If we paid £250k for Darren Ambrose today people would be up in arms.
no way , it would be a marker that this 'board' mean business and would furthermore squash you and all your mates silly rumours about the steady rock that is Charlton Athletic Football Club

So that's Scannell and Ambrose gone, and Clyne likely to go to Southampton. Arguably Palace's best 3 players gone/going.
Erm. No. Scanner barely played last season, it was obvious he was going to leave and DF didn't rate him as he had not developed. Clyne, a superb player yes, one of the best, but as he didn't sign a contract, we all knew he was out. Ambrose, great one game, missing the next 8. The fact he was top corer said more about our strikers than him.
Our three best players last season were Jonny Parr, Speroni and Jedi over the course of the campaign. Zaha, whilst an exceptional talent, was overused and lacked the presence in some games towards the end of e season.
We are selling him because he is in the last year of his contract, because in order for Dougie to buy in the manner being rumoured he has to sell to partially finance deals or free up wage bill and also, I suspect, because, last season, other than the goal at Old Trafford, his contribution was minimal.
And at least we are getting some cash for him and this sales represents a transfer trading profit for us.
I personally can't stand the bloke, but I thought you lot loved him?
Where did I say I didn't respect the guy? I do, but his contribution was shocking from January on last season. Looked like he really couldn't bothered in a series of games. I am quite happy for him to move on before this became a consistent theme a few yeas and it spoiled our memories of him.

is that the same DF that rewarded his 'non-development' with a 4 and a half year contract in september 2011?

Erm, yes and so what? He gave him a chance to prove himself last season and he couldn't. Scanner has potential, that is not in doubt. The problem is the end product which has been very disappointing.
You know an awful lot about us. Why the obsession? I really cannot see what you're getting at with this smart mouth comment.

Matt you stick with watching that shit week in week out. You clearly have lost three of your key players which I'm glad. Lie all you like. You cant handle the truth!! We look forward to 6 points against the scum next year.
To be fair my Palace supporting mate has always said the same most Charlton fans did about Ambrose, if he does not score he does nothing, light weight, powder puff....Palace fans liked him more than us cause he scored a few more for them but generally he is pony and Birmingham will find that out soon enough. I would not take him back on a Free let alone spend money on him.
Sadly i think Palace may have a good season this year...still think we will finish higher though and have money on that.
Ambrose is still only 28 and used properly "in the hole", as Curbs did for a short while, has something to offer.
His problem towards the end of his time at Charlton was that the rest of the midfield were as lightweight as he was and his mincing style attracted the attention of the boo boys.
Football is a team game and all about the right blend. Ambrose needed robust midfielders alongside him to flourish and Palace seemed to realise that as I'm sure Birmingham will.
I'm sure you are right Len. I found him such a frustrating player; clearly talented and creative but lacking the presence and drive to dominate. When we needed a creative fulcrum we got Darren, as you say, "mincing" around on the periphery.

Ha Ha Ha.......Mincing about on the periphery..........Love it! Very true. Underperformed massively. For me, probably the most frustrating/disappointing player once he came to us. 3 others that fitted into this category were Ralph Milne, Rommedhal and Jimmy Floyd Piggybank

Better that it's in a Brum shirt than a Glazier one I guess.
