I thought he was a self fulfilling prophesy..he started OK but was torn to shreds by many fans including lots on here..in the end he fulfilled their expectations.
No doubt if thousands tell Lionel Messi he is a complete embarrassment who is not fit to wear the shirt, eventually he will be.
I had a feeling the fans may be the blame for Francis being utter cack.
The game at the valley in one of the cup competitions was the one that finally did it for me , he was giving the ball away in his own penalty area, he was clearly in the last chance salon , confidence shot too pieces he was subbed at half time.
That must be up there with the worst individual performance I've seen in a charlton shirt.

Is the last chance salon the one you visit before you decide to have your hair shaved off completely? Rooneys been avoiding it for years and Shearer was in this summer by the look of it.
Watched tonight's game too, Francis was excellent, couldn't put a foot wrong
In a JPT game, a competition we played our third division reserves in. His signing is one of the signs of how clueless Parkinson was. I'm glad we can put that time behind us.
Why are we bringing the Parkinson was clueless,Francis was shit debate up again.Francis was a scapegoat of a lot of Charlton supporters pure and simple. No matter what he did it was never any good. If,as other people have suggested,he was a confidence player why didn't we try to give him a bit of confidence by supporting him instead of booing him when his name was announced.Parky was not clueless,he got us to the play offs and you don't work in pro football as long as him,if you are clueless.I must say I am getting very pissed off with the negative attitude of a lot of Charlton supporters,I think I have suddenly morphed into Off it.
Many forget that when we failed to get promoted at the first attempt we didn't have a pot to pi$$ in.
Parky had to wait quite some time before he could bring in players, we got what we could afford and what was available.
Frances and McCormack got a hell of a lot of undeserved flack from certain elements, pressure from the home fans didn't help their confidence, hence the poor performances.
If McCormack wasn't any good then Di Canio wouldn't be playing him week in week out. Both of them confidence players who are good at League One standard.
Parky did the best he could with the resources available.
Anyway, this is old old news and we have moved on.
I want to know why I can't find the New Bird on Countdown thread?

The atmosphere was poisonousness at the time and he bought a confidence player. Strange how that didn't work out.
I'd agree that Francis and McOxo weren't very good but got a disproportionate amount of stick. Nobody was exactly playing well but there seemed to be sacred cows (Racon being the prime example), and scapegoats (the aforementioned duo).
Parky got to hang onto some expensive resources like Bailey, Racon and Semedo. If he had moved them on he'd have had more money to spend in that first year down in League One. His choice. I understand that there were enquiries about the players, but he felt we had a better chance of getting out of it with those players - fair enough as he'd had a hand in bringing them in. When he did dabble in the transfer market he regularly boobed as players like McOxo, Francis and Abbott came in and flopped, for whatever reason.
Parkinson had us one penalty shooutout away from the Playoff Final, and then had us in a similar position when he moved on. Thought he did a decent job in the circumstances.

To be fair, he also brought in Deon Burton, Dailly, Fraser Richardson and Johnny Jackson
You should have seen him on Saturday at Sheffield United. 3 of their 5 goals were directly his fault. Defending is not his strong point. He's rather like Wolves' Stephen Ward. Looks good going forward, but cannot defend to save his life.

FAMILY man Simon Francis revealed he has never felt more settled after signing his new three-year deal with Cherries.
Dependable defender Francis, 28, yesterday committed his future to the Dean Court club by agreeing terms on an improved deal, extending his stay by two years.
The reliable right-back described his delight at sealing the deal and hopes to build on last season’s success after helping to propel Cherries to the promised land of the Championship.
And Francis, who missed just four league matches during the historic promotion push, says happiness in his home life has played its part in his fine form on the field.
Explaining what the new deal will mean to his young family, Francis exclusively told the Daily Echo: “I am the most comfortable I have ever been in my career.
“I have a family to look after and I’m happy and settled off the pitch, which is vitally important.
“We really like the area and, although these things are always down to how things go, the club is on a real high and I can see myself living here for a long time.
“I have a little girl and it is really important for me to have a settled home life – people who have kids will be able to relate to that.
“With the pressures that come with this type of career you have to think of your family first. My fiancé couldn’t be happier now everything is sorted and we’re looking for somewhere to buy down here.
“I remember when I was at Charlton, before the loan move (to Cherries) came off, and Carlisle had shown an interest.
“When I went home and told my fiancé she was on the verge of tears because it would be such a wrench to move so far from her family in Essex.
“As it is now, we see a lot of both our families and we’re both delighted with our life down here. We’re looking to stay for a few more years.”
However, the experienced fans’ favourite was keen to add that there were plenty of professional reasons behind the renewal and lauded the influence of boss Eddie Howe.
Francis has consistently figured in Cherries’ backline throughout the tenures of first boss Lee Bradbury, Paul Groves and now Howe.
And while he initially signed on loan from Charlton Athletic in November 2011, Francis always fancied a lengthy stay.
“I never joined thinking it was just for the short-term,” he added.
“When I signed under Lee Bradbury the club had been in the play-offs the year before and I felt it was going places. It was an exciting opportunity and one that I couldn’t pass up.
“I think my experience helped me keep my place. I had always been playing under the old managers and did enough to keep my place when the new ones came in. It is never nice when a manager is sacked and as a player you always want consistency.
“That is what makes a team successful, for the gaffer to have the backing of the lads and the club and we have that under Eddie Howe.
“A lot of the lads are much more comfortable and happier with him in charge and that has shown in the success we’ve had.”

He's an average League One standard fullback playing in League One, and that is his level.
Francis was never going to endear himself to most Charlton supporters, once they decided he wasn't Fraser Richardson.
Football is a confidence game. And many of our fans took pleasure in telling him he was shit.
I'm pleased for him that he's established himself at Bournemouth.
Admittedly, he had his own inherent level of incompetence but the fans didn't help and got on his back very early. on.

Cherries: Happy home life's key for settled Simon
