Powell plays down bust up

Seems like there was a dust up with Burnley fans

  • Horrible set of fans
  • They didn't like it up 'em, Mr Mainwaring
  • More muggy northerners.
  • Ah thank god, I was dreading opening this thread as I thought it might have been a bust up between stephens and powell
  • The man is just pure class

Shaking the hand and moving on
  • Didn't notice this, but did see Haynes giving the wave and smile to the Burnley fans as he walked towards us. They seemed upset.

So would you if life dealt you the "you are sentenced to live in Burnley" hand!!

  • got a bit and he give a bit back, nout wrong with that and like he said, move on.

"industrial language" well said powell, quality!
  • yeah haynes was giving it to the burnley fans at the end as well
  • I expect no less from Haynes. He strikes me as the type to give a little bit of attitude, from when I saw his first app as a sub last season - I think he gave the goalkeeper some stick after Stephens wonder goal equaliser. (Rochdale? I can't remember)

I absolutely love him. He's quality and seems like he's up for giving it out where deserved. ;)

As for Powell; a true gentleman - but also a man of passion. I remember him having a few words with that tit Megson last season, then kicking his water bottle and getting sent to the stands at the Capital One Cup match in August.

As for Burnley fans - cant comment. I can comment on a Burnley bird I met in a pub a few months back; rough as fook. If she and the muppets on the Burnley fans forum (with their stupid comment about Fuller and Hulse) are anything to go by, then I don't blame either Powell or Haynes.

As long as there are no repurcussions on the gaffer, I'm happy.

yeah definitely after the stephens screamer he was right in the time wasting keepers face giving it large, lot of time for him
  • I remember that. Keeper deserved it for being a twat!
  • 65 years on and they can't get over it .......
We won the cup, we won the cup, e-i-ad-e-o, we won the cup .....
  • You can see why they are good at home- sounded very intimidating. Sir Chris is big enough a character for this to be water off a duck's back. Is it right for me to love a bloke so much?
  • Without doubt there was some racist abuse from two or three old men in the Bob Lord Stand (the equivalent of our West Stand). It seemed most of the players were just ignoring it, but at the end Danny Haynes gave some back at a couple of muppets. SCP was obviously aware of what was going on and at one stage I thought he was going to walk back and confront them.

He didn't look happy at all -and quite rightly so as there appeared to be a very large percentage of ignorant and downright nasty northerners who couldn't take defeat graciously. Got fronted by some balding northern midget who got booted up his arse by another Burnley fan before I could understand what he was saying.

It really is still like the 1970's up there and a real eye opener for a 14 year old lad.
  • @Addickted - how does a 14 year old have any idea what the 70s were like?
    ;o)
  • He's seen my flares and beetle crushers.

Cause he's now been to Burnley.:-)

  • as CP walked from the dug out across the pitch he was in deep conversation with a guy in a yellow jacket who I assume was a steward. I wondered why this was and guess it was the aftermath of the verbals. Haynes deliberately went over to the Burnley stand and had some verbals before continuing on to receive our applause, yes he has attitude but isn't that what we want from a young striker.

Tbf you do have a point :)

  • If Powell was less of a gentleman, I suspect he could've made a big deal out of it. The Burnley fans are lucky - try that with Chelsea and all hell will break loose.
  • Expect they'll still be complaining on Monday morning at t'mill tha nooz.
  • If the manager has not mentioned racist abuse and nor has Danny Haynes unless I am wrong and have missed the reports ,

As SCP is a former chairman of the PFA I would expect him to highlight the issue to the relevant people as it is imperative in this day and age we get rid of it

It's dangerous ground to summise that the bust up was anything other than industrial language

Agree with this, the only caveat being that I would expect if there were racial abuse CP would not do a Chelsea but raise it quietly with the appropriate parties.
  • He could have been subject to abuse- non racial. Looks like it is best forgotten if Sir Chris doesn't wish to pursue.
  • It was racist abuse - of that I've no doubt.

My boy heard it and was fuming.

DH's reaction to it speaks volumes.
  • Maybe your boy needs to make a complaint to the club - that is unacceptable.

    Or the black lawyers association

  • He strode through the Burnley fans after the game head held high with his kit on.

"I'm not going to be intimidated by this bunch of Northern nobodies"

Sometimes, they make you feel so proud.
  • I don't doubt what you say you heard or what your boy heard

However I would be disappointed and surprised that if Danny and SCP had heard the abuse in the manor that you did that they chose not to make it public

As the only way to get rid is to publicly name and shame these people as they have no place in football
