Churchouse and Jacobsen were a class apart. Shoo-ins for every all time worst side me and my mates put together over a 30 year period. Tony Towner slaughtered us when he played for Rotherham but was truly abysmal for us - he couldn't seem to get the ball off the deck. Paul Bacon was pretty poor as well.
Going a bit obscure here, we had a bloke on loan called Peter O'Sullevan who had a good career elsewhere but was hopeless in a red shirt. I actually thought Racon was bloody useless as well, despite everyone telling me he was a genius (apart from Bolloxbolder who was er, never convinced).
O'Sullivan came from Brighton didn't he? I only remember him playing once but he was so bad it stuck in the memory. Early 80s - Mountfield, I think his name was. Pretty poor - played in the team that lost 7-0 at Brighton.
To be factual O'Sullivan actually came from Fulham on loan although it is true that his best days were at the Goldstone where he even won a few Welsh International Caps. He was an instrumental part of their team who reached the top flight and played over 400 games for them .
He was a signing I was actually quite excited about based on his previous exploits against us with the Seagulls .
By the time he came to us by his own admission his legs had gone.
Another vote for Paul Bacon. Really liked Big Fat Pete, was on fire for a few games but it all went down hill after he got sent off against Millwall at the Valley. Peter O'Sullivan was that little Mexican looking guy wasn't he? terrific tash!
Brendan O'Connell - tried so hard but just couldn't do it. Got so many chances to play too. David Campbell - couldn't see that he had any good attributes at all (when he played for us). Jimmy Loveridge - came with a decent reputation, played about 7 games and did nothing in any of them. Tony Towner - a couple of decent goals (including a far post header v Leeds) and one good cross at Sheff Utd for Flanagan...and that was his lot.
I remember being quite excited about Alan Davies coming on loan from Manchester Utd and I was at that Shrewsbury game. Didn't he commit suicide a few years ago?
PS: Steve Gritt wasn't too clever either but did have a few decent games/goals (mind you, he did play about 5000 games!)
Ah Yes, I remember: we had to join something called the Robins club (or something similar) for each game as under the Sunday observance laws they couldn't charge entrance money in the usual way. Don't recall too many turning up for those games
