  • Lets get this straight -my goat has been got! Powell has been trying to strengthen the squad- yes and nobody is saying that can't and shouldn't be done. Where the difference of opinion is where people are saying that players that did so well last season are not up to the higher level. Apparently Hamer, Cort, Stephens, Holland and BWP are not up to it according to some - replacing these players would have ben a disaster IMO and I don't think Powell has ever said these players are not up to scratch and tried to replace them. If there is a better defence than ours in the Championship I'll eat a dog turd. Our midfield is very competeive - all in all we have a developing team that gained a record points total last season - something I think only a handful of clubs would have been capable of in last season's Championship. One of those clubs would have been Brum and we have already shown how we stack up to them.

Its about time that those moaners and depressives adopt the wave of optimism that we can all ride the crest off. This is going to be a very exciting and enjoyable season for us, so lets bloody enjoy it FFS rather than spout unfounded doom and gloom rubbish. Apart from that, I find it a bit insulting to some of the best characters we have had at the club since Curbs was in charge to doubt them and want them replaced. They will take us where we want to go, we just have to get behind them and let them. The hard work was done last season where SCPs signings were inspired and close to genius.
  • In injury time we sat back as most teams would do in the same circumstance when beating a team that was pretty unbeatable at home last season and we conceeded a good goal - it happens. I don't think anything negative can be glened from it.
  • I'll stick my head above the parapet and own up that I am not sure that our midfield was good enough for the championship. Thought it was often outshone last season and I said on here that it was the area I wanted to see strengthened the most. Wasn't there yesterday and I am just as happy as everyone else that we came out of the traps yesterday looking good enough to compete. For what it's worth I still think that over the season I'm still not convinced the midfield is good enough for us to push on. I was wrong on yesterday's performance but one swallow doesn't make a summer. Hope I am just a moaner and the midfield sweep all before it. Me I'm not sure still.
  • I think there's a lot we actually agree on. I've always said our back four were excellent last season (whether Taylor or Cort played) and I think Hamer will keep on improving.

Like SHG I had/have doubts about the midfield, though Powell has made the midfield more solid by playing Pritchard on the right. That also gives us a midfielder with energy and pace. I think most would agree we could do with one more CM, and I think it's far better it's someone that can seriously challenge the players we have, than say a Darel Russell who would just provide cover (if we can afford it of course).

I don't want players to come in and walk into the team - but 2/3 good signings could have created even better competition for places. They might improve on what we have, or current regulars might be pushed on and keep their place. Look at Hayes last season, did a good job, no real reason to replace him, but Powell found a player in Kermorgant who could offer similar qualities and more.

I was confident we were going up for much of last season and we're still a club on the up. Along the way Powell will improve the squad here and there and l expect to see a few more Kermorgant's come along and work their way into the team.

if our Goals against column is the lowest in the Championship i'll eat the dog turd that you don't eat

I believe we have bought in those two midfielders in Cook and Kerkar, and a good young CH. All we need now is that striker. Hopefully Baldock, but if not a loan.
  • oohahaa....why are always so fecking negative....you seem to really enjoy bursting the good feel bubbles of anyone on here with something positive or hopeful to say....even if it is a bit of wishful thinking and tongue in cheek.
It's our club for FFS, surely we are allowed to go a bit OTT when in the company of our own.
  • Just been looking on the leicester equivalent of charlton life ( foxes forum ) and the general feel is Leicester would be happy with a point against us. Shows we are rated by teams in this division .

One way or the other, the end of the season looks like being fun!
  • i'm not trying to burst anyones bubbles , i say it how I see it , people are allowed to write and express their shitty opinion and so am i

i fancied us to go up for most of last season and even the year before i fancied us for the play offs for the first half of that season so my opinion and view is quite simply that and if i think someone is talking a load of turd i'll point it out even if it is hurtful to the sensitive souls here

I think this post needs to be remembered.

  • Yes, my statement is open to argument - this one is a matter of fact.

    Promise?

We will see, but based on the cup game both looked like wingers to me.

If Hollands was unavailable I'm not sure our CM would be "solid" enough with any 2 of Jackson, Pritchard, Stephens or Kerkar in the middle.
  • It's the depth of squad we need yesterday that team can match and better most , however with 1 injury we become weaker as we don't have 2 champ standard players for each position last year we had 2 that we league 1 standard

Big difference and could prove problematic

Right - but I don't think the plan this season is to run away with the league and amass 101 points.

The plan this season is "to go for it".

Taken out of context, of course.
But it's what SCP said on Saturday.

    ;o)
  • Also it is possible that we will not need to rely on more than 14 players over the season.

In the past teams didn't use more than that and now we are out of the League Cup, and may get only one FA Cup game we shouldn't have too many 'three games a week' this season.

Wasn't in doubt, but equally one good performance and one point don't mean much. The players we had last year weren't going to get bad overnight
  • I'll add my pennies worth here but it's only an opinion. I agree with Soundas any team that wins League 1 with 101 points should not be troubled by most teams in The Championship. In the ideal world if we can add a good ball winning midfielder to add some strength in depth and another 15 goal striker I think we will compete very well without any problems and maybe even get a playoff place. CP knows what he's doing and I for one am happy.

We need to play a few games to make a proper judgement about this division.

An encouraging start for sure which augurs well but don't count too many chickens just yet!

Let's see how things are after 5 games.

It's not always the team with the better players that succeeds/survives team spirit and unity are just as important.
And at the moment we have that in abundance. The test will come if this team gets a few bad results. I think we're going to be fine.
