Yeah I f**ked that one up going for a stroll past there in my Charlton kit... It was a Friday game though eh? Won't likely be rammed with Nigels on a Sat.

Anyway as an NZer I'm doing the annual Waitangi Day circle line pub crawl from half nine, starting at the Pride Of Paddington. Hope to make it round to Gloucester Rd before getting out to the game. Look for the drunk kiwi in fancy dress...
  • Let's be honest, over the years I've worn colours to Scumhurst and never once had anything worse than a whimper behind me. Drink where you want, it will all be Charlton, we're going to take over the place over.

They'll be too busy getting an escort to their own ground.
Which they pay the police for themselves. (I kid you not).
You're kidding?! How much do they pay the police?!
All clubs pay for policing at their ground don't they ?
This isn't CPFC though SE9. This is a private company. I think it may be the company where the Fanatics donate their money to make the banners etc. (That's just a guess, but it is probably all linked in).

That's incredible, I genuinely hope your mate has got the wrong end of the stick !

As a pasty New Zealander entirely of European decent, I'll spare myself (and Charlton fans, by association) that particular embarrassment!

I think you'll find that we all pay for the police outside stadiums as tax payers.

If you're suggesting anything else then you're a fool, and who ever told you differently is a bigger fool.

Actually, i think you can organise and pay for police escorts. I believe officers can even put their names down for it as they get the over time.

    oh dear...

  • just picturing everyone doing the macarenna all hammered could call it a victory dance...???

THIS, I remember the early KO in 2007 was in a ram packed pub right by the ground, was all Charlton singing and boozing.

Didnt know you could hire out the police.

But in the case of Palace fans hiring out the Met police (not sure if you can hire them?) that's just rubbish.

Maestro, I know nothing about how the police operate at football matches and what the situation is with regard to police escorts etc. I'm only going on what I have been told by a Sergeant at Bromley Police Station (who happens to be a friend that I trust).

He knows very little about football(in fact he says he's a Liverpool fan despite being from Sidcup and never even been to Liverpool in his life), apart from the work he and his colleagues do at various football matches.

The conversation came up at the weekend when he asked me what I was doing this weekend. I told him I was going to Surrey (joke) to watch Palace v Charlton when he told me about the situation with this so called group (which is a apparently a legitimate company) paying for this 'special' escort.

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just going on what he has told me. He would have no reason to make it up as I doubt he gives two hoots about Palace or Charlton.
  • This is comedy gold they pay for a escort to their own ground
  • Is this so the Palace fans can say we would have had you but the police stopped us.

  • God that is absolutely pathetic... In Italy it's called a 'trasferta' whereby away fans (many of whom will be actual ultras) are kettled when entering the area near the ground, for both their protection and that of the locals. Surrounded by police, they often make a show of it whereby they announce their arrival at the stadium or its locality.

This will be 10 or so twats who've watched too much Danny Dyer singing that wanky song they've stolen, on repeat.
  • Class.

Paying for the ob to escort you to your OWN ground. Only Palace!
  • Everything about the club is embarrassing. Fake ultras, cheerleaders, constant 'South London' marketing which actually gets them nowhere.

I hear that Whoopi Goldberg will be at the front of the escort leading songs from Sister Act.

    Pathetic club in every sense.
  • I'll do a haka with police protection.

Well I think we've established that this Sargent is a liar then.

    You can tell him that.

  • You are a plank

Who was that millwall idiot on here a couple of weeks ago: rodney ? It's like groundhog day.

Imagine what it would be like if either club gave a shit about us !

ok, I'll tell him. Why does this bother you so much anyway?
  • Because its true no doubt
  • So is there anywhere in particular in the vicinity of the ground that our fans are going to be drinking?
