Why?

edited May 2012 in General Charlton
I know that every time you post something relevant the same couple of idiots appear with smartarse remarks. However, so that those of us not in the inner circle can understand, can someone explain why the thread reagarding someone ripping people off has been closed? Seems too important as far as I am concerned. Lots of crap allowed to run on, but this thread stopped? This forum was used to defraud people, the thread should be allowed to run. Could see nothing on it that was illegal or deframatory. Those that have been conned deserve better.
Or, not being in the circle, am I off the pace?

  • Do not question the masters (or the clique)
  • just asking why? Normally just get a load of smartarse abuse.
  • Maybe send a couple of private messages to those in the inner circle

Alternatively, just like the threads about other ongoing criminal cases, the "powers that be" have decided that they don't want to prejudice any potential investigation by allowing all and sundry to chip in with their views, heresay and unhelpful advice? Especially as the event concerned was actually promoted on here.
  • that sounds reasonable.

Probably this but when, hopefully, this is resolved in a satisfactory matter I'd like to know about it.

  • I had assumed it was because the thread was turning into a vigilante guerrilla discussion.
  • Why was this goalkeeper not paying better attention:

    youtube.com/watch?v=r4bnoMka0SE&feature=related
  • This is advertised as a forum to discuss Charlton athletic, not to debate the rights and wrongs or criminality of someone's actions - clearly I was one who was involved in the discussion and all those involved sought one goal - closure for our fellow Addicks but once people start crossing the line and talking about assaulting people that's clearly something that the site can't desk with - for many reasons
  • That thread did seem to be going round in circles - "take it to the police", "take it to trading standards", "no, tool up and visit him at work", "no, go through official channels", etc, etc.

  • Once a thread goes down the route of "threats", I imagine Admin are obliged to close it. Despite freedom of speech, incitement to violence is a criminal offence.
  • It will be reopened tomorrow masicat once I go.through and delete out all the rubbish regarding tools, violence etc.

It may well be in jest by those posting who are not invoved, but when taken out of context and applied as individual quotes it can appear very different.

No one knows where this issue is going to end up, so silly talk and 'banter' by those not involved can muddy the waters a little.

I'll be able to tidy it up tomorrow. Unfortunately with the latest.version of the forum, I'm not able to act as instantaneously in terms of.moderating as I was in the past.
  • And y should you have to with a young family and a life leave it closed
  • I hope the "fire up the Quattro" comment makes the grade. I haven't even got a Quattro.
  • Got to agree with nla on this. Not sure there is too much to be gained discussing it in detail on here until it's settled imo.
  • If Steve jones goes missing they'll be looking for PL54 and his Quattro !
  • Everything that needed to be said was said - the route to pursue was put forward and the thread descended into nonsense with immature talk of getting tooled up etc... I was amazed it wasn't pulled earlier.
  • Understand. So, any non Charlton related or threads that descend into nonsense to be closed. Its gonna be a long close season.
  • You can't tell the difference between "nonsense" and potentially illegal nonsense ?

I am not so sure. Things can sound very different when read out coldly.
  • If people don't like it moderate your own posts

Don't have things full of swearing

Don't intentionally say things to peopled that will cause offence

If someone is offended then appologise and move on

    Don't offer eachother out

Don't be racist or start racially motivated posts

Don't get to bogged down in politics

  • When you get keyboard warriors spouting crap like

    - Jones is a wrong'un and wants tucking in.
    - If it was my 100 notes I guarandamntee you I'd be waiting outside that Tescos with tools.

Is it any wonder threads get closed? People have lost money and will probably benefit from sensible helpful advise. Not crap like what we have above that is at best, useful to no one, at worst damaging to some.

Has anyone stopped to question why NO ONE AT ALL can get hold of Steve?

Do we know if he's been to work? Do we know if he has been seen since taking the cash?

Not saying for sure but maybe we should be prepared for the worst... It's been a long time afterall.

There are two options in my opinion.

Option 1 he's met an untimely end. Option 2 he was scum and cheated a bunch of fans before doing one...

This I am sure will be a police matter either way.

The threads closed for a just reason and you agreed that here:
    that sounds reasonable.
and I don't see why admin on here should have to filter and edit comments to reopen threads. Keep it closed.

Oh get over yourself for f***s sake. If anybody seriously thinks that was an actual exhortation to violence, they need help. It's the internet - things get said for giggles all the time.
