
  • The statement implies steady investment and team building. The current losses are at 8 million per year. Add investment in the squad and over the next five seasons a conservative guess at our losses would be 40 million.
  • Article also states that CP was a player coach working with ID, LR, AP and PP before being asked by the board to take charge. Not sure that is correct.

he was with alan pardew i believe, but not the others.

  • The actual wording is When the club lost it top flight status he returned as a player coach. that rules out ID, LR.
  • I struggle to comprehend the direction/plan.

I was wondering how long Palace have been in the Championship...

Didn't they "flirt" with relegation a couple of seasons ago ?

  • I struggle to comprehend the direction/plan.

It's based on softly softly rather than balls-to-the-wall-throwing-money-at-it

I'm happy to consolidate this year
    And next
Flirt with the play-offs and progress from there

The silly thing is - our away form is promotion form so it shows we are no mugs. Maybe we should look a little bloser to home and make it hostile for the opponents as opposed to our own players

Whatever happened to the support we gave the lads when we were 2-0 down against Cardiff? More of that please.

It's a symbiotic thing. The players fed off the crowd but the crowd fed off the players. Well, off JJ really (at first).

  • Brighton had a 5 year plan to get out of L1 and into the Prem.
You can't say they have been massive spenders, yet they are on target.

    Good well run club, Brighton.

And many of their fans will tell you they took their inspiration from us....
  • Like someone pointed out before, it took seven years for Curbs to get us into the Premier League. Powell has shown last year what he can achieve as the manager of our club and as long as he's allowed to continue his work here (with enough funding to improve the squad because he's not a miracle worker), we will continue to be upwardly mobile.

That's my take on it at least. :-)

Jeez - is that right - they've spent a pretty large wedge too.

  • It will take a while admittedly but PLEASE buy a few packets of grass seed in the summer TJ...
  • needs to be 3 or less please - i have a bet on it! Not as confident now as i was 12 months ago when i made it.

So there is a plan ?

CP's 5 year plan. That is when his contract ends isn't it? In 5 years.

  • People underestimate the power of the new TV deal coming into the Premiership from next season. The gap is set to grow much bigger from tier 1 to tier 2.
  • In which of the five years are we planning on giving Smallwall a good spanking?
  • 5-6 at this level would be class.
