Perfect exit

edited November 2012 in General Charlton
Today was Wendy Perfect's last day working for the football club after eight and a bit years, but brings to an end 21 years of running coaches for Charlton supporters as a volunteer, as a paid organiser for CASC and latterly as a member of staff.

Wendy is a good friend of mine, so I am biased, but I know the care and attention she has put into that role and the extent to which she worried that everyone got to the match on time and how concerned she was when things did go wrong. She understood why it mattered because she is a fan, her husband is a fan and her son is a fan.

It would be nice to think that our football club will pay tribute to her on the website or in next Saturday's programme, instead of airbrushing her out of the picture in the way they have Peter Varney, Steve Kavanagh and myself. I'm sure that would be Matt Wright's instinct. But Part-time Prothero has never even had the courtesy to introduce himself to her, so don't rely on it.

Still, as her boss for most of those 21 years, I'll say it for him. Thanks, Wendy. You did us all proud.

  • Nice one Wendy, good luck for the future.

    Cheers
  • I think Wendy did a fantastic job too and I'm sure most fans know of her and her work, it is very sad that it ends in such a way, maybe its just an interlude.

    Thanks Wendy!
  • Thanks Wendy. We're sorry to see you go.
  • Wendy, thank you for all you've done for the fans and the club, good luck for the future.
  • Remember Wendy and Steve taking the nipper - in a pram - to Welling for our reserve games. The most pwoper of pwoper Charlton.

    Best of luck Wendy.
  • good luck to ya wendy, a proper addick whos work im sure was appreciated by all your fellow addicks over the years, be proud of that and all the best.
  • Good luck for the future.

Surely a mention on the OS or Programme is in order.
  • Doesn't this also belong in the "Things that make you feel old" thread? I seem to remember Wendy before she was Mrs. Perfect.

    Well done and thanks!
  • Did she jump, or was she pushed?

    Pushed into jumping.

  • Wonderful servant to the club. Give me one of my favourite childhood experience by going out of her way, as she always did, to make me ball boy as a 15 yr old. Thank you.

Can only echo what you say Rick. I have been lucky enough to know Wendy for 22 years, she has done so much for CAFC and its supporters. Good luck for the future Mrs. P.

    You mean she's not really " Mrs " P yet ?????

Joking aside, it's been a difficult year for Wendy and I'm sure she's looking forward to a better 2013. Let's hope she gets it.

  • Wonderful woman, fantastic work for supporters.

    Wish her the very best.
  • Thanks for everything Wendy...

Wendy is a star, junior addicks will be a sadder place without her. My lad though she was wonderful, lets hope the door may open for her again in the future at some stage, thanks Wendy

Thank you Wendy & good luck in the future.

It's been said before, but I genuinely don't know how the club can replace the likes of Airman and Wendy.

  • Wendy, best wishes from myself and Jo. You have been an unbelievable servant to both the football club and the supporters club and one cannot underestimate what you have done for both over the years but more importantly what you have done for the fans. I'm sure you will be missed by everyone but it's not until you have gone that some in the Club will realise what they have lost, someone who is going to be nigh on impossible to replace. You have been a good friend and I hope you will still go on being so. Good luck in whatever you do next Wendy. Up The Addicks.
  • Can only echo what has already been said.

I'm glad WP will still be involved with Valley Gold so her skills are not being totally lost to the fans.
  • Good luck Wendy.....

  • Good luck for the future Wendy thanks for all your hard work with CAFC
  • Wendy, like Airman, is part of the history and soul of our club and that can never be taken away from them or airbrushed from our consciousness. Management structures and so on do change but what is sad is two people like that not having a job in difficult times.

None of our business perhaps but I hope both of you find well paid work and soon and it would be good to hear as and when because there is a genuine concern amongst long term followers of the club.
  • They can't airbrush my memories or kill the spirit inside. Thank you Wendy, for everything x
  • Must Thank Wendy (& Ben & many others) who supported Me during the mid 90's.
Without people like these the world would be a lot worse than it is now (and I genuinely mean that).
Thank You again Wendy and good luck with the future.
  • Thanks for your loyal service Wendy. all the best for the future.
  • I'll add my thanks to both Wendy and Airman for all they'e done for the club over the years.

  • middle name "IS"
  • sorted my first season ticket out for me as shes a friend of my mum in 1997... even though she didnt recognise me straight away when i sat next to her the other week ill forgive her and thank her for all she has done!
  • I hope Wendy continues to be a fan. I'm sure she and her family all will.
  • But Part-time Prothero has never even had the courtesy to introduce himself to her, so don't rely on it.
