If its on target, decently aimed and a clean strike, the rest is pot luck, whether it goes in or miss. Dont think stats are best way to choose penalty takers.
If they have been poor shots, then fair enough, might be worth a change. Fuller/Kermit/BWP
Yes (plus Burnley) and been going home and away for 43 years. Next question please.
But that is.
No it isn't, cos I was also there and he doesn't need dropping from the team he played a massive part in our winning goal
Not going to get into a slanging match, but if you look closer at Cardiff, he failed to clear the two corners that led to Cardiff's first two goals and didn't track the scorer of their fourth. We need energy in midfield and he was poor yesterday.
We need to evolve and there are players from last year who cannot step up. Hollands is on his bike, BWP on his way out and JJ will not be a regular this time next year. All made outstanding contributions last season but we continue to move forward. It's called progress
Not saying his opinion isn't relevant but the part where he says he's being going home and away for 43 years wasn't relevant in the conversation.
I'm not going to have a slanging match either but he also scored the two goals that drew us level, rallied the boys together at Bristol when we were looking shakey at 1-0 and as I've said played a massive part in our winning goal at burnley, there's a few games that I've thought, what on earth are you doing JJ but he's got it together and has played a massive part in helping to win our last 3 games and has shown his importance
JJ is a good player when he has time, like dead ball situations and when he has time to put in a pass, like the goal at Burnley. He is poor at defending and in close situations. IMHO he is now a luxury player, if he is part of a 5 man with a good player either side of him then OK but not part of a 4 man midfield. The other thing to consider is his contribution as captain which is difficult for us fans to gauge.
Part of the art of taking a penalty is sending the keeper the wrong way. A keeper can 'read' the takers body language as he steps up. I wasn't at the game yesterday, but there have been a couple of posts on there that say they knew what way he was going to send it.
If he has missed the last 3, then someone else must step up. Stephens would be my bet. I watch him warm up with his shooting pre game, and he does hit the ball so well.
Not sure if posted as a piss-take or not but despite what happened at Leicester, he'd be my choice......
It wasn't a wind-up. I think, despite that play-off miss for Boro, he'd be the player I'd be most confident in firing one in the top corner. Otherwise, I'd say Danny Green but he's not getting the game time.
Lancs exactly what I thought from his run up. I was nervous about him taking it having missed the last two and the way he opened his body it was only going one side. It was a good save low down by the keeper but when you are 100% sure about which way the ball is going you are always going to have a fighting chance of getting down there unless the ball is struck with power.
See above. If I could see from the other end I'm damn sure the goalie could. He signposted it & the only way he could have scored, was if he had lashed it. He didn't. The goalie saved it easy, although he may have moved early & come off his line. Powell needs to have a convo with Jackson & if he ain't convinced, then he needs to change the taker.
Best penalty-taker of recent years has been Graham Alexander, and a big part of his success was his run-up. Almost dead straight, making it much harder for the keeper to guess which way he's going. He could also take them with his instep or the outside of his boot with no discernible change of body shape - really hard for keepers. Don't understand why more takers don't do this. If we get one on Saturday, my money's on Haynes grabbing the ball. On another point, never liked left-footed penalty takers. History is littered with missers in crucial games - Brady, Rix, Pearce, Waddle...er...Michael Gray (thankfully)...
Tend to agree about 'time for a change'. Last year JJ seemed infallible but this year it's a different story. A bit hot and cold nowadays actually. Apart from the Cardiff game he's not really had a good year so far has he. Maybe it's a confidence thing and he just doesn't feel so assured at this level. I must admit I wasn't surprised when he missed on Saturday. I love JJ for what he did last season but sometimes you just have to be realistic. Is JJ good enough for Championship football? I'm not so sure.
I thinl JJ is too slow for the champ. His penalties are also a joke. He has played better in CM but I would play pritchard and stephens there if all fit.
Plus I got haynes at 33/1 to be our top scorer before season started and jacko is in front of him ;-)
This pic shows JJ as he is about to kick the ball, now if you were the goalie which way would you dive?
thats a good pic lanccy and unlike others i think the keepers move forward was minimal before the ball was struck but he deffo moved forward towards it

But have a look at the marks the other Addicks who were there gave Jackson for yesterdays performance.
