If anyone feels like telling the journalist concerned their opinion directly, his email address is n.parker@the-sun.co.uk. I did yesterday. I think that if its possible to give tosspots like him some taste of their own medicine, we should grab the chance. I wrote
"I know that sub-editors write the headline, but in a week when your big boss is talking about contrition for all the many wrong-doings in his empire, are you really proud of yourself for writing this venomous bucket of bile? Were you bullied at school, or did you do the bullying? Do you understand that what the Sun thinks does not equate to what "the people" think? The days when you can even think that are over. In fact you'll probably be looking for a job soon. What goes around comes round, even for Sun journalists"
I don't get this constant bleating, that if you don't read the Sun then you're a hypocrite for watching Sky. Apart from them being owned by the same holding company they are entirely different products, with different approaches, in different media. This is not a thread about whether you like Rupert Murdoch or not, it's about a shoddy attempt to undermine and ridicule a decent man and football manager who has just taken on the toughest job in football.
Unilever is a holding company much like News International that own Marmite and Hellmans. So the fact I hate Hellmans means I shouldn't put marmite on my toast?
Never have bought it and never would.....not my cup of tea one little bit. Find it hard to understand why anyone 'would' buy it to be honest....so, like many, I guess I'll just have to live with that puzzling question till my dying day.
There's a company called Templegate Recoveries Ltd which, as the name implies, deals with "debt recoveries". So I expect he owns that and makes his money out of doing the heavy bit on bookies' debtors! And, if putting one pound on each of his tips for a season (what's that - a total of £1000 of bets? - nets only £61, I'd suggest following his tips was just a waste of time and money. And he's the best there is?!
Was wondering how the enlightened minds on this board would possibly be able to comment on something they are quite obviously superior to and would in no way look at as well PL54.
Do you not see the front pages of other papers when you pick yours up...or see the front page of papers that others are reading on the train/tube....or in the cafe...or in work...or do you not browse the internet & see others talking about it & linking photos of it?
You clearly read the sun.
I read many news papers including the Sun although I mainly view the news on line nowadays. Because of that I am well able to keep my own counsel and form an opinion of the Sun without feeling the need to give yet another crass and offensive headline the time of day on this message board. Does it mean, when I do pick up a copy of the Sun, that it defines me as a person or a particular demographic? No is the answer. I can take most things and leave most things as I feel fit but the general gathering of "hand wringers" on this board whenever this particular publication is mentioned, I find very amusing and predictable and I say so here.

The Sun and BSkyB are totally different entities.
News International (owned by News Corp.) owns 100% of The Sun but News Corp. owns only 39% of BSkyB but would like to own much more - but probably never will now.
In addition, there are plenty of national papers to choose from but for many people in non-Virgin/BT areas (and that's a pretty big chunk of the country) they don't have any choice but to pay for Sky if they want to watch live football.
This of course is the beginning of the media campaign to oust Roy Hodgson...the opening shots if you like. They've obviously decided that this speech issue is as good a place to start as any. The aim being to get into the subconscience of it's football following readership thats he's dim witted and ultimately an embarrassment to the country. If this isn't holted the constant drip effect will eventually take its toll and could see him being forced from the post.
Mind you, such tactics are not new to the media and have proved successful in the past. We've been here before. And the target last time the press launched such a campaign?...Graham `Turnip' Taylor.
great post .. very insightful .. I don't think it's essentially a personal attack on Hodgson per se. ANY manager with any 'achilles heel' would be fair game, except for Redknapp who for some reason is a redtop media luvvie. I will not speculate as to the reasons for this. The 'press' generally seems to consider that the current England side is not of the highest class and that any manager would struggle to put out a decent side capable of playing decent winning football. I think that Hodgson will rise above this and I suspect and hope that he will be a success. I await his squad/team selection with great optimism and expectation.

What link that had with the 2 posts prior I have no idea.

you really think that 'templegate of the Sun' is a part time heavy as well as a racing pundit ? .. I await your next fantasy novel with bated breath .. the termionology used is £61.59 to a £1 stake. I agree, betting on each of his tips would be quite arduous, nevertheless, it would be profitable.
You seem to have veered off the original subject here which was about The Sun's ridiculing of Roy's speech impediment. More than one poster on here took great delight in naming 'Woys' England team,'Gween,Wichards' etc. Ring any bells?
I have told jokes about Jonathan Ross' too on here.
I don't write headlines for a national newspaper though.
True enough. However, you are as accountable for your posts as a writer for a national newspaper is for their headlines.
As an aside,I thought your post concerning Rednapp was pretty much spot on.
i buy the sun, mainly for the fact that 7.30am when im still half asleep and its easy to read when im on the train. I thnik what they wrote about Roy was out of order, but i also think other rags are just as bad with their own agenda. I wouldnt use a newspaper to make a judgement on somebody. In terms of people from CL thinking less of me cos i do buy it, i couldnt really give a shit.
Why not read the Beano? I generally find anyone using the excuse that the Sun is easy to read are simply doing that, using an excuse.
Do you also watch the only way is Essex because you are tired in the evening and it is something easy to watch?

cos the newstand man doesnt sell it....and i watch TOWIE cos its quality
some people on here are in serious danger of disappearing up their own arses
personally i think the Sun have got it completely wrong here in terms of the timing, the topic and them trotting out Jonathan Ross to fight their corner.
there's a difference between a humourous headline (Freddie Starr ate my Hamster/Super Caley go balistic Celtic are atrocious) and deliberately setting out to undermine someone which is what I think they're attempting to do with Hodgson, bordering on malicious.

You could save your pennies that you spend on the Sun, read the free metro newspaper and actually pay for your train journey instead? But again, I suppose you couldn't give a shit about everyone that pays for the space you take up reading your paper on the train.
Broadening the debate only slightly but for me the real menace in the crass headline is that journalists with a decent education cant think beyond what they write to see the potential harm it will cause. I bet there are no end of kids in playgrounds up and down the country with Rhotism or perhaps a stammer that are chuffed that the biggest selling newspaper in the country find it acceptable to ridicule someone with a speech impediment therefore legitimising and encouraging the ridicule of others. What next. Gimpy people with a club foot ? Blind bastards bumping into everything ? Take the piss out of the deaf because they can't hear you anyway? Just my opinion but anyone that can't see the harm in that headline is just not worth my consideration. Morons.

Accountable to whom? I am not representing anyone but myself. A joke on a forum like this is simply that. A banner headline on the front page of the biggest selling newspaper in the country is quite different. As others have said it is just the start of their obvious campaign to undermine Hodgson at every opportunity. Just to get all my skeletons out I freely admit that in my past I have told and laughed at jokes that some people may find sexist/racist/in poor taste etc. I expect the majority of people have. I expect I'll do it again too.

is that for real????, I buy the Sun cause I want to (and yes it's an easy read with a little bit about everything), make no apologies for doing so.
For what it's worth I didn't agree with their headline about Hodgson

you don't use the newspaper someone buys to judge someone, but you are judging me on my thread by saying I'm up my own arse for commenting on your travelling on a free train every day that everyone else pays for. Rightio.
Whilst I no longer would ever dream of buying The Sun (their printing of British troops photos ended that) it's a little harsh to attack others who haven't seen the light yet.
I sometimes buy The Sun but not normally as there are simply loads of copies around in my office every day. I like it. I couldn't do without Dear Deidre’s Casebook!
I sometimes buy The Sun on a Saturday for the sport preview and the TV mag. it's alright. I can live without it. Takes about 3 minutes to read cover to cover and sometimes I dont actually read the paper bit. I didn't like that headline yesterday though when i saw it in the newstand and did question why i sometimes still buy it.

Oh dear have I really got to explain this? Do you really think that I thought that? It was just - to me anyway - an amusing coincidence that a monicker used by a betting tipster who assists the bookies to aid punters in their single-minded aim of flushing their child benefit down the bog also featured as a name of a debt recovery business. Now, I still don't get the alleged "profit" thing: here's Templegate's current record according to bestbet-online.com: TEMPLEGATE - SUN MONTH RETURN March 2012 -15.7% February 2012 0.7% January 2012 -17.3% December 2011 -7.3% November 2011 -14.5% October 2011 -21.1% September 2011 -13.2% August 2011 -17.1% July 2011 -14.3% June 2011 -12.7% May 2011 -11.0% April 2011 -5.1% OVERALL -12.72% Not good is it? Templegate was actually the worst of seven tipsters analysed. With the Star's guy running him close for the wooden spoon. Interestingly the best (or least bad I should say) two were from the Times and Telegraph with The Times managing an impressive return of minus 6.9% Think I'll stick with shares at least you can put a stop-loss on and keep most of your initial outlay.
Was wondering how the enlightened minds on this board would possibly be able to comment on something they are quite obviously superior to and would in no way look at as well PL54.
I buy the 'Sun' on saturday as Templegate is a top racing tipster and I confine my horse betting to (mostly!) saturdays. I was in Tesco picking up the groceries and whilst there I had a gander at the headlines, a free look through the newspaper racks .. The headline in the 'Sun' caught my eye for it's more than usual crassness and insensitivity. I usually have no beef with the 'Sun', it's a jolly, bullshitting kind of rag and if it goes over the top sometimes in its headlines and editorial, so what, better this than the bland and totally pc approach of the BBC and (say) the Guardian. Murdoch has a right to appoint whoever he likes to his staff and to edit his newspapers, if you don't like what he says and does, then don't buy his product. Sometimes the 'Sun' editors and headline writers get it wrong. The mocking of Hodgson is a prime example. I suspect they are taking the Millwall approach .. everyone is having a go at us, do we give a f**k .. you've all got a new football manager .. f**k you and f**k him. Naughty Mr Sun. Go and stand in the corner
If Templegate is so good, why is he bothering to write for The Sun instead of spending his millions, likewise your good self (unless you are writing that from your beachfront property in Nassau)? "Bland and PC approach", oh you mean reporting facts instead of making stuff up and filling their pages with "news" about non entities. I think you will find the majority of people contributing to this thread don't buy Murdoch's product, and as decent responsible people they are trying to discourage other less well educated people from doing so.
How do you know that Templegate is NOT a millionaire ? .. as for me .. I don't often follow his advice, hence my villa is merely on the Algarve, not Nassau .. bland BBC and Guardian .. soma for the masses, whereas 'the sun' for all its faults is a bit lively .. do you ban sky and other Murdoch products from your, I am sure, classy bar and grill ?
Because he is writing for The Sun. That is what the first sentence was about.
You buy The Sun in order to ignore his advice?
I repeat, I was referring to The Sun. Product, singular. One thing.
Lots of millionaires are still working, that is how they mostly made and are able to retain their millions .. why do you assume that Templegate would retire to a lazy life merely because he may (or may not be) a millionaire ?. And no, I don't buy the 'Sun' to simply ignore his advice, I like to compare and contrast, usually to my disadvantage. And I am pleased that despite your detestation of 'the sun', you do not have similar feelings for the remainder of the Murdoch empire.
Because I am a lazy git Lincs, I wouldn't work another day in my life if I had a million in the bank. LOL
I will try for the fourth time. I am talking about The Sun, only The Sun and nothing but The Sun.
I do not have a problem with Sky Sports, they might irritate me with some of their coverage, but they don't insult, belittle and stir up undeserved trouble like The Sun does.
This thread is not about Murdoch, it is about The Sun. My opinions refer to The Sun.
In case I have not made myself clear, I am referring to the British newspaper called The Sun.
