I had two idiots (and that's being kind!) about two rows in front of me hurling a load of abuse at Wilson, and can honestly say that I think everyone in and around that area looked like they wanted to punch their faces in. as I sit in the lower north, I had a good view of Wilson, and he fitted in rather comfortably with Solly on the left. even when Hamer came up for the corner AND ALMOST SCORED they still said he was a pile of sh*te, even though he almost got us a draw. typical idiots who clearly have never seen a game before in their miserable lives.
Surely we've learnt not to write players off after one match?
Kermorgant - opinion was that he'd be useless and a liability, how did that turn out? Solly - too short/not fast enough - get rid. Ended up winning player of the year... Chris Powell - should we dredge up the Powell out threads? I doubt many of the contributors would stand by their comments now. Morrison - when he arrived we were confidently told by the experts that he was never going to be more than Ok as both Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday had rejected him...ditto with Matt Taylor except the complaint was that he couldn't get into the Exeter side so how would he fare for us? Hamer - a Reading reject according to the experts.
Personally, I think Wilson only improved in the second half once Green came on. We got the ball out wide right, double on their left side and was threatening; it worked for a while. With Pritchard in front of Wilson, who in my opinion is not a natural right back and no where near up to Championship standard, we are completely ineffective on our right.
It all starts further up the pitch. Our midfield is so flat and slow it means we can't play the ball through the middle. We hoof it up to Yann hoping for a knock down to feed the midfield in that way. But the opposition double up on Yann and we don't win the ball, consequently it comes back at us.
Pritchard out wide right tends to come inside quite often, leaving our right back exposed. This is a huge disadvantage as I don't think Wilson is half the player Solly is. I feel we're really missing Wagstaff and his ability to defend and his understanding with Solly. The sooner he is back fit and healthy, stick him in the side we'll see an improvement. The flat, slow midfield 4 we currently are playing, we are not passing the ball around, but bypassing the whole midfield.
We were a completely different side when Green came on, we had an outlet out wide, someone who can beat a player and put the ball in the box. This allowed us to keep the ball in midfield, push further up, push Palace back and ultimately create chances. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see we really do lack width and pace in the side at the moment.

And now some muppets want to write Wilson off...
