The mystery of the Richard Cawley, the South London Press and the missing Charlton reports

There is a situation between Slater and the SLP, as I expect Henry knows. But I think it should probably be left to them to explain or not as they see fit. Kevin Nolan is potentially caught in the crossfire, as he writes for the SLP.

So who hasn't Slater got a "situation with", seems an utter Koc!

  • I heard Cawley bopped Slater over the head in Spain earlier this year.......
  • So 20 years back at the valley. A real opportunity to celebrate and show the club's history. It appears like the SLP has had a problem with someone in the hierarchy at the valley. If the SLP lets this become the story, rather than showing the history, that that will be extremely disappointing.

What about the Charlton supporters, who may buy the SLP or a range of the papers the group are involved with ? All that lost due to a personal spat ?

Been going on for a fortnight, so I don't think you can accuse the SLP of making trouble. They've said nothing. They also ran a double-page BTTV spread on Friday, while the Shopper and the remnant of the Kentish Times had nothing AFAIK.
  • To be fair I've never liked the SLP anyway, so I can't blame Slater for that.
  • Oh how i wish we still had the Kentish Independent or The Mercury or maybe i'm looking back with rose tinted glasses ?

Never really though of the SLP as a Charlton paper, would love to know if anyone really buys it ?

I go into WH Smith's and read it until someone asks me to put it down or buy it
  • SLP is a wall paper, I go for the Mercury myself
  • The SLP has always been a Millwall paper, but in the fairness to them, the coverage on Charlton is always substantial, and at least they did a 2 page on the 20 year anniversary, unlike some other local papers.

  • Fair point shirty5, fair point.

I thought Nolan stopped writing for the SLP a while ago and was only to be found at the Greenwich Times these days?

That was the Mercury. The SLP use him when Richard Cawley is at Palace.
  • Interesting. So do we know if it was Nolan or Cawley at the game at the weekend?

Noticeable that there are reports on the weekend's games for Palace and Millwall but nothing on Charlton.

And on Friday no tweets from Chris Powell's press conference.

Have they been banned for running the Koc story as some speculated on the "Slater in the Programme" thread?

    And if so why?

    Slater v Nolan could be interesting . . .

Cawley is always at Palace, they're having a big love-in at the moment

  • Any CAFC news in the SLP today ?
  • Not seen a write up on here from Grumpy in a while either.
  • 1 page match report 50p for a very thin effort
  • Kevin Nolan has his report on the greenwich.co.uk site.

  • Again, no tweets re: the Bolton game from Cawley while online the only mention of the game is via comments from the Bolton Assistant manager.

    http://www.slp.co.uk/Sport.cfm?id=43615&headline=Lennie Lawrence: Charlton will consolidate
  • The plot thickens.

Don't miss next week's riveting episode .....same place, same channel.
  • If Cawley supports Fulham why do his tweets make it sound like he is a Palace fan?
  • Read his tweets from last night. He talks about palARSE because they are currently the big noise in South London (not for much longer), he is definitely a Fulham fan though.
  • Basically Cawley is close to a guy who is close to palace...hence he knows a lot more and gets free tickets to games...SIMPLES.
  • If Cawley supports Fulham why do his tweets make it sound like he is a Palace fan?

    This
  • Nothing on Charlton in today’s South London Press. Very unusual for that to happen
  • Intrigued to know what the c*ck story was??

We were a different club then.
  • No Rich Cawley bylines, the sport all comes from his stand-in Edmund Brack. Usually that doesn't stop them doing a Charlton story, though. Hopefully all is okay with Rich.
