can't believe that this is all the reaction to one of the all time greats leaving, perhaps for ever.
A real gent who played 100% in every game and scored the 4th goal in a great win over a doomed to relegation West Ham.
Mark my words in 10 years people will be moaning about our "overpaid, lazy, don't play for the shirt" players after another early Champions League exit and some one who say "we need players like Kish who gave everything for the club"

Totally agree Henry, he has cult status in my opinion - just like Leaburn

I don't doubt all that but he's never convinced me as a footballer. Bloody hell I forgot he ever scored for us. Scored two in two then never again. I thank him for his effort and committment and wish him well but at the same time he's been hansomely rewarded for his work and effort and committment is the least we should expect in return.
According to the Leeds Utd website, he's only gone to the end of March!! - not exactly out to pasture...
I do agree with Mr. Irving's comment, but I don't think its necessarily the end of his CAFC career?!? Probably still a part to play here if we get some injuries. Cannot fault his committment and a great servant to the club.
Never changed my opinion of him. 100% trier but woefully short of true Premiership class. I have never seen a player miss kick, give away possession or shoot so badly as Kish at this level.
I remember someone saying once that every team has their Kish, well I am struggling to think of any.
I want players with commitment and heart but I want them to be decent footballers too.

not quite the end but he's out of contract in the summer and won't be retained. I doubt we'll see him again in the first team (unless an injury crises robs us of everyone else).

can't fault his effort or commitment but the guy was simply never good enough for the Premiership. End of...
You don't last nearly seven seasons at a Premiership club if you're not good enough.
Kish is not the most talented player ever to wear the shirt but he is better than many give him credit for. The way he brought the ball down against Blackburn earlier this season for example, his sublime pass to Hughes for the first goal when we sent the Palace down. I could go on. Those were not the actions of someone that can't play football.
One area that Kish is an undisputed great though is his effort and commitment. He is right up there with the likes of Gritty, Browny, John Robinson and Kinsella in my opinion.
The guy made 200 appearances for us and we were in the Premiership throughout all his time at the club.
That statistic alone must put him pretty high up the list of our best ever players.
Can't be bothered to argue about it now, especially as one kind soul who sits in front of me offered me out when I told him to stop Rado bashing (& I don't mean for a pint of Pride)
We all have our opinions of him.
Thank the guy for what he did for CAFC (no matter how big or small you believe that to be) & lets move on.

Depends on the club and the manager Len. As we all know, football is a game of opinions.[/cite]
OK I'll put it another way. If the players aren't good enough a team won't survive (relatively comfortably) in the Premiership for six out of seven seasons.
The unglamorous work of players like Kish enables the creative players to express themselves.
He is 32 now and possibly past his best. I've the utmost confidence in Alan Pardew and if he thinks Kish is now surplus to requirements I fully respect that.
It does pi** me off though that even when he is (probably) leaving some people still cannot acknowledge the contribution he has made to the progression of the Club.

Of course Len there are two sides to every argument: Maybe a team who didn't constantly field players who were not up to it, may have achieved more in 6 seasons than mid - bottom table mediocrity, including continuous end of season slumps and atrocious home runs.
I love the bloke. He is the epitomy of a Charlton player in my time supporting the club (28 years - as of the WHam game) - 100% commitment, although slightly limited.
As Lennie said at the last City Addicks meeting, unfortunately sometimes that just isn't good enough anymore.
I certainly wish him well. Will never forget him making such a fool of dear old Christiano Ronaldo - even going down in internet history with his own little cartoon of it - does anyone have a copy of that?

Chirps,
Given the resources of our club mid table in the Premiership is about as good as it gets realistically.
Perhaps things might have been a bit better if Rufus hadn't got injured and Parker sold but Kish can't be blamed for that!!:-)
I have nothing against him personally. I have never doubted his commitment nor professionalism.
I was the first to praise him after his performance against Blackburn.
Good clips, Stanmore. Didn't Kish take him out something like 7 times and only got booked right at the end of the match?
Had forgotten about the Graham Stuart one!
The one I was originally thinking of was a stick drawing showing "Kish" kicking him and Ronaldo diving.
Len,
I can accept the resources argument most of the time. However, do you remember a season a few years ago when 4th place was really up for grabs, I mean really. We were hardly out of the top 5 from Sep to Dec. We really had a chance to not only have a best ever finish but also a European place was a distinct possibility. Of course we all know what happened. A succession of poor performances and results led to an infamous post of mine.
Now I'm not saying this is Kish's fault of course, but just to accept MTM as the best we can ever achieve just doesn't wash with me.
Thanks Kish, you have always been one of my favourites. Most people failed to appreciate him because most of his best work was done when closing people down, and some of his passes did go spectacularly astray. I will never forget the game against Everton a couple of years ago when he marked Gravesen out of the game and we beat a high flying Everton 2-0. He was a lot better than people gave him credit for and I, for one, will miss him.

Same commitment level as Kins in my mind!

I think that "all time great" is going a bit too far....

agree entirely.

If only the more gifted players in the squad had his heart....
But please don't keep them up!!!!!
