  • I agree Jackson should be dropped. He hasn't exactly done anything wrong but he seems off the pace.
  • 12 points off relegation, 5 off the playoffs. 13 points from 15. And people are concerned?

Show me a winger who beats his man 90% of the time, gets great crosses in, and tracks back to cover the full back and I'll point out that hes playing for a top European side on wages more that our whole club. Kerkar is good for us at this level in certain situations, and he's willing if not entirely able to play LB as cover which shows he is keen. Rather have him in there than someone who doesnt care. In his natural LM position he can scare a defender, and he can provide.

Dench plays 2 games and people say he's not up to standard? Please.

You have to compromise in certain areas. Consistency, age, pace... We cant have everything, cause we cant afford it.
  • Thought JJ was one of our better players last night
  • Funny how you lot are talking about dropping Jackson.

Just wondering if anyone knows who our top goalscorer in the league is?

Had it not been for Jackson single handedly pulling us out of the brown stuff against Cardiff then there's a chance we may not be on this little run at all.
  • I really don't understand the love for Green. He's a poor footballer at best.

The only time id drop Jackson is if he needs a rest and that comes from the player themselves.

Jackson is keen to play then theres no current reason for him to be dropped.

Too many people looking for perfection, which is never gonna happen. 13 points out of 15 is a great return. Lets stick with it.
  • Personally thought Jackson was our best midfielder last night but can see this isn't a widely held view. Love Ptitch's attitude but don't think he can cut it in central midfied on a regular basis. Green seems to be doing well coming on late in games and seems to have more impact than starting.
Kerkar is so in and out. Personally not my type of player
Frimpong just had a poor game last night but think he will be a useful asset
  • WILSON WILSON (cast away), where was stephens?
  • Nothing is perfect last night was an ugly win but it was a win. I think we still need some better quaility in midfield for me Frimpong is exactly the player we would like permanently he can tackle, pass and has plenty of pace. JJ had a much better game last night but does tend to give the ball away but overall OK. My main concern is out wide. Pritchard is a great kid with a brilliant engine and attitude but he is no wide player. He doesn't have the pace or delivery of course Green is much better in this aspect but then he is also a bit lazier so you don't get the extra cover Bradley affors the team. Kerkar looks all at sea at the moment I struggle to recall one telling contribution from him last night. One game doesn't make a player good or bad but I think we need somehting a bit better on the left midfield.

Had JJ not been fiddling with his plums on the near post we wouldn't have concded both the early goals either

  • and what about Waggy and Cook, isn't Cook a left sided midfielder?
  • We looked a dfferent team when Green come on last night, had the confidence to give the ball wide and actually believe that our right winger could beat a player, as he did for the 2nd goal!

kerkar is the ONLY midfielder we have capable of beating a man. he is frustrating at times for sure but with haynes up top and kerkar on the wing, teams take a step back, this allows us a chance. lose him, lose the edge.

Really? Didn't do it once tonight.
Green did from the moment he came on.

So the time he go to the byline in the first half and crossed for Jackson, who headed over when he should really have scored, that didn't happen?

The neat interplay with Fuller two or three times on the left didn't happen, the work to set up Green before the 2nd goal didn't happen.

He didn't play that well like most the rest of them but let's not write his contribution out of the history books.

    this
we have 7 to choose from and Kerkar is the best on the left wing... With Fuller out again (& morro suspended) i expect to see 5 in midfield on Saturday for some if not all of the game...
Dench JJ and Stephens works for me

Couple of half decent crosses. Yes.

Some neat passages of interplay. Yes.

But head down, turn full back inside out the way ONLY he can do as the original post suggested. Fraid not.

  • But that just is what he did before getting the cross into Jackson.
  • Frimpong- Defo a starter and just needs to get match fitness and will boss it!
Stephens-Best passer, but can be a bit of a luxury player and doesnt always get stuck in/put the effort in. I think as long as he is by a hardworking defensive midfielder ala Frimpong would be ok
Green- I think is probably our best crosser and can beat a player but is very inconsistent so can be used as a sub
Jackson- Always seems to pop up with a goal, doesnt really give alot more. Maybe im being harsh but i dont think he should start, also he is a bit slow, Good enough if injuries we need him LM or CM but not a starter for me
Pritchard- Should only start in the middle as looks lost on the wing and cant beat the defender, swap with pong if he's unfit or out of form
Kerkar- Looks good to me, doesn't really have many options on the left but if Kerkar is injured, out of form can replace with Jackson
Wilson- When fit should start on the right giving us a good balance on the midfield, would only play at RM

Have i missed any? , looks like we are pretty well covered just we need the right mix , Starting for me should be Wilson, Frimpong, Stephens, Kerkar. When Wilson is back we should see a more balanced midfield, our current problem is Pritchard is more effective in the middle and out on the wing doesnt give us enough width and he cant beat a player. As long as we play the right mix together with people in the right positions eg. pritchard/Jackson then we have a good midfield for this league
  • Thought Jackson played ok last night. Not as good on the ball or as creative as Stephens but what he does offer is runs into the box and support for the front men from midfield. Stephens doesn't do that enough and the gap between our forwards and midfield causes a lot of problems in my opinion when we play Stephens plus another CM to sit. A player who does both is what we need, but there's not one on the books so it's pick your poison until we have a more complete CM. Game last night was calling out for Green and someone to run at them with the formation posh played, but you are never sure what you get with Green, looked good last night when on apart from all the over eager fouls, but too many games he doesn't get at teams and then leaves us exposed when Solly overlaps.
  • If Fuller is not fit for Saturday we need a 5 man midfield with Kermorgant up front. Pritchard Frimpong Stephens Jackson Kerkar .. we are really missing the pace of Wilson

I think this is often forgotten... I think when you look at our midfield options as a whole we have these three areas covered, it's just picking the right mix and making sure there is a balance to the side...a conundrum I can't solve, but then i'm not a manager! There is one person who knows the ins and outs, strengths and weaknesses of all our players...and he is the manager

I'd say it depends on whether Haynes is fit. If he is then I think 4-4-2 with Hulse and Haynes up front would be better. If not, I'd go with your suggestion.

  • Yann and Haynes sounds like a dream up front in the circumstances.

Yann was designed for this sort of game!!!
  • Spot on addickted. All the whining on here and in the stands is really getting me down. Us (and the lot that we play on Saturday) are the division's form teams.
  • We're really divided about Jackson, aren't we? Even regards last night, some think he played well, others that he was chasing shadows. Chrissy obviously feels JJ is a key man. I feel he is good in 4-5-1 but is too easily by-passed in 4-4-2. He's a curious player, we tend to think of out-and-out wingers as 'luxury player', but that applies to JJ - when he contributes, he contributes big. If he was a cricketer, it would be all centuries and ducks...

Pritch is clearly better in the middle - probably also most effective in 4-5-1. So it's Wilson wide right for me, but deffo Green as an impact sub. I'd like to see Pritch/Pong in the middle if we're playing 4-4-2.

    agreed .. IF he's fit !
  • Teams are always best when the total exceeds the sum of its parts. I actually feel that our midfield often performs to less than the sum of its parts. It wasn't good last year it hasn't really been improved and it looks worse in this division. If we have ambitions of promotion then we need to address this area as a priority. Posh outplayed our centre last night for long periods. They are not bottom for no reason.

He has a good delivery, not great and can shoot from range. He doesn't have pace, leaves Solly isolated a lot, gives away needless fouls and his tricks aren't that great in all honesty.

Maybe I should get the brain duster out.
  • Dont

Was Stephens not quite fit and being rested for Millwall?

I thought Jackson had a poor game tonight in centre mid , can maybe play him in a 5 , but people just went past him too easily tonight , sad to see as he was a hero of last season.

We badly need a proper left midfielder in the January window. I don't think Kerkar is worth his place.

    6 assists this season.....

If he finished the season with 15 assists the surely worth his place

I don't think so Swisdom. Kerkar adds very little to the overall team play, messes up more crosses than he gets right, is very inconsistent and he is way too lightweight in the tackle. I agree he can do good things but nowhere near enough from my point of view,
I don't think kerkar really wants to be here. Looks like a decent technical player just giving through the motions!! He is still idolised at rangers
  • We massively lacked pace and creativity in midfield last night - Peterborough were average at best and we struggled to break them down! Unless he was injured\ill I can't see why dale stephens was left on the bench. People suggest rested but we are mid table - can we avoid to rest players for any games. A few droppped points and we get dragged into trouble again.

We were crying out for pace and good balls in from the wings especially with two target men up front!

Kerkar - good touch, but lacks pace and always look back rather than to take on the wing back.
Pritchard - top player, 110% effort but not a winger and again lacks the ability to run at a defender. should be in centre.
Jackson - hard critising your captain, but can't help feel he is only in team because he is captain. Stephens or Pritchard would do much better job in the centre. Lacks pace, no skill and his place in team should be questioned.
Frimpong - apart from fitness has brought a certain quality to midfield - commited to every challenge and lovely distribution.
Stephens - great distribution\creativity should be first on team sheet in midfield!
Green - immature in the challenge but gives pace on the wing and can deliver a killer cross.

My midfield at Millwall would be: green, frimpong, stephens and Pritchard but can't see Powell dropping Jackson for such an important game!
