Maybe you should only be allowed to sit in the north upper if you are under 30?
I hope not I'm just 60. I sing loudly. If that rule comes in I'd have to sit away from my family in the East or West stand. I haven't got a blanket or a thermos flask. Anyway, yesterday in J block where I sit, the chanting and singing was for most of the match. I've suggested in the past that the away support should be placed at the sides - not in the south stand - but was told it's about security. Another thing that has always amazed me - why an away stand named after one of our finest - Jimmy Seed - why not - The Murphy Stand!
Why don't you make noise in the West/East Stand where you sit if you're so passionate about the atmosphere being created, you help make one yourself. #twat
Try reading the thread. If you criticised a player and someone said, 'If you're so passionate about Charlton why don't you get on the pitch and play for them?' you would rightly think that was ridiculous. (BTW, this isn't twitter, so the # doesn't really acheive anything.)
Atmosphere was poor and usually is poor. Need to do something about it. Little Barnsley playing in front of that sized crowd and hearing their fans, I'm certain was a huge factor in their performance. We made our ground an occasion for them and they rose to it.

I'll have you know that in Block F of the East Stand, we often join in with the singing. As far as starting a song is concerned, that's going too far.
was there in the Selhurst days and did my fair share of getting the singing going with others.
where does the singing start at our home games....North Upper. North Lower rarely start up songs and East & West are not going to get the atmosphere going.
as much as the crowd feeds off a team performance, the players will definitely feed off the noise of the crowd. i wonder what our boys thought of the atmosphere yesterday.
cliche, but the crowd can act as a 12th man.
i could try starting one up but i'd be looked upon as if i was mad...i sit in NL.
so yes, i would say that "responsibility" for getting an atmosphere going is with the CE choir.
we had a virtual full house and that ground could have been rocking, at least for parts of the game. i don't buy the argument that the £5 a ticket dilutes the atmosphere, those same singers are always there. how are we going to get the "possibles" back if they rock up to a quiet ground?
Good post Macronate, I agree something needs to be done! Palace have done it (although have copied euro crap in a cringy way) but hey they make alot more noise than us! Dunno what the remedy is tho!
Its always bad on these cheap happy clappy days dont know why? My boys wont even go on these cheap days as its always bad and win lose or draw half leave 15 mins before the end? Roll on tues eve Real support

I can't say I entirely agree with you macronate. Yes, we are best placed to start songs, that's a given but to say that it could have been "rocking" is a bit optimistic. I can't remember the entire valley ever rocking - I think the best we hope for is that everyone in the NU gets involved so at least to us who are in it, it feels pretty loud - the best that ever comes from anywhere else in the ground is clapping along. while there might be sporadic pathches of 10-20 people singing in the east and west, it can't be heard more than a couple of blocks away. Despite the atmosphere not ever being amazing, there have been plenty of opportunities last season, this season and even on Saturday at times for other parts of the ground to join in - from what I've seen, it never happens on any kind of scale. And that's fine, people aren't obliged to sing. I had to move from the west upper to h block NU about 10 years ago because for me, the atmosphere is an integral part of watching football. Unfortunately I think that if people want a louder (to them)atmosphere, move somewhere nearer the NU. I do however agree that there is no need for name calling!
Covered End Choir? My other half phones me at about 3.25 she said r u at the Highbury library? I had to explain yes I was at football!!! The whole day was lame, the players, the support, the result, another fuckupforafiver! Shame after all Airmans hard work!
I agree with most of that Ross except the valley did used to have a great atmo before north upper was built. Still not sure why drummer and singers moved up there.
Tbh it is a bit embarrassing at times the lack of noise. Is there another club that has their vocal support 1. So far from pitch. 2. In the most unaccoustic part of ground 3. So far from away fans for banter etc
The thing is I often end up with a soar throat after a match day and yet often I come on here and see people saying atmosphere was poor, I know thy the covered end is relied upon to start songs off and we do most the time but a lot of the time others don't join in so it can't be just down to us

I think my points above are why everyone sdays atmo is poor. The north upper does usually give it a good go but the stand is poor for noise making and is so far from pitch the noise does not carry. The roughly 50 of us making noise at derby on a tuesday nite was louder than the north upper at home!

Well I heard very little from the Covered End choir on Saturday. No VFR until the second half for example.
We do occasionally have a good atmosphere, Huddersfield last season for example, where the whole crowd was signing, Sheff Utd was good too.
I don't have any passion to join in with the singing. The kiddies who belt out VRF at such a high tempo.
Same with the usual songs, red army, etc.. in recent years the kids seem to want to sing quicker than the fans used to sing them and frankly it sounds awful now. Even saw a comment on a youtube video from a Fulham fan noting how VFR at Craven cottage last year was too quick.
You know some managers say sorry to the fans bcoz the crowd was brilliant and players was poor etc do you think chrissy powell said sorry to the players bcoz of the poor permormance of the fans
Yeah its probably the fans that were the problem on Saturday everyone, dont worry, things will be back to normal winning ways once the attendance drops by 10k.
Is the reason most of the singers are upstairs because of pricing? If we could charge the same for the north lower would they move there? The amount of times i've seen the goals and highlights on football shows where players score in front of their home end and are greeted by rows of empty seats. Us included. I know about the pricing issues but we have to try and get our little bit of passion closer to the pitch.

And we do good clapping.

We pay the for the benefits for those in the upper north, so we might
as well do there job for them.
Playoffs here we come
