...was he a cousin of Mike and Steve Gatting ?

And if not, did he have a famous cousin ?

  • Tony Adams I think
  • That's it, ta
  • He was John Chiedozie's brother I believe.

His sisters are Christine Ohorugu and Jennifer Lopez
  • He always reminded me of a Walrus with that belly and moustache.

Bloody good player though, never forget his goal at Highbury in 1989 in the 2-2 draw.

orphaned at an early age and reared by a family of terrapins until the age of 12 whereupon he discovered a skill for football

    Not forgetting Mortimers goal too.
  • Is this the same bloke who scored an absolute belter in the 1981 FA cup final replay? That was definitely the most 'attempted re-creation in the playground' that year.
  • Yes, that was before he was fat and grew a moustache.

I seem to recall a blatant penalty not being given in our favour when Andy Peake (or was it John Humphrey??) virtually had his shirt ripped off his back by a defender when he was clean through on goal, the referee judged it a fair challenge.

    I'm not bitter or anything...

  • Really good player, gloriously shambolic in appearance which added to his charm. He was a good example of Lennies signing policy at the time, decent player, somebody showed faith in, and career re-vitalised.

Yep, he took a bit of time to settle into the team and the first few months he was poor, but from there on he was top drawer.

  • He left us to join a massive club though.

Unfortunately that goal is rarely shown on T.V whilst the Ricky Villa goal from the same game is shown and repeated time and again.
  • Is he the guy who got sent off for spitting against Newcastle?

    No, that was Paul Miller.

  • That was Paul Miller
  • I remember him hitting a belter against Coventry at home. It smacked the inside of one post, flew along the line and hit the other post and came out straight into Steve Ogrizovic's hands

I remember him coming out for the warm-up away to Wimbledon at Plough Lane once (Boxing Day?) wearing a straw sombrero!

It was him - I remember that. Think I've got it on one of those moody Finches videos in the loft somewhere.
  • He hit a screamer to equalise at Goodison a week before the end of the season which helped set up the Battle of the Bridge.

Dead right (about Peake) albeit it was a different game where we got robbed at Highbury - earlier in the same game the ref (Alan Seville?) managed to spot a handball against Humphrey when his arms were virtually by his sides and of course couldn't wait to give a spot kick. A very big Charlton turnout was squished into the teeniest pen on the terraces, whilst Gooners on the other side of the fence were literally lying down on the terraces.
  • I was at the 2-2 game....standing in the Junior Gunners enclosure going ape shit when McKenzie (and Morts) scored. Can't believe that was 23 years ago.

In that brilliant banana yellow away kit too!

Don't forget Arsenal won the League that season and over the two games against us they only outscored us 5-4!
  • I remember that poxy penalty too.
