The most depressing thing about yesterday's game was that when we were 3-1 down, either our heads really dropped or we just looked like we couldn't be bothered. Not what you would expect from a Chris Powell team.
That one against liverpool that even Alan Hansen though was the worst performance by a team in the history of the premiership. Amdy Faye at his very best. I was angry for days after that
I didnt think we were as bad as the 4-1 suggests just a bad error for the 2nd goal then we seemed to lose shape they seemed to rip into us wide and use the space we should have brought green on as kerkar balls towards the box were exactly that, Balls!

Agree, if we would of got that second goal, which we had the chances to, rob hulse and jackson free kick, then it would of been a different story, however once they equslised then there was only one winner , and it was painful to watch !

Agree with this actually fisrt half I thought we competed OK on reflection it was no worse than the Barnsley game just a different scoreline. That said ultimately they were both painful to watch!
When are people going to realise the difference between individual mishaps and a whole team playing poor.
Wycombe cup game, Reading away the game after and Millwall 4-0 were games where no one bothered to turn up and play.
Yesterday was not one of those games. Some players who are normally consistent made mistakes and we didn't convert the chances we had at the other end. Simple as that.
Agree with most of what has been said above, 4-1 was not a fair reflection in my opinion and I felt we were unlucky to go in behind at half time. Second half we weren't awful, but oput performance was very flat and the goals we conceded were down to individual mistakes as opposed to being completely overrun for 90 mins! The match stats go some way to showing that we were not as overrun as some are suggesting.
It wasnt that bad, in this league more than any other IMHO its about small margins, if Pritch had put that header away in the 3rd minute, Wilson had not got injured, then we would be patting ourselves on the back after a comfortable win. The changes made by Powell were enforced through injury and then one of our most reliable players made an error, Powell took the bull by the horns and had to be proactive, we had a lot of possession when we went 352, Kerker couldnt cross the road on Saturday. In other games he has been praised for his crossing. The only negative I can aim at Powell was putting JJ on the left, we all know he cant play wide left and not putting Green on the right after Wilsons injury.
We have 4 first team players out injured, Powell has been given sod all money to spend, our team was a make do and mend team, the same will apply tomorrow.
BTW the worst display I have ever seen by Charlton was away at Daggers last season, Powell turned that around, he will do the same again!
We played against a team who's centre halves probably earn a lot more than our starting 11 combined! I don't think we did that bad, we should have been 2 or 3 up before they got a look in and then once they scored their 2nd goal Powelll tried to go more attacking and we hit on the break. At least they seemed to try (in the main) and give me that over that relegation team who seemed to just wander through games with no effort whatsoever. If my team simply are not good enough but put the effort in, that's all you can ask for. Until Jimanez wins the euro millions I think we need to xpect more games like that...
Oh and our worst performance in recent years, 2-0 at home to Forest, Hudson swore at me for giving him a bararge of abuse for being the worst excuse for a captain in living memory!
What upset me about Saturday was the way we fell apart and were in total disarray by the end. The only game in recent years that almost upset me as much was the 4-0 away defeat to Millwall where Llera turned in a truly shocking performance. However many injuries we have CP at least has to play a formation the players understand - I didn't have a clue what was going on by the end of the game on Saturday.
Taken as a job lot the two, two nil lead squanderings at home against Cardiff and Blackpool made my piss boil. With Saturday you'd feel that if Fuller, Wilson, Kermo and Wiggins we'd be able to not embarass ourselves at the very least.
I thought up to their second we were the better team. That was Boro's 6th succesive away win so in those terms I don't think we should be too neurotic about it. It is a worry that we can't dispatch chances - Wolves being a case in point but we should have beaten Leeds too- and are making silly mistakes but this is down to confidence rather than ability. The Sheff Utd game was us being totally rubbish - I don't think that was the case on Saturday - we had some decent chances. Every chance they had - they scored from!
Ian took two friends on Saturday who are not Charlton supporters. The last time they were at the Valley was for my 40th, we lost at home to Forest that day and it was the season we got relegated.
There have been far worse displays than saturday....remember when we got done on a Sunday against Walsall at home and we was dreadful....absolutely dreadful.....I know this team we have now will fight and fight and will get us up that table....
4-1 could easily have been 6-1once we started chasing a point in the second half. I think Wilson getting crocked by that dirty b******d down by the corner flag was the pivotal moment. We were struggling to compete in midfield in the first half, but for all of their dominance they created few chances. Once the loss of Wilson depleted our midfield even further we were done for. Think a fit Hughes could add a bit more midfield strength. Back to the thread subject -- Not as bad as Sheffield Utd 2-5 and Barnsley 1-3 imo.
Saturday seemed like more a matter of heads dropping after a certain period of time. There's no laziness or lack of passion in this team, we all know that. Any performances we have seen in the past that include those traits are automatically worse than this.
We were comprehensively beaten by a much better side. Its not pleasant viewing, but it happens.
I thought we had the best chances - difficult to legislate for Morro's pass - he wasn't under any pressure and Boro weren't threatening IMO at that point. We had all the real chances up to then. Another defensive lapse and a bit of good fortune on their part for the third and we were chasing from there. Any critism after the third is wrong as it was right to have a go - take risks etc... which we did.
I know its bad as my two lads both upper north season ticket holders have brought tickets for everton on the day of the huddersfield game! So i will be going alone They never lost faith before

TBF to Powell he could have left it as it was & we may have lost 1-2, keeping it tight.
Then, he would have been accused by many (probably including me), that he did nothing to try & get at least a point.
It's not easy being a manager :-)
They didnt think we had improved much from then.
