Finally got around to The Day of the Jackal. Half way in and I’m hugely disappointed. It just reminds me of all the reasons we never watch police/secret service stuff. It’s just so full of inconsistency. God knows what people in firearms must think of it 😳 I know there has to be a level of artistic license but this is way out there. Don’t think it helps that the two main characters are totally unbelievable imho. I’ll watch it until the end now I know who Noah is (I like him as an actor & am really hoping he can save it).
Really makes me realise how good The Wire was. That was bang on the money for realism.
Said it earlier on here, Eddie Redmayne is a shit actor.
also didn't care at all about the MI5 woman's family life or the scenes involving the Jackals family really.
I thought Day of the Jackal was pretty good. But what I really liked was:
that they made the M15 woman so dislikeable a character. Brave choice. I'm totally fed up with TV & Film condescendingly portraying minorites as potential saints that only if they werent so held back by society they would be achieving great things. She came across as selfish, arrogant, irresponsible, dangerous and an all round pain in the arse and the program was all the better for it.
I also think it is wrong to have minorities in historical dramas or in positions or scenarios that just would not have happened.
I think it is far better that people ask why were there was no one of.......and then people can understand what actually it was really like before and what has happened/changed since - for better, for worse
I just don't 'get' 'What we do in the shadows'. It's the sort of thing I'd usually find funny, and Kayvan Novak is a genius, but whether it's because I think Matt Berry's as funny as piles or there's another reason, I just can't get into it. I've tried three or four times now and not laughed once. Anyone else tried it and think it's shit?

Everything about this show I should like - Flight of the conchord and Tahiki Watiti directing, showrunning and writing - Novak, Berry and Dimitriou - The film was superb
I just can't get past watching 1 or 2 episodes and then giving up again.
Seems like a hit in the US as well, so I thought it was just me.

All in all I like it, the final season was a but of a slog though. The original film was definitely better.

Phew! Was beginning to think it was just me! Mates all look at me like I've just beamed down from space when I tell them I think it's shit.
I really like What we do in the shadows, though more recent series are firmly up their own backsides, and not as funny as they think they are. First few series are superb. The question is probably whether or not you like the one character that Matt Berry always plays... Cracks me up, but fair enough if he doesn't.

What we do in the shadows was a class film, and like Leroy a massive fan of Kayvan Novak. Matt Berry I'm not quite as hardline with. I liked the occasional toast of London episode even but not as much as anyone else I know who's watched it. He has a schtick I suppose and it works for the masses with him.
I've found the series of what we do in the shadows I got distracted watching so gave up midday through the first season.
I've discovered Crime, it was on Britbox as its premier feature I'd guess whenever that launched. Thats decent, really strong cast and Dougray Scott is acting his chops off, I love the decision to go with real guttural Scottish for the dialect as per the way Irvine Welshs books are written. Just started the second season of that
similar to 1883 - the early series of Yellowstone if you have seen that one
Yellowstone worth watching then given that I loved American Primeval ?
It follows 3 different timelines. We watched it as they came out so started with the modern day then 1883 then 1923. Then back to the modern one as more seasons added. Presume you would watch them in chronological order now
Loved them all especially 1883. Haven’t finished the new series yet as lost slight interest but maybe that’s just us. Well worth a watch. Some great acting
I did the first couple of seasons of Yellowstone and then was doing an episode if 1883 then an episode of Yellowstone, that worked well and reminded me of how the twain were linked
For me Yellowstone is the primo, then 1883 then 1923 but now Spencer is on the board that will get a lot better. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are excellent and Timothy Dalton is a class baddy. Jerome Flynn does a hilarious Jockie accent

Its very dark, its Irvine Welsh after all
Crime is very good. Gets better in series 2 as well. Interestingly they missed a huge chunk of the book out of the series (the time he spends in Miami) so wonder whether there will be a separate series which looks at that.
The new book is also in my pile of "to be read" hopefully that will be as good.
Another shout out for SAS Rogue Heros. Watched it back to front as Mrs SB was already in season 2. Excellent stuff.
Not getting on with the most recent series of Shetland. Nothing to do with the change of character as Ashley Jensen is excellent. It’s just that the storyline is utter bonkers. Lasted two episodes. Served its time methinks. ‘
Caught up with both seasons of The Cockfields on IPlayer. Only watched as it’s set on the Isle of Wight. Light hearted fun with stellar cast but, location aside,it’s pretty meh.
Night Agent. Quite enjoying this one on Netflix. A bit ham but good knockabout spy/special agent nonsense.
Not new, a couple of Welsh cops shows from the 2010s on iPlayer, Hinterland and Hidden .. superbly acted, BUT mostly very grim and humourless, a couple are almost x rated horror stories. I enjoyed them

Meh, you’re only saying that because you also keep a bread knife in the toilet….
