Clubs relegated to second tier

So Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves are among our opponents next season. Should we be fearing any of them?

Blackburn look like a club in meltdown, Bolton are apparently tens of millions in debt, and Wolves' defence would look leaky in the Sunday Schools league. Wolves might, however, be best placed to retain their better players so, with a rebuilt defence, might they be the strongest of the three?

  • Fair summary gilbert
  • Originally wanted QPR down for another local derby but as someone pointed out on another thread Fernandes will be bunging loads of cash into them and theyd be a tough proposition.

Fancy us against anyone next season now.
  • If the Venky's and Kean are still at Blackburn, not sure they'll be pulling up any trees.

Bolton have debt's but a really good manager imho and maybe if they keep a few of the better players, they'll be challenging.

Wolves- depends on the impact the manager has, they'll lose Jarvis and Fletcher but are financially well placed and imagine they'll start as favourites.
  • Blackburn may have new owners and wolves' owners are very stubborn so I don't expect us to have an easy ride from any of them. Bolton can fuck off, just read some people trying the trip next year to "teams like charlton".
  • Bolton and Blackburn are a pain to get to. Would have preferred Rangers in div 2.
  • Would love us to smash Blackburn, as payback for the money I spent on "operation Ewood".
  • I read that Bolton have 14 players out of contract come July..............major rebuilding needed so no real threat there.
  • I guess our next step up a level means we have to take 6 points off the likes of Bolton. It will have to be done.
  • These were the three teams I would pick to be honest. I think Gilbert summed it up pretty well.

I suppose that Kean probably will get the tin tack and the Venkies will appoint somebody with a bit more nous than Steve - not difficult frankly even if you put 100 out of work managers names in a hat and pulled one out at random. That may make Blackburn a better prospect for a swift return. Bolton could do a Charlton and keep on falling. Wolves will consolidate and be a force in a couple of seasons time imho.
  • It's why the championship is such a topsy turvey league. Teams that have dropped down in turmoil. Clubs that have dropped down years previous still in turmoil. Teams that have given it a good go,thrown money at it but didn't go up back in turmoil.
We will probably be in a healthier position than the majority of teams in that league.Just as Norwich & Southampton were.

  • For all the reasons above i'm quietly confident for next season. Don't want to start getting too cocky though as the beautiful game has a habit of coming back to bite you in the arse.
  • From a personal viewpoint couldn't be much better as if these away fixtures fall on Saturday I can do all three from Scotland easily!
  • I've really enjoyed my northern trips watching Charlton this season so I'm not too disapponted we are going to Bolton and Blackburn
  • Brilliant - two local games and Wolves is easy to reach.
  • As usual those two aways are bound to crop up in late april.
  • Relegated clubs, West ham, Blackpool, and Birmingham have shown up well this season.
  • The relegated clubs tend to have a go at getting back even if they are skint. The problem is the players that might want away - we'll have to see what happens in the summer but better to be on an up as we are than on a down.
  • Nothing to fear in my view. QPR would obviously have been an easier trip but a good friend of mine is a rangers fan so pleased for him that they stayed up. Quietly confident we can do well next season.
  • Got to remember that Blackburn and Bolton, like us, have multiple years of PL in their system - hard to shake that out in a short time as we found.

But their parachute money is greater than ours was and lasts longer, still going to be hard for them but not quite the doomsday scenario we had, plus we had mortgaged our future transfer budget on Dowies follies

  • Blackburn are in free fall and I can see them losing their best players very easily next season so they will struggle. I reckon Bolton and Wolves will be able to challenge for promotion.
  • Who knows how they'll do. New managers, takeovers etc can change so much.

All I know is we'll be ok. How we do will depend on how well we strengthen the squad.
  • Generally of the three teams coming down, at least one has a hangover (this season is an exception). If any of them have dodgy starts then it may be hard for them to recover, the losing mentality is a hard one to shake off. Expect at least one to struggle to meet fans expectations.
  • Can't wait for Bolton away on a wet Tuesday night in February.

    Just like our Prem days.
  • Wolves-playoffs
    Bolton-just outside
    Blackburn-midtable
  • Wolves were/are a good championship club, without McCarthy they could be anything though.
  • Can see Blackburn sliding through to League One within the next 2 seasons, especially if Venky's remain in power. None of us know what the hell is happening behind the scenes but with the few leaks that have been coming out it seems that they are in a real mess.

Bolton in huge debt, will try and offload as many as poss. So rich pickings for the newly promoted teams. They'll do well though if they keep Coyle. Can see them challenging.

Wolves, an unknown takes over so it will be intersting to see who he brings in. I can se parallels with Spurs employing Christian Gross. Think Wolves will struggle again.

    Looks like him as well

I think this could be a good division for us next season.Blackburn ,Bolton and Wolves are similar sized clubs to us and their parachute payments will be eaten up by high salaries or in Wolves's case ground redevlopment costs.

In some ways I wanted QPR to come down as that would have been a good away game and another team who could have brought a good away following to fill the Valley ,but Fernandes will bank roll them and i think they would have bounced straight back up .

Its a similar dilemma to Saturday as the Hammers will be a lot more competitive on paper than Blackpool next season . West Ham will be back up at some stage and would be more of a threat than Blackpool ,but what a couple of exciting derby games we could have .
  • I'm still hoping that with QPR staying up we can buy Ephraim
