  • Do they get tickets to home and away games with expenses at least?
  • Just to be clear Ken... I'm not suggesting that my experiences should be accepted or should be the done thing! (as the tone of your reply sounds like you think I'm condoning it... couldn't be further from the truth).
No Probs Leaburn, just checked out Felix a fellow art student like myself, made a cool 2.8 billion in 2000..... and blew by his own account over 100 million dollars on drugs and woman, but he did plant a new forest.( ......boy where did I go wrong?) I am probably just jealous of the guy.
I wonder if he wants to buy a football club... now there is a thought

  • was you paid then when you did a weekly column for the Bexley Times website ?
It should be "were you paid" ; -)

No I wasn't but that was because it was part of the SD role.

I certainly got paid for the column in the programme wot I wrote.

I agree that it is great experience and if people want to do it than, as I said, good luck, but I still think Shoot and a lot of other media outlets take the piss. Yes, writing a blog can be great fun but producing 300 to 400 words on demand about a different aspect of the same club isn't as easy as it sounds.

And if the OP is such a Charlton fan why doesn't he do it? Unless he says the same thing on every site he visits.
  • I'm with Henry and Legal. If it's worth printing, it's worth paying for; no excuses.

There's a massive difference between Shoot and Charlton life. We're all here because we love it and the audience, give or take a few lurkers, is made up of the same people that write here. Shoot on the other hand is looking to pad a few pages out on the cheap that they'll expect other people to pay for. They should hang their heads, the dirty money grabbing tykes.
  • I'm just pleased that Shoot want to feature a Charlton blog.

And it sounds like a fabulous opportunity. The guys that give up there time to do Charlton Live I'm sure don't get paid a penny (if they do I want my job back!)

On our final season in the Premiership I was Charlton's pet fan for BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, this often meant me having to hot foot it to the west end at 2 hours notice to do recorded interviews, did I get paid or even expenses covered? Of course not but I was combining my major interests and loving it!
  • I would love to do it!
  • I can do it every week no problem.
Let me seriously think about this we need 300 words about Charlton
Come on you Reds repeated 30 times...come on you Addicks repeated 30 times and Charlton, Charlton repeated 30 times = 300 words.
    Cracked it
Where do i send my application form???

I wouldn't write anything for free for a site that I didn't have any stake in. By that I mean, many great articles are written by Lifers for publication here and no one is financially rewarded. But those that have written things are part of the community and they are making their contribution, as are those that read and provide comment. Therein is the reward, so to speak. I can understand that, and I think that is fair. This is a platform and we're all contributing to it. It is what we make it.

Were I to write for another site, I'd expect at least a link back to my own site as a "reward". That is useful and a part of the economy of the web.

But there is something a little different about popping into a Forum and soliciting unpaid content/labour from random supporters for a site that is capable of generating a fair income. There has to be a little more to it than being able to say you do it. Otherwise, take thirty seconds to create your own blog on a network like Blogger, work hard on good content and link to it here, the largest concentration of "functioning Addicks" online. Or submIf you're going to provide content to anyone, make sure they at least link back to your site or info. so that whenever you inevitably stop, or decide you want to carry on somewhere else, your audience can follow.

I think it's a matter of your aims and the particular site and, thus, audience you're being asked to provide for. It may be an opportunity, but weigh up carefully the reward, whatever that may be.
  • I Just a got an inbox from tyler (bloke who offered the opening) and its been taken.
  • Someone has now been given the blog.
Thanks to all you that messaged me and sorry for the blunt response (Busy at the moment).

Only trying to give young writers the chance to talk about their team and have their name associated with Shoot.
I WAS writing the blog for the last two years (while at uni) but now run the website (on my own. we ARE NOT a big money making machine).
We make NOTHING from the website anyway so keep your hair on and don't comment until you know the facts.
I wanted to be a sports journalist since I was 13. However, if you're a young writer (or any writer) you want to get your name out there as much as possible. This is what I'm giving someone the opportunity to do.
They can link it back to their blogs etc (we have no problem with that) they have done it so should be rewarded.
Also It's only online too!! not printed in a magazine....
Don't get some replys. Trying to help writers and get stupid comments and I'm an Addick ha.
Some of you could have wrote a blog in the time it took to write some of the dribble I have read.
Chill out guys, go take a holiday or at least leave the house, and lets have a good season!
Love a fellow Charlton fan (counting down the days till i hear some of you shouting nonsense in the covered end next season).

The grammar here is very poor for someone who went to uni.
  • That was pissy, don't know why I wrote that.
  • ha tbh mate i couldn't be arsed to respond in a grammatical fashion and it's not important on a forum.

Anyway to the person who said "I'm probably a massive fan of every club" well...... My grandad was a Charlton fan and along with my Dad he used to attend games on the big terrace in the 60's (a women in one of the houses used to dish pout tea). They also both had a season ticket at Selhurst Park and Upton Park. I attended my first game when I was 6 – a 0-1 loss to Ipswich in the Carling Cup. Since then i have had a season ticket for 9-10 years and only stopped owning one last season (I must be unlucky) due to other commitments. I have also been a mascot when I was younger on two occasions. My Dad is also in the north upper this year and will be attending as much as possible. I didn't really need to give u an explanation but I did coz it annoys we that u question my support. I prob have more Charlton history in my family than many of you (sorry to those who have more, as I know there will be many too). If you need proof of any of the above then I would be happy to provide. However, I'm sure not even you are sad enough to want that.

    Good night and god bless.

    COYR!
  • You don't have to explain yourself mate.....you could have come on here offering free money and blow jobs and people would still find the negative!
  • ha tbh mate i couldn't be arsed to respond in a grammatical fashion and it's not important on a forum.
    Oh right.

How does that logic work then?

Possibly the worst argument I have ever seen used on these boards. I especially like the way that you've emphasised that you, "couldn't be arsed" by deliberately typing everything lower case. Your original post looked nothing like that.
  • Can't believe how much stick a fellow charlton fan is getting here.

    Embarrassing

I thought it looked suspicious when I checked when he joined CL. The guy has gone to some lengths to explain his history with CAFC and is now getting stick for asking Fans to write about what they are fanatical about. I have no knowledge of Shoot apart from boyhood memories so no idea how much money they may make. Perhaps the first post could have been more informative but is there really any need to give the bloke more grief?
  • He's an outsider !

    Agree with this!

    Drop it out @Stig ffs

Agreed, up to other people if they wanted to write blogs for free.

    Exactly what I thought

There a thread on not606 accusing this site of this kind of shit
We are not exactly helping dispel the myth of being arseholes

I'd love to have a regular feature online about the club I love and doubt I'm alone in that

Glad the football kicks off again today - we can concentrate on slagging off the players again without sniping at each other
  • I wonder if the blogger will also become a blagger? They can say (truthfully) that they are working for a football publication as a journo and get free admission to matches, a prime seat at the front of the West Stand Upper, a free bottle of CAFC branded water, a programme and a printed team sheet. Then there's the post-match interviews to attend. Maybe they'll even get to negotiate the potholes in the car park!
  • Tricky one this.

Good to offer opportunities to new writers but if they can't write no-one will read it anyway so it depends on their talent.

Also fear that once as a professional writer you write for free you attach a value to your writing (zero) and so does your editor.

I have a done free blogs for Sky and enjoyed it and had good feedback plus a few death threats but in the end it dries up if there is no value attached to it.

I have to admit on the subject of spelling/grammar that I was wincing at the (not unlikely) prospect of the Shoot guy picking one of our CL friends who is less familiar with the English language. In the nicest possible way, please don't let people think our club is supported by illiterate fucktards obsessed with apostrophes.
