Please ask if they are related to Joe Merryweather or if they have a Charlton connection.
Could be doing a big favour in helping research the history of the club.
I searched this on Findmypast.
If I've found the right bloke he was born in 1882 and died in 1977. His wife's maiden name was NEWBERY and they had one son, Joseph C, who was born in 1922 and died in 2002. His wife's maiden name was KENNEDY and they had a son, Gary, born in 1958.
Perhaps there could be a link with these other names?
1) Do you have any way of contacting Richard Redden?
I only knew the name Joe Merryweather because of his book "The History of Charlton Valley of Tears Valley of Joy."
After posting last night I dug out my copy and found this: ....." The last surviving member of the original committee of 1905 was Joe Merryweather, who died in 1977 at the age of 95. His son, also Joe, keeps up the tradition of support and is a match-day steward at Selhurst Park.".....
Also: ...."I would like to thank the many others who helped me at stages in the book: Joe Merryweather, son of an original committee member, who provided valuable information on the pre-World War One period;".....
The above shows that I found the right family and maybe Richard knows how to contact them?
Just a thought.
2) I only searched for the direct line. There are (were) however a number of other MERRYWEATHERS born in the Woolwich and Greenwich area, possibly brothers and sisters of the original Joe, or his father, and their descendants.
Could there still be other MERRYWEATHERS in the area who might be able to contact Joe's line?
3) Not directly relevant but something I'm curious about.
Merryweather used to be a well known manufacturer of fire engines. My late father was in the London Fire Brigade and I remember as a youngster seeing a Merryweather "Green Goddess" at "E" division headquarters in Eaglesfield Road. The fire station has now been converted to residential flats I believe.
Any connection between the "Charlton" Merryweathers and the "fire engine" Merryweathers?
I have been in touch with Richard via Ian Wallis. it was Ian who put Richard in touch with Joe Merryweather but we don't have a current contact for his family.
The Merryweather fire engine factory was in Greenwich so it is quite possible that there was a connection.
As it is an unusual name we're hoping Gary or some other family member will be easy to trace. Nothing on Facebook I can see.
SE7toSG3 and I have a little history project underway and this could be a big part of opening up some of the Club's early days.
Its amazing what can be done with an internet connection, a good search engine and a bit of nous. I reckon the only place left that is safe to let your hair down, have a laugh and go undetected is on a moving train........oh hang on a minute ;-)
You just start to trust people then they throw it back in your face.
Just as long as it doesn't turn into a spiteful spat with victims posting "shaming" pictures and videos of the video bullies as revenge while others look on laughing.
I've been looking at a book called The Woolwich Story and it talks about local newspapers.
The relatively obvious Kentish Independent, Kentish Mercury and Eltham Times are all mentioned but there is also reference to "The Woolwich Football Flash," which lasted for around a year from 1906, and "The Pioneer" which started in 1904.
The book (which dates from 1971) says that there are library copies of these old papers. If the library copies still survive then they might help with researching the history of the early years of the Club.
Ignore if no use or teaching grandmother to suck eggs!

Then It is the Gary Merryweather we'd like to speak to, if possible.
Anyone know him or able to give us a lead?

I hope you get somewhere with this. Good luck!

Any other info/help welcome.
I don't have a subscription to this so cannot investigate further.
Someone else might be able to help perhaps?
Perhaps one or more of them are on facebook and can lead you to Gary.
This might help. Worth a phone call or e mail anyway.

Len "Columbo" Glover on the case : - )
I have to say that guest house doesn't look bad for a quiet short break.
I did apologise for contacting him in this way and if it wasn't him.
No shame in asking, he can only say, "no, not me".
:-)
He's checking to see what, if any, papers he has related to Charlton.
Thanks Len.
Let's hope he has some information to help you both with the project.

SG3 is going to the newspaper library at Colindale so he'll have a peek if he can.
Keep the leads coming Len or anyone.
