Hermann Hreidarsson - to play for nothing at first for Pompey

  • Really don't see how activating a clause was "doing us a favour". If you imagine a world in which he didn't have that clause we could have transferred him without a fee if his salary was too much, or we could have got a fee, if someone was willing to pay. I can't say what would have happened, but at the time Pompey were distributing money with gay abandon.

Just read this, having second thoughts like my first thoughts now!!!!!!!

Every week he stayed with us while we tried to sell him would be costing us 30 grand.

The fact that he went straight away probably saved us £300k+.

We nearly went skint a few years back for the sake of a million quid.

Before hearing Mr Murray speak I felt the same way about HH, which is why I asked the question.

It's easy to imagine a world in which HH didn't have that clause because the club had a lot of other players on premiership wages that didn't have it, didn't leave and we couldn't sell so we had to keep paying them wages we couldn't afford.
  • About 7 years ago I was ill, and he was my favourite player. He heard of this and came to visit me. A top bloke and I'll never forget that.

Nuff said for me. Always thought he was a decent player that worked hard. A plus point from the Prem years.

  • I can't get past the irony that a player that had been relegated about fifteen times had a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if the team (with him in it) was relegated.

That aside I thought he was a great servant to our club, and if he'd not moved on I wouldn't have been able to buy my current house, so it worked out very well for me.
  • Was a big fan of HH. He was an absolute beast of a player in a match. His lanky stride down the left turned him into a freight train.

Remember the Bolton at home game the season we got relegated and he smashed Kevin Davies jaw in due to some of the "Challenges" he was putting on HH before that. Legend.....even though he got sent off.
  • Portsmouth will need someone like him in this tough time. Good luck to him and the club.
  • i proudly have a herm worn and signed shirt by him in the 03/04 season and the rest of the squad. safe to say he is fucking huge. im 6'1 and wide and it still dwarfs me.
