  • Oh and ME14 addick, I am sorry to hear about your other halfs quest for employment, but if he can't get a job after 10 years, then I would question my ability to do the job in the first place.
Sometimes in engineering (whatever discipline) it requires moving with latest innovation.
Sorry to be so hard, but for me to say "it will get better soon" would not be me being honest.
  • A lot of jealousy because they are a well organised unit.
I bet those that are condoning them would love to be as organised, thereby getting what they consider a fair wage.
After what we read about some peoples wages, you go into one over a train driver earning 45k?
    Good luck to them.

    With you on this one.
If driving a train is such a doddle for the money why moan about it? Go and get a job doing it
Plenty of people earn 45k and some (not me). if dont earn good money and money is your goal in life there are usually a couple of reasons why.
  • Can't wait for the driverless trains then these greedy tube drivers can piss off down the job centre to pick up there job seekers allowance.
  • Thing is when the driverless trains come in and the drivers are on the dole good old marxist Bob will be siting on a beach somewhere with people waiting on his every whim getting his £100K a year pension.Reflecting on how he brought down another elected Government (NOT)

POWER TO THE PEOPLE !! (as long as they keep paying)

It is pretty difficult to get a job as a Tube Driver.
They do not sdvertise and mainly recruit in-house - so unless you fancy working on the platforms for 5 years putting copies of Metro into bin bags for minimum wage, until you qualify to be able to apply for one of the few jobs available then you dont have much chance.

Collecting rubbish wont give you an edge on your want to be train driving CV.
Many on here think being a simpleton driven by greed is the qualification to train driving, its not.

Really? I'll trade in the job I studied for years to be able to do and continue to study for day in day out, working 60 hour weeks, never really going on holiday without constantly being in touch with the mothership, having the stress of knowing that any mistake could get me fired, and knowing that my company's very existence depends upon me continuing to produce and maintain systems that work uninterrupted 24x7x365 for the life of a tube driver. 'Working' 8 hours a day, for 250 days of the year, 'earning' 48 grand a year for flicking a switch between stop & go, opening and closing doors and saying 'mind the gap' every now and then. Where do I sign up?

Oh - wait a minute - that's right - you can't fucking well sign up because the only way to get a job as a tube driver is to work for what amounts to pretty much fuck all doing pretty much one of the worst jobs on Earth for donkeys' years before getting a shot at it (unless you know someone's brother/sister/dad/uncle/insert-nepotistic-relationship-here). If the job of a tube driver was ever advertised to the outside world (and by that I mean actually 'advertised', not put up on a noticeboard for two hours of one Sunday afternoon under the stairs of a disused railway shed somewhere between North Weald and Blake Hall) there would be more people queueing up than there would for a free go on Dita Von Teese.

Thieving, shiftless, skilless chancers, the lot of 'em.
  • I'm not questioning the drivers skill etc, it's the bit where they hold other people to ransom for their services that I'm struggling with. Down with the Unions!

Just wondered if people would agree with this strike or not.

It really all depends ck. Nowhere in that story does it mention their current pay, hours, opportunities, benefits etc. As I mentioned before, I don't agree with the driver's strike, but I know there are many others who don't get the pay package that they do.
  • These 'driverless' tube trains won't start arriving until at least 2020, and would still need DLR style train captains, who could presumably still go on strike...
