  • Amazing...
  • were you peering through a gap in the door ???
  • Looks like he was standing by the bar
  • Top class.
  • 'triffic!
  • Just as good second time around!
  • Thanks for that
  • Swoon....
  • When I was in the army, he's the sort of guy I'd want leading us. Go through hell and back knowing he's right there beside you. A true leader..................

  • Speaks very well doesn't he. And he clearly gives a lot of thought in advance to what he's going to say.

    Top man.
  • I love the way he calls the players by their nicknames, Waggy and Jacko. I think it shows that they are more than players to him, team spirit all round.
  • what happened at 4:30 when everyone started laughing?

Bloke came out of nowhere with a potted tree and walked through the room. Plonked it down near Powelly.
  • If there was ever a manager who was as in touch with the supporters of his club as Chris Powell is, I would be very surprised.

This man has what it takes and the support behind him to go on and be the most loved character in the history of this club, if he isn't already.

I could listen to him all night!

To be a little more precise it was a potted Rhododendron bush which was to be presented to Chris .................which it later was.
Not sure exactly who presented it to him and who it was from....I'd had a few too many by then!

  • I love Curbs...But Sir Chris is triple the manager he was IMO. He is Charlton through and through, we are very lucky to have him and the timing of bringing him in was just the right one.

No1 has a bad word to say about Powelly (baring end of last season)

    Great speech top bloke.
  • Superb. Thanks WSS.
  • Truely amazing. The man is pure class!! Thanks for posting that!

Ok, your opinion but hang on.

Powell has done really well this year after a terrible start. He's a great guy and all that but Curbs did it for 15 years, all at a higher level than league 1.

I think Powell could emulate what Curbs did and maybe do even more but so far Curbs is still a long way ahead of his son.

  • Powell is a more likeable guy than Curbs but Powell needs to go a long way to be as successful as Curbs.
  • Thanks for posting WSS, great stuff.

Yes, sure. But inappropriate place for such an injection of ''rationality''. I was choking up listening to the man. As he says in his speech, let us just enjoy a very special feeling and a wonderful, wonderful moment, as good as almost any I can remember as a Charlton fan. And so much more special coming, as he says, after five or six years of pain.
  • Not only a great speaker I feel he really means the words. No BS Top man we are lucky to have him

It was a Thank You gift from us, the supporters to our Main Man as a small token of the love & respect we all have for him.

He initially said he'd put it in his office but when I told him it has to be planted outside, he thought for a few seconds , then said he'd like to put it in the Pierre Bolangi memorial area at Sparrows Lane. What a lovely gesture. The standard rhododendron is called "Red Jack" - the closest I could get to being Charlton related and should have plate sized flowers in a week or so.

Hope it continues to grow and flourish for many years to come like our beloved Club.

  • Lovely touch @Fanny, well done.

    Steady!
  • Not for a moment taking anything away from Curbs, but dare I say it, I feel more love towards CP than I ever did for Curbs.
