  • not forgetting that murray wouldn't pay up to sign tim cahill ..... tried to bluff him thinking he wouldn't move up north ....wrong
thought Cahill's missus made him move up north to get away from some bird down The Den he was giving a regular seeing- to (allegedly)

Hadn't heard about that Large....but there 'was' something that happened with his somewhat errant (for want of a better word) brother outside a Bromley mini cab office with a local villain.......I'll say no more other than Tim Cahill was getting flack from all directions re this.
His brother ended up inside I believe and things got a bit hairy in this part of the world for the Cahills....possibly the 'two things' added together(young family and all that), made him look further afield but as I say I had/have no knowledge of what you're suggesting.

I think you've got your info confused here.

I was friends with a girl who was dating the brother so met him a few times. Tim has already got Everton by this point and my understanding was he had "had his way" with a girl and was forced to move north for fear of recriminations from said girls boyfriend. The incidents with his brother which included him ending up inside were later.

That's my undestanding of it anyway.
  • Don't know how anyone can suggest that Dowie would have kept us up. We were comfortably in the relegation zone when he left. I dread to think what he'd have done in the January transfer window if he'd been given any money to spend. Difficult to top spending £4m on Faye and Traore, but I'm sure he'd have found a way.
  • we only signed dowie so murray got one over on the tango man we all know that.... ;-)

wasnt it 4m too on an alcoholic untested French centre half, who couldn't get his head on a high ball from the oppo keeper?
  • I think the problem was not just Dowie, but who we bought prior to that i.e. Marcus Bent (under Curbs) for £2m
  • curbs left because he owed me money for crack

yeah lets ignore i.e Darren Bent

The Parker money wasn't spent that well either...

We had no one developing apart from him, Ambrose and Thomas within the squad, everyone else was over 30 or out of contract.

Murphy had left, Smertin had gone back to Russia, Spector had gone back.

We were left with an aging, poor squad.

11m that Dowie spent wouldn't have bought us a new 'quality' squad that we needed.

Curbs must have had an inkling that the 2006/07 season was going to be very tough.

  • the phrase *done to death* springs to mind

    No Likely, No Lighty

Who now regularly plays in the Champions League (and still wears gloves).

  • Hey guys, I've just heard we've been promoted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wasn't worth £4m up front tho eh..

I'm as certain as I can be that the incident itself took place just about the time that negotiations were underway with us and 'before' he signed for Everton.....the court case etc etc was of course a fair while after he joined them.

Said that Curbs left because Murray wouldn't give him the funds to buy Bullard and Sidwell

  • Lots of honey jars being opened on this thread! :-0

you mean the best centre-back you've never heard of?
  • when i read the continued doubt of some about curbs i am reminded that some of our fans did deserve 3rd tier football

    they couldnt smell the roses
  • funny thing is Charlton fans are always slagged off for saying Curbs had taken us as far as he could but Merv sad that was the exact reason he quit because he felt without the money for the players he wanted he'd got us as far as he could.

Obviously the only weird thing was that he was refused that cash yet £11m was spent by Dowie

The same fans that fail to travel to away games I am sure!

Not sure that this is nothing more than re-writing history to fit their purpose.

As for Bullard and Sidwell, they would have been poor signings in my view.
