Our midfield

  • Teams are always best when the total exceeds the sum of its parts. I actually feel that our midfield often performs to less than the sum of its parts. It wasn't good last year it hasn't really been improved and it looks worse in this division. If we have ambitions of promotion then we need to address this area as a priority. Posh outplayed our centre last night for long periods. They are not bottom for no reason.

Sorry but to say our midfield "wasn't good last year" is absolute tosh. You cannot win a league with 101 points if the midfield is poor.

Danny Hollands was great at that level, Johnnie Jackson scored goals for fun, Dale Stephens did enough to have Villa knocking on the door and Bradley Pritchard has impressed everyone with how well he adapted in such a short time.

Why we have to be so explicitly negative towards our team even in the most sublime of scenarios, I really will never understand.

Sorry back. Our midfield last season was our weakest part of the team. Even in that record breaking season it was very often second best and was even outplayed. If we had money in the summer we would have strengthened there but we didn't . It was slow and lacking in creativity last season and it is slow now.

personally think thats a little unfair. The problem with our midfield last year was that it was bypassed too often, especially at home.

Don't think that's unfair at all. If the midfield was good enough they'd still be starting now. Hollands is now oi on loan, Green on the bench and Wagstaff not involved at all. Probably play better with only one of Jackson and Stephens in the team as well.
  • Our system - i.e hoof it to Yann, doesn't suit our midfield but that shouldn't blind us to the fact that we got the best out of a limited bunch last year. Frimpong didn't have the best of night's on Tuesday but he oozes class that is way above anything round him. He was better on Saturday when he had Stephens next to him who is the the (potentially) best of our existing bunch. As Scoham says, we are moving on. We would move quicker if we had dosh.

but we're in a different league now Scoham???...the original claim was the midfield '"wasn't good last year''

That midfield was good enough for last year but at times didnt play to its full potential because it was often bypassed.
  • A lot of our opponents this season have had far better midfielders - our strength lies in our defence and attack.
I wish we'd signed Aluko but obviously dosh has been an issue.

Not too keen on signing loan players as they can come with an attitude. I remain unconvinced by Frimpong but he's only had two games and is probably not match fit - assume he's happy to be here?
