Support for the club doesn't necessarily imply approval for the regime who are running it or acceptance of the small number of fools who let the club down with their behaviour. Someday, possible sooner rather than later, these people will be gone and who knows what we will get then. But if you've been through the Selhurst/Upton Park days, you'll know how good it can feel that you kept the faith during those times. Some of my best memories are the times I've shared with special people following our great club. So long as I can afford to follow Charlton, I will always do so. I still love going to The Valley, I always get that buzz walking down Floyd Road to the ground and I believe that will always be the case, whatever league we may find ourselves in.
Been watching Charlton since late 1950's. Left it until 1986 to get season ticket (first time I could afford one). Just about to renew season ticket. I do get a bit fed up with the home games, but would never support any other team. Someone quite a way to the right of us had a verbal altercation with Danny Haynes, totally unnecessary, no one has a bad game on purpose. for Christ's sake support the team, not heckle them. I hope the loyal fans really get behind the boys for the Bolton game, as many have said on here, lets get the same atmosphere as at the Cardiff game. Things can only get better!

Being a long distance supporter for many years I can understand people's frustrations at some of the poor recent displays. But we should not forget that we are in a different league from last seasons triumphs, something we all took huge pride and pleasure in. The fact that we have very little finances to invest I suspect is similar to 90% of the other clubs in the league and there are plenty who would give their right arm to swap places with a historic club like ours with great facilities (maybe not the pitch right now). I've been watching Charlton for the best part of 40 years and still have the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as The Red Red Robin plays out and to be honest I never expect us to win, it's a huge bonus when we do. And as has been said on here, for me it's not all about the game it's about the day, the beer, the banter and the unity. After a round trip of 200 miles and £200 lighter I would still happily hear the ref blow the whistle after 5 minutes if we ever go one goal ahead and go home with a huge smile. Most of us know little about glory days following Charlton but the fact that we are still here there must be something that keeps us passionate. Stick with it and we will all be smiling again, hopefully against Bolton :-)
I will buy a s/t next season in the unquenchable hope that the style and quality might improve a bit. But I doubt I shall bother with the remaining four matches this season.
I'm sure this will be called a lack of ''commitment''. But I don't go to make the players feel loved. I don't go so I can sing a song to let CP know what a good bloke he is.
I go to enjoy myself.
It isn't enjoyable at the moment. It's frustrating, infuriating and depressing. That's when one can summon enough passion to feel infuriated, frustrated or even depressed. Mostly the football is too turgid and boring even for that.
So I shall spend Saturday afternoons playing with my one year old grandson, because he brings me joy.
Selfish. Disloyal. Not proper Charlton. Whatever.
But I'm not a masochist and if it's no fun, I'm not going to put myself through it.
Looks like Dr kish has had enough too. How many more fans are going to give up their season tickets. Cant blame them though the football that has been dished up at home has been nothing short of shocking.
Don't think I'll be renewing - haven't enjoyed this season at all. Even enjoyed the relegation season under Pards/Parky more. V depressing atmosphere at the Valley these days.

Whilst I understand all too well the frustration with the poor home form and indeed feel it myself I do fear that there is a danger Chris Powell could get caught in the crossfire of all this discontent and that, in my opinion, would be catastrophic for the future of our club.
It really is catch 22.
I got slagged off on here for saying on a thread that SCP would be sacked on 9 April if season ticket sales were bad.
I have seen 2 victorys all season, that's all. Saying that the way it has worked out with military commitments I haven't seen us win at home all season even though I have gone to the majority of the games I physically could get too, home or away. Buying my season ticket next season though as the club I love and always will needs my support and all the fan bases support get behind the club, the team and the manager! Not walk away, that's the worse thing a fan could do right now.
I first bought a season ticket when we got promoted to the Premiership in 1998 as i wanted to make sure i had a 'regular fixed seat' i got fed up of going for whatever was available be it East Stand , or North stand.
At the time i was working alternate weekends and couldn't make a lot of the games because i was working, i used to hate the fact that i would miss 'big games' because i was working.
Having had a season ticket in the North and then being 'promoted' to the WestBlanket & flask Stand when i turned 30 or so because i wanted to have a better view i would go without other things so i could afford to have my season ticket.
Yes , crap has been served up at times ( a lot of times) and it has not been great to watch , but seasons like last season keep me going in the hope that one day we can fight to get to the top table and fight again.
Yes i may be deluded , i can understand people saying they want to not go any more because they can't afford it , or they just don't enjoy how we are playing.
But having had 5 years of having a season ticket and yet not being able to go to all the games because i was working , it means i don't take going to Charlton for granted , and i love going with my family , even if the eventual outcome is not a happy one.
I just wish the board would issue a statement of 'Summer intent' whether funds will be available , whether we will have to sell before we can buy , or whether we can expect 'more of the same' in which case i fear the threat of relegation next season.
I just don't know where we are going as a club, that is why i am gutted that Chris Powell is not going to be at the Bromley Addicks meeting on Thursday evening.
I'm sure his reasons are sincere and honest , but he makes the effort every week to do Press interviews ( which is his job) surely the same can be said of attending a supporters meeting?
Unless of course he knows his tenure will not be for very much longer , maybe he doesn't want to have to defend the actions of the board , maybe the board don't want him engaging with supporters , would just like the truth, rather than being taken for granted , and feeling alienated.
I 'speak as i find' , so sorry if i've offended anyone.
I like most live for the buzz that seeing a win creates for the rest of the weekend (or boost through mid-week). When we lose it really puts me on a downer. Although i only really go to away games (only been to Peterborough at home and saw a win, so sorry to those that have gone to every one) i don't expect us to win. In my 35 years following Charlton its been mostly depressing results against the teams i'd love us to beat, but when the true gems come around, i live off them. I talk endlessly to my dad about the games we've been to. You see for me and my dad, even when we don't have much to talk about, we've always had our passion for Charlton. We meet up, get in the car and talk football, watch the game, and talk more football on the way home. It maybe boring and pointless to a lot of people, but to me it's how i communicate with my dad. It's more like we go to church together, and now we bring my daughter. It's family time. I'm bringing father-in-law to Barnsley game. It'll be his first Charlton game as he lives in Sweden, and i'm so proud to bring him to see my team. The result doesn't really matter, it's about Charlton.

This.
A lot of it for me is about spending time with my Dad. Same seats at The Valley for about 19 seasons now.
I don't think I could ever give up on going to Charlton regularly, unless it was a situation where I simply couldn't do it. The results will never deter me.
On his day on, I hope Martin Protheroe doesn't see this http://www.greenthumb.co.uk or Colin Powell could be the next link with the past shown the shed door.
Well here are two games next season I will be avoiding:
1. Any prospective FA Cup 3rd round home tie. If I want to see the reserves, I'll go to a reserves fixture. 2. Any home tie against Millwall where there is no guarantee that the club and police won't pull the same trick again.
Will probably go to most of the home games and a good few away days, despite everything. This season can't finish quickly enough.
Father and son posts make good reading. My boy is 12 and been going with me since he was 6 (we live 50 miles away). He is proud to be the only Charlton supporter in his school and has studied our history and has a big picture of Clive Mendonca on his wall. i want to continue that bond we have and only hope there are better seasons ahead.

Too right. Despite everything, we keep going. My little boy is 6 and he's Charlton mad - no Arsenal or Man Utd for him. Drew me a picture of Johnny Jackson on my Father's Day card. I just hope he forgives me when he's older...
Would be interested to know how many S/T's we've sold so far compared to the same time over the last few years. If only we knew someone who was a "friendly face" and worked at the club.

You dont have to live 50 miles away to have that my boy is 12 goes to school in bexleyheath its full of bloody millwall supporters.
I've been just as frustrated as an anyone about the home form this season and after Saturday I was seriously thinking of picking my games next year. Since then I have thought long and hard and realise like most things in football our form at home and our magnificent away form are transient. It's just as likely to be the other way round next year or much better or much worse. I've decided that's why I go in the first place. I will be renewing in the certainty that next year we will still be Charlton Athletic and we will still have good days and generally more bad days and regardless CL will still find cause to moan. COYR
I'm giving up my ticket season but not because i want to but because i have to as going to be a dad in a few weeks and with balancing work too i won't have the time to commit to every home game as i have done for the last 25 years.
No i have not enjoyed the football a lot this year or previous years. Lets face it last year was enjoyable because we went up, but the football was not great towards to the end. Some games this year yes i have enjoyed but not all and have gone home at the end of the match thinking "you know what when my son/daughter arrives why would i give that time up for Charlton". But you know what i will miss it. I hope to still go to the odd game and can't wait for the day i take my son/daughter and his/her grandad to a match and watch the same look on their face as when i saw my first live game (we lost but the atmophere was incredible and i loved every minute of it).
We are on a rebuilding road thats for sure and its an unknown path, but thats Charlton for you. Some of our players need to look at themselves and step up, but on paper we are a good team. Confidence is poor, luck is not with us, tactics not always agreeable and i still want Powell to be the best manager since Curbs. A little investment and a bit more clinical play and gusto from the players and i think we will be fine. I'll still come on here to see what people think of the players, performances, rumours, etc and will still do Valley Gold.
I agree about family time at the valley except for us its mother and daughter time. we go in the cafe have a fry up or go in the liberal club and then sit through the game, yes sometimes its a boring game and i dont expect us to win but you never know what u will see

That is so true! My wife always says that to me when I am moaning on a Sunday night.
