Football is common knowledge not as if ethnics dont know about football We dont say whites only We have a ticket office anyone can walk up to and buy tickets, strangley they are no different to white people
So if anyone wants to come they can, why should we do anything different.
This
It only highlights difference and causes seperation by singling out different ethnic groups, tree hugging, wishy washy thinking, perhaps we should encourage more eskimos or Navajo Indians as they seem to be under represented?
I and many others on here I suspect, dont go to many Kabadi matches, I dont see the Indian community reaching out to me, neither do I care if they dont, and am not offended or consider it racist either.
How many people from the borough of Greenwich (of any race) go to The Valley? Probably quite a small percentage of the crowd...
Personally I've never found the word 'coloured' awkward, well no more awkward than calling someone of mixed race (e.g. Barack Obama, Lewis Hamilton, Rio Ferdinand) 'black' as that seems to be suggesting that people are defined by half their racial origins...but then I'm of mixed race myself, and proud of BOTH my backgrounds!

"ethnics", "coloured"- Our own fans are enough to put a lot of people off. Look no further!
I don't know a black or asian person who would be even slightly offended by either of those words....
Some high profile blacks are now embracing the "n" word. I guess that once you are comfortable amongst a group of people, you don't care what you are called. You can call a mate a fat git, ginger twat, without him feeling insulted. It is the insecure that need the correct label.
In my experience it is the white illiberal liberals who stir it up by criticising people for using non PC terminology or coming up with nonsense like calling Christmas Winterval so as not to offend Muslims. I work and have worked with Muslims over a quarter of a century and have never heard one object to Christmas. In fact within Islam Jesus Christ is a respected prophet contrary to what many with their own agendas would have us believe.
Sorry, Len, but it is utter nonsense to say Winterval was created as a term for Christmas that did not offend Muslims.
Even the despicable dregs at the Daily MFail were forced to apologise for pedaling this untruth for a decade or so
8 November 2011 Winterval was the collective name for a season of public events, both religious and secular, which took place in Birmingham in 1997 and 1998. We are happy to make clear that Winterval did not rename or replace Christmas.
Floyd,
My point is simply that the PC terminology nonsense that stifles and diverts debate, such as on this thread, invariably stems from white illiberal liberals and not the ethnic minorities who are allegedly the beneficiaries of that terminology. In that sense the origins of Winterval are irrelevant. I mentioned it purely because, as you yourself acknowledge, it has been used to smear Muslims.

My black best friend was asked by me to come to the valley once and she asked her mum. Her mum then asked me 'how many black people will be there' my answer 'a few' wasn't what she wanted to hear. A lot of black people rightly or wrongly feel that if there isn't many black people in a particular place then that place must be racist. On another occassion my friend being older now came to the valley and thoroughly enjoyed herself. For me the biggest hurdle was convincing her that no-one would be racist towards her or look at her in 'that' way.
My daughter is also mixed race and always comes with me when I go and absolutely loves Charlton I hope we hit a wider more diverse audience someday maybe having a successful and popular black manager will help.

You do now, I'm not an ethnic or a coloured, especially not a P word, I'm Kap nothingmore or nothing less.
In answer to the original subject, no the club do not need to do much more than they are doing which from what i recollect is reaching out to the community and the sparing use of comps to community groups

Agree with you basic sentiments, but surely your winterval mention is the exact opposite of your point - white Mailesque tossers blaming muslims for the loss of good British C

Except the example you use wasnt PC terminology, which is my point! It was just a term used by BCC for a period of events.
It was the tossers at the Mail who put a non existant and un necessary PC slant on it to sell papers, cause outrage in Tonbridge and increase racial tensions.
We all have coloured skin, so why would we want to attract more "coloured" fans? Think we have about 20 odd thousand that are gonna turn up at the valley tonight supporting us.
Interestingly I read a book once which argued that white people are without colour, black etc are coloured due to pigmentation, they are human whereas we are 'like' humans, hence referred to as mankind....it was a book about someone turning to islam in an LA prison so slightly skewed but it was an interesting take, I'll have to dig it out.
When I born, I black. When I grow up, I black. When I go in sun, I black. When I scared, I black. When I sick, I black. And when I die, I still black.
And you white people. When you born, you pink. When you grow up, you white. When you go in sun, you red. When you cold, you blue. When you scared, you yellow. When you sick, you green And when you die, you grey…
And you calling me colored??

nigh on impossible to get something like this thread PC for everyone these days! Agree with many comments about terminology used to describe a persons roots or background whether they be black White Easter European, Chinese Asian American Canadian etc etc. I am not a fan of 'ethnic' as a term used to describe a person - for same reason as East Ham said ...reminds me of Ethnic cleansing and just the thought of any human considering that as a way forward repulses me. For me, I'm comfortable with the word 'culture' as used to describe a persons background and way they grown up in a particular environment / way of life irrespective of the colour of their skin and then can we all just be fans and consider ways to increase fan base within our interesting and diverse local multi cultural communities. Peace and Love everyone

But then 'black' people aren't actually black anyway, so it's an inaccurate term, as they're actually varying shades of brown...
The whole thing is a mess, say 'Asian person' in most parts of the world, and they think you mean someone who's Chinese/Korean etc whereas 'Asian' in the UK is used for people from the Indian subcontinent... Instead we call Chinese/Japanese people 'oriental' which is considered offensive in America!
