There was no doubting the crowd was the proverbial 12th man last night and I was most heartened that we kept singing even at 2-0 down to the (then) table-topping team. We truly created a fantastic atmosphere for the game and our players. But we have all been there in the past when we hear the vitriol and boos when we have gone just a goal down or being held goaless to worse opposition. My question is had we not been playing Cardiff last night and say it was Ipswich that had taken a two goal lead would we have been boo-ing or at least muted which may have lead to a downward spiral for us in the match? Do we only really come out in support when we are a clear under-dog? I hope not but I feel it does come across this way a lot of the times.
By the way for all the boo-boys and girls out there I hope you can now see the positive nature of supporting rather than booing your team when the chips are down even if you think it's your right to express that opinion as a paying customer!

I think yesterday showed that if you can't support the lads- don't bother coming - we don't need you. I bet a good number of the moaners decided to give yesterday's game a miss! We don't need anybody getting on one of our own's backs - how can it possibly help. Positivity and encouragement from all of us is a powerful weapon.
Funny thing was when we were two down I said to my mate "If we can get one back I fancy us to win this" little did I know. Noticed a few regulars weren't there last night but we also did our bit in the Lower North. Great atmosphere, fantastic effort this is why I love football and The Valley.
Ditto - thought the North Upper noise was top class, and the little "crazy gang" at the front of the North Lower got things going there too.
Well done, i'm sure it made a difference.
That crazy gang (All 5 of them) were Dutch I think they did not stop singing and when they didn't know the words to some songs they made their own up IN DUTCH LOL!!
Missed last night, but I thought the Leicester game earlier in the season was top notch by our standards - maybe it's night games that get us going, although that doesn't explain the palace game.

I agree, i missed last night too, nippers not well! And also thought the Leicester Atmos was good too.

The palace game was very strange atmosphere wise.
i think it was because of the amount of non season ticket holders...both the palace and barnsley game i've been surrounded by people who havent been since premiership days and they are a bit out of touch with the level we are at. i'm not saying all casual fans are like that, just my experience this season
Well done to everyone. This sends out such a strong message to so many people, the opposition, the players, CP the board, even potential future investors in the club. So we've now beaten Leicester and Cardiff at home. We can't be that bad, can we? Lets make it fortress Valley again.
I thought the East Stand did pretty well last night. Numbers and volume don't match the covered end, but my god was it heartfelt. As we sang, particularly in that early sustained bit, there were loads of 'ordinary' folk (almoat flask and blanket types) who obviously really really wanted to show their support for Charlton, and for Chris. Individuals would clap and sing with no worries about getting funny looks, not really giving a damn actually, the desire to get behind the players and management was absolutely there...so some mini humble praise for the East Stand too.
We are the east stand We are the east stand We are the east stand over 'ere.
I sang the CP red and white army continuously until the second went in and he switched Jackson into the middle with stephens - i just couldn't get behind it, not because we were losing but that he'd made the same mistake again and Jackson was having an utter mare again. How wrong i was and how pleased i am to say it.

It's a conundrum isn't it? We need to get new and more support in to help sustain the club's future but when they do turn up it somehow mutes the noise levels and the games more often than not seem to be drab, maybe affecting the players on the pitch. Noticeable exceptions of late have been the Stevenage and Hartlepool games but by then we were as good as or were promoted. I wonder in our PL days whether a lot of them turned up to see the 'stars' on the opposition team? Anyway, how do we get people to turn up and create the atmosphere we had last night? I reckon more drummers and free beers to start off with!

I'm not sure about that. That would affect the Barnsley atmosphere but surely not palace where chants that have been sung for year and years would get a rendition?
Great support last night from all 3 sides, well done to one and all. But we should be doing this every game. It's very simple. We don't need drummers. We don't need more drummers. Although they do a good job. We don't need to set up new singers in the East or West. We just need The Covered End to sing loud & proud every game. If we do that some of The East & West will join in. They will never match us, because by definition, if they were the more noisy type then they'd probably be in The Covered End already. It's really that simple. Let's have a rebirth of the passion please. We've just seen what a difference we can make !
