Confidence restored

  • I wouldn't say that confidence has been restored but we've just been reminded of how good this team actually is and why we pissed the league last season.
  • That video is brilliant!!

Sorry, but anyone whose confidence had gone before a ball was kick, or has then had it restored after just one game really needs to get some perspective or I seriously fear for their blood pressure/heart.

  • IN POWELL WE TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • No one has lack confidence in the first 11, it's just a few us think the opportunity to use the promotion to chase a play off place has been wasted by not improving the squad

    My feeling exactly.

Well I do for one. A bit of luck and ŵe would have won 3 or 4 to 1.

Great team full stop. I also disagree on back up. They may not win as a complete team, but one or two joining the first team would fit in just fine.

To make that last step up though we do need another top striker.

If we do not sign one then mid table - fine by me. Onwards and upwards!

Really? Where have you been these past few months? Not on here, that's for sure. (Which, incidentally, is no bad thing!)

  • I'm pleased we didn't get tonked today , but more than held our own, i just knew they were going to bring Ziggy on , and he was going to give us grief , if that was a league 1 fixture , we'd have won it , can't switch off for the 90 minutes , as Huddersfield found to their cost on Friday evening.
  • Thought this team would do okay at this level and today was a good start.

My worry is the lack of options from the bench if we need a goal, hopefully we can find some investment from somewhere and get a couple of players in then we could be looking at a very good season.

  • Another striker who can get 10-15 goals on top of the 15 i think BWP will get and 10 for Yann and we could really challenge for the top 6 it sounds, lets just hope a certain player comes on loan who i think has been discussed on here recently.

    N'Guessan?

Mid-table it is then.(which im happy with)

  • If you look at zigics goal he flukes the first touch of his shin ...
  • Haynes will be a good option from the bench when fit - Cook looks an excellent signing.
  • What Clem said , that 11 is good enough for a solid seasn but if either striker got injured I wouldn't want a regular run of Haynes cos imo he isn't gonna do it at this level regularly enough
  • Well, I think his pace will prove useful to us -Don't get me wrong- I'd like a couple more in but to compliment the squad but I think our starting 11 is promotion material and thought it before yesterday. We have the best two full backs in the league -Morro is class personified and Cort compliments those with his aerial ability and strength. Midfield- We have a real discovery in Pritchard -whilst everybody now knows he is good, I think some don't see how good he is going to get - Hollands and Stephens are excellent players. JJ - nothing needs to be said and in Kermogant and BWP, we have a front two who will give most teams problems. Can't understand why some were so pessimistic!!!

In part I think you have answered your own question. You stopped eulogising at the first eleven. I don't think we have too many behind that who you can genuinely make a case for regular first team selection. Very big squad now but no real quality below first 13/14 ?

  • But there is time to bring in one or two. I'm happy defensively - midfielder and possibly a striker that's all. Absolutely nothing to panic about and I find it a bit strange in all honesty that some seem to be doing that when we are very competetive.

    Agreed.

  • I think many here seem to have this idea in their heads that every club in this league has about 25 players at their disposal. We have about 4-5 very decent backs up for injuries (Taylor, Green, Haynes, Kerkar, Cook). I would say that alone plus our starting eleven will match at least half of this division!

Just enjoy what we're achieving FFS!!
  • Buzsaky would be a good signing on a free, IMO.

Good shout , only problem could be wage
  • It's easier to get strength in depth in a top 6 premiership side when quality players will be happy to sit on the bench on silly money at a big club playing in the premiership.

We have a very capable first 11 who proved last term they deserve a chance at this level and good to see they will be repaid. Challenge is getting in another 11 of similar quality who will be happy to keep the bench warm more often than not, rather than be in the shop window raising their profile and improving there game with a guaranteed starting place.

You'd rather play as a starting midfielder/ striker every week at Watford or Hull than be a back up player at ours surely. Rhodes could have left Huddersfield to be in a top championship side or mid table premiership side no doubt but probably has stayed put until the right offer came in. No way players of his ilk would move to a club like ours unless the money is silly which in most clubs cases in this league isnt gonna happen.
  • I guess that some will disagree but I've long been of the opinion that there's not that much difference between the top 3 or 4 clubs in the first division and most mid-table Championship sides.
  • I suspect you are right there SoundAs.

Sounds about right , look what the score was against fulham pre season ;)

I think a few on here are youngsters and when you are young you love transfers - The players not playing are always better than the ones that are etc... Fortunately, the team will do the talking for those of us who know what we are talking about as sadly our words won't convince anybody.

Good to see our man of the match yesterday was deemed to be well below Championship standard and our midfield would be overun at this level - you have to laugh:)

Powell himself has said some moves have fallen through and we know he's still hoping for 1 or 2 more.

He's also got most signings right. I would trust him that anyone he did want to sign would have improved the team.

Who was deemed to be well below Championship standard?
  • It's the depth of squad we need yesterday that team can match and better most , however with 1 injury we become weaker as we don't have 2 champ standard players for each position last year we had 2 that we league 1 standard

Big difference and could prove problematic
