A ridiculous sacking in my opinion. If Kenny only gets 15 months what's to think the next guy will get more than a year unless he gets top 4. Can't think of one decent candidate who might take the job, except possibly Martin O'Neil.
Who is going to choose the next manager. THere is no senior person at Liverpool who knows anything about football now
so, if one were to be an up an coming manager, how would one apply for this position? are all football managers post application done by who you know? Posted on job centre plus maybe?
As I said on the other Dalglish thread a few months back it is a bit harsh blaming him for all the expensive flops, Commoli would have had a big say in the signings. Having said that the poor league position and the distasteful Suarez affair he is rightly sacked.
AVB in line for the job, what an amazing story that would be. Also whilst on the liverpool topic well done to shelvey for scoring his first against chelsea last week
So this time next week we could have the ludicrous situation that the two main cup winners in England are out of a job, while the guy who failed at Chelsea, and brought Chelsea to a point of player revolt being citied as the new Liverpool manager. Meanwhile Keane carries on with his added pay rise bringing a once Prem winning Championship side down to the Championship, for a bunch of chicken farmers..... Not that I give a toss either way, and they say fans are unrealistic.........
Liverpool fans pissing & moaning about this because Kenny is a Legend but the results have been poor and he royally screwed up the Suarez issue. Re the press, he may have got away with his arrogance when a manager shortly after his playing career but football has moved on and he hasn't /couldn't.
This is a sign of intent from the LFC board, 8th & a Cup is no good. The fans should like what's happening.
Looking forward to the Liverpool fans screaming for Guardiola/Mourhino etc etc because 'they are a massive club'. Delusions of grandeur, they were a massive club and have a million miles (or a billion ££'s) to go before the success 'they deserve' comes back.
Can't believe how many Liverpool fans are saying it doesn;t make sense etc - he spent £120m odd, almost all of it very badly, and finished lower than they have for decades. What doesn't make sense about the owners not trusting him for next season and beyond?
By appointing Kenny, they were only applying a sticking plaster - sticking with him for last season was clearly going backwards, and that is how it has turned out.
They would do well to remember why Benitez got the tin-tack; if they appoint him again, they will only go further backward than they are now!
Time to stop looking back and enter a new era - Martinez would be a great appointment, I think. Some may not be happy, and I disagree with you Shamkat, I think that they are the dictionary definition of a genuine 'massive' club; but they need to be bold and renew themselves in order to achieve success in my opinion.
If they don't consider Martinez for the job they are mad but I suspect they'll go for someone with a bigger profile who end up being replaced in another 18 months. His teams always try to play good football and over achieve given the resources available. Liked and respected by the English press and no one seems to ever have a bad word to say about the bloke. For Martinez read Powelly in 4-5 years, maybe sooner...
To meet this points to what a great manager Ferguson is love him or hate him. Stood the test of time and adapted to meet the changes as the game elvoved over the last 25 years where others like Kenny and George graham etc have failed to do so.
To think they were close to giving him the sack in his first season too.
I'm not sure why everyone thinks Martinez is such a good manager really. decent maybe and certaily a decenty bloke. But for 3/4 of the last season wigan were the worst team in the prem. So a run of 10 games makes him a great manager? Still very unproven for me. So how does Curbs rate on this scale for what he achieved. I can't understand Liverpool. Kenny is a proven manager. league form was poor but he did take a trophy to Anfield for the first time in years. The £120m figure people talk of only hald the truth as 2/3 of that was recouped on sales. The truth is without champions league footaball you lose players (Torres, merieles and cole) and have to overpay what you buy. A relaistic finish for liverpool was probably 5th or 6th so yes this is disapoiting for them butr had the consolation of 2 cup finals.
Martinez is not a big enough name for such a HUGE club. the fans will get straight on his back if they lose a game, singing for king kenny to come back. though kenny spent a load of money whether recouped by sales or not on player who have not been successful. Liverpool have a load of average players. whoever goes in there it will be a struggle to get into the top 6. unless money spent.

Compare with Chris Powell's demeanor, the feel good factor and momentum that he is generating.

I can see the dressing room now.
"Mr Suarez, my office please."
