its prolly just a continuation of getting rid of the deadwood at the club , nothing to worry about it , more money saved maybe it can go to baldocks wages
Why are we all so shocked, it said weeks ago he was on "gardening leave" If you stand down as director but continue in the role of CE you don't go on gardening leave do you. It was obvious that as soon as he stood down he was gone.
"Tony Jimenez, Richard Murray and I are looking forward to working with incoming executive vice-chairman Martin Prothero, and have complete confidence that the executive and senior management team that he puts together will continue to build on the great progress we have made both on and off the pitch over the past year and half."
Prothero is a very interesting appointment, what is his motivation? Why would you give up a senior executive post in a global player like Nike to help put together a board and senior managers at a second division football club?
He's got to be making some money out of this deal somewhere, maybe Prothero is bringing the new money in. Wouldn't be surprised to see MS or even TJ replaced in the next month or so.

I agree with you that one wonders what Prothero's motivation is but I very much doubt the scenario you suggest. Tony Jiminez does not sound like type of man who is easily 'replaced' against his wishes. On the contrary Prothero is their appointment.

Apparently Nike are trying to divulge themselves of the Umbro brand, so there might be someting in that?
Hopefully things will become clearer sooner rather than later
the senior club management / owners are just doing what is normal in any business when they take over, seeing how things are then bringing in people they know to do things better/differently.
the same thing is happening at my workplace with a new director due to take over in a month or so but is stepping up going to meetings to see who people are and people are going to leave/move because of it.
nothing will change or improve if changes don't happen, and despite the success on the field, i don't get the impression off the field things are run quite so well. at least it seems thats what the big boys think anyway.
If you're in situ how does the hierarchy work day to day? Assuming Michael Slater/Tony Jimenez are not actually there, and Mr Protheroe is supposedly only there one day a week, where does the buck stop on the actual premises? Do you save up all the cheques to be signed, and decisions to be made and finalised for one day per week? What happens if there is some kind of situation requiring an immediate decision? Is it all done by telephone? If the grande fromage isn't around how do they monitor the work of the staff?
Is Richard Murray the last of the old guard remaining? Can't imagine he's happy with what's happening. But what do I know. (and I genuinely don't have any insight. That wasn't a tease).

I agree with the first two paragraphs it would happen if this was a 'normal' business.
It's pretty strange to replace a CEO of any business with one that will work only 1 day a week?
Peter Varney and Steve Kavanagh were the "senior club management"
Speaking generally about any business, it is one thing to make changes at middle management level, but quite another to remove or lose the two most experienced and senior business managers, especially in the run up to the new season.
I do not understand exactly why these two have left, but I am not happy that they have gone, nor will I be until I see whether they are effectively replaced by Prothero, who will presumably need senior level management help too.Maybe that will happen, and the new management team will be good. However at the very least, senior managers need time to get to know a business and their role in it.
I am not advocating panic, but I am warning against complacency. Complacency has been the biggest enemy of Charlton fans and football fans everywhere..but I know you don't much care for history lessons
Statement says he will be bringing in an executive and senior management team. That hardly suggests there will be no one to run the business day to day.
Could it be that Prothero is a 'front man' for possible new investors and has been brought into the club on their behalf to perform a root and branch overview of the club structure (including management)? I would guess that any new 'major' investors would want to ensure that the management team in place are the best group of individuals to take the club forward.
Could even see Prothero replace Slater as Chairman in the not too distant future if the above scenario is correct
Pure guess work on my part and see no reason to panic over this announcement.
