  • Very good signing in my opinion. Just hope it isn't as a replacement for sollly. 2 signings today. Good sign or a smokescreen??
  • Can't believe how much he looks like this fella from Jackass

    Party Boy signs for Charlton
Cheap kit and training wear. Good for the cost cutting exercise.

  • From what CP has said it doesn't sound like Solly is going anywhere.

Just for anyone who needs the OS link: http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2836333,00.html?

A good and a typical SCP signing. It'll be interesting to see where SCP plays him because I can't see us spending 400K on a back up player and he is clearly versatile so who knows.
  • Emmmmmmmm, reading that I am not so sure, he looks a good signing but it concerns me, I will be a very happy man if Solly is in the shirt come Birmingham away
  • sorry if i missed it but is the 400k figure official? if no where is it from?

i would presume if not solly then he would be playing in the position of right wing replacing wagstaf.
  • The "fierce competition" was from Peterborough. Not too far from Stevenage and he could have gone with a midfield team-mate, so it's good he chose us.

Peterborough and us both apparently had bids turned down for less than 400K or thereabouts so I took it that we upped ours to 400k. The official figure is undisclosed.
  • It's believed to be a fee in the region of £400k. These things are always subject to clauses and instalments after an initial down payment. He's a good player who was under contract so I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere below or above the £250k-£400k bracket

  • good signing :) pleased with that
  • He was one of the stand out league one players for me- really was impressed at the Stevenage away game - A very decent signing. It only makes me more confused in relation to the rumours - Let's see what happens next but this is a positive - a big one!
  • cheers splodge & A4L

    Helps with Stevenage's cash flow.
  • we are developing a way of turning these sort of players into good players with the right training under SCP so very hopeful this will be another in our ever growing list
  • I reckon that as Waggy can play both sides (to an extent), finished the season strongly and is probably on less than Green, it would be Green to go. Could be either though. Or neither if it is more about depth, competition and freeing others up for different systems.
Wow Splodge, I don't think there's a base that you didn't cover here. You could be right, you could be wrong....you could be both or neither!

  • He's certainly a grafter, and was a big part of Stevenage's win at their place. Could well find himself part of a 5 man midfield for tricky away games, not necessarily as the wide man. Haven't seen him enough to judge the final ball that seems to be causing some concern if he's in an advanced position.

Since the fee seems to be something approaching 400k, Chrissy's comments re. his playing right back may not augur well, but only if some of the concerns expressed on here this week prove well-founded. If he really is just adding to what's already a strong determined squad, then good news. Welcome back Lawrie.
  • Would be a good signing imo, impressed me in the playoff games, had a brilliant work rate. Some people bored by this signing is comical honestly, first people moan of no signings, then moan when we do sign someone that its boring lol.

A very good point. You can never please some people...
  • Are those training tops meant to say "Andrews Sykes" as opposed to "Andrew Sykes"?

I'm waiting to heat that Messi, Ronaldo and Pirlo were all released by our youth team, and that we're buying them back...
  • always exciting to have new signing and i'm delighted we beat off competition from other clubs... but spending £400k on second right back seems very strange and totally inconsistent with
    the rumours.

  • Well their website is andrews-sykes.com, so I'm assuming Andrews Sykes is correct, it's two surnames, rather than one full name.

Well sadly it can't now be Eric Sykes.
  • Welcome back Lawrie....was he the chap that went to private school - not really important, just remember one of our ex youth players did and it was made out to be quite a big thing at the time cause it was so rare, for some reason I have a feeling it was him.

I take it back. Powell has confirmed he sees him as a right back
Powell said that he saw Haynes as more of a striker but has played more on the right to be honest, so Wilson might end up on the wing. Good signing though.

Not if we sell another right back for £400k +
  • CP:

"I know he's played a lot at right midfield, but I see him as a right-back to challenge Chris [Solly] and he comes into the mix."
Sounds like Solly is staying put hopefully. Million other things CP could have said about the signing otherwise.

  • Happy with this, he's a good player. Hope it's not to replace solly but it seems odd he'd sign to sit on the bench, despite what Powell says.

Good signing don't really understand peoPle who are underwhelmed, it's what we have to do take the best from league one, hungry players, if we got to the prem you would then take the best Of the championship, it's the way to go!

Yes he was - Millfield in Somerset, I believe. And welcome back Lawrie

I'm very happy too - if we need two players in every position & we currently don't have anyone really challenging Solly for that right back spot - what kind of player do we sign? i think it's great that CP is bringing in quality players to challenge for positions that might otherwise seem to be nailed down

nobody knows for sure the money situation, but 400k-ish in todays market for a good player from a lower league side makes sense to me
