Thing is ME14 although you don't think they add to the atmosphere, i bet a lot more people on this thread do. And i bet an even greater amount of people(myself included) just don't give a monkeys whether there are flares or not.
No wonder we get the 'anorak' or 'trainspotter' tags. By all means carry on living life with your 'holier than thou' attitude, but lets not bother making stories out of nothing.
Whether you think they add to the atmosphere or not, they're illegal, so anyone setting them off can expect to pay the penalty. I'd far rather Charlton had those tags than the thuggy tag that clubs like Millwall have.

id rather we didnt have those tags tbh ...plus I dont think letting off a flare makes the fans thugs either

The fact is we really are called the "anoraks" and "trainspotters" regularly and absolutely nobody on this planet outside of ME14 is calling us "thuggy".
I leave it to the police to deal with the crimes whilst I enjoy myself...
We must be getting a rep if the Neapolitans think "those Charlton fans are absolutely crazy". Have to say I loved the atmosphere in the stadium on Saturday!
Anyone thinking that it adds to the atmosphere (no pun intended) of a football match is beyond me.
depends what kind of atmosphere you like doesn't it ?
i use smoke at work to set off stage lighting, its not illegal for me to do so and it adds a huge amount of atmosphere to an event ...it also adds to the atmosphere at football ...but its illegal.
whats the difference ...they're both public events
I just don't see why some of you get pleasure from a flare in a stadium and think it adds to the atmosphere. Can't you just enjoy watching a football match? I watch football because I love the game. I enjoy clapping and singing (productive songs that support my team, Charlton) not abuse aimed at people I don't know. I only stand when we score so that I don't spoil the view for anyone else.
Well said. To many that go now the actual football is of secondary importance. They may as well all meet down the local park and gesticulate at each other, swear at each other, set off some flares, chuck park benches around and then smash up the bogs before attacking cars in the car park before going down the pub and a having a laugh about it leaving us that want to watch a football match and get behind the team positively to do so.
You say that, but most of them fans are ones that get behind the team and make alot of noise aswell, not so much the ones that smash the place up, but the ones with flares and smokes and ones that like to exchange gestures with away fans also are ones that make alot of noise

You won't be rushing to a Galatasaray game any time soon then?
Loved the flare and the smoke bomb, well played to those who brought them in. That first half was one of the most enjoyable first halfs of supporting Charlton I can remember. Crowd were excellent and so were the players.
I saw a young lad 15/16 get arrested at norwood junction after the game, didn't see what happened but he didn't look like he could cause much damage, not even sure if he went to the game. But I'm sure it's one of the 10 arrests mentioned in the article even though it probably had nothing to do with charlton or palace

Yeah well done. Thankfully it didn't set fire to some kids clothing or give a fan third degree burns . Not that that matters , because Fiiiish had fun...

How dare I enjoy something you don't, how dare I.
More chance of a bovril going flying when we score and burning a kid, so get rid of all hot drinks aswell! Lock up all PG tips drinkers.

if he read the thread he'd know that it wasn't only you who enjoyed it
ME14...Cannabis is illegal, but you can drink alcohol before the game. Blinding atmosphere, tribal, passionate...just loved the flares. If this kind of behaviour continues I'm going to go to more away matches and give it large with the other thugs.

Last time I checked my Bovril wasn't alight and at 50c .

All the more reason to rid scum like you from our away support.

Ok so why not just watch all your football on TV? Or listen to the radio? - A facetious question I know but you're just completely dismissing fan culture as an irrelevance when in fact it's been inextricably tied to the football match going-experience for generations. For many football fans it is just about watching the game and that's fine. But what separates football from other sports for most is it's unique fan culture, the rivalry, the passion, the excitement, the highs, the lows. Why not sing songs about the opposition fans? As long as they're not taken too far it all adds to the fun e.g the Jeremy Kyle song at Millwall. It would be so boring if everyone just sang to "support the team" (to whom it's all white noise most of the time) - it's not the Superbowl ffs.
99 % of the away support and atmosphere was brilliant on Saturday.

I'm 66, arthritic, have one lung and walk with a stick...now where's those flares?

Would love to see what you're like when you're not trying to dictate our support from behind your keyboard. You're pathetic.
Looking at the Videos (the atmosphere looked decent) the only thing they could get nicked for is impersonating Palace fans cos our lot did exactly what the Palace fans did at the Valley once they scored earlier on in the season Personally I think its good as long as the flare and smoke bomb holders hold on to it and don't lob em When Palace did it there were plenty of Charlton fans slagging it off on here, it was geeky , fake ultras , rubbish etc but when we do it its the nuts I like it whoever does it (as long as there's no risk to anyone and I'm not fully aware if there is if they keep hold of em, if that's possible) and its good for our support to have a bit of a personality for once/twice
Those who thought the the vandalism at the ground and on the way to station, may change there minds when away support restrictions imposd on these games, and maybe others because of recent events.
