Guillem Bauza - this type of thing is nice but hasn't been good enough to keep Hereford in the League
  • I believe Ryan Nelsen was on trial with us at some point and there's Rangers legend Richard Gough although technically he was a youth player
  • Bolanos was quality!

This pre-season we saw Niclas Andersen, Sam Williams, Alexis Honore and some guy called Diaz in Spain.
  • sheff utd had a quality player on trial this year....
  • Antti Niemi
He was on loan, but never played.
  • Ian Harte would have been an incredible signing, amazed we didn't follow that up.

Probably the best taker of free kicks and corners in the entire Football League (yes, including Jackson and Kermorgant).

My memory is that we did try to sign him on a short term three month contract ,but he turned us down and reemergered later that season with Blackpool before the following season linking up with Carlisle .

At the time it looked like a gamble to sign a late 20's early 30's injury prone player.

yh nelsen was, matt holland spoke about it recently
  • There's 2 other internationals I remember seeing play for our reserves on trial, but O can't think of their names.

One played central midfield and was a USA international, who played in the late 90s or so- seem to remember there was something with his registration that meant we weren't able to charge an entry fee for the game he played in (was played at Welling).

The other was a Nigerian centre back that played in the reserve game against Arsenal where around 10,000 people turned up. Mortimer played alongside him and totally outshone him.

That might be because he's been playing for Exeter this season? ;-)
  • Cant for the life of me think what the link is, but didnt we have something to do with Oliver Bierhoff ages back? As in on trial, or almost signed him?

Also, Martin Reuser - ex Ipswich winger.

  • Didn't Bierhoff play against us in the Anglo Italian Cup and apparently his father enquired about a move to us ,I think Reuser was one of those players who was linked with us a number of times but never signed a bit like Julian Gray ,Hayden Mullins and Darren Purse ,I can't remember him actually trialling though.

I think the USA international was Paul Caligiuri
  • Nigerian centre half was emeka efijagua not sure on spelling
  • Emika Ifijiagawa
  • Thanks dazzler
  • I thought we'd actually signed him
  • was flicking through an old programme & noticed that John Barnes actually played for us as a triallist in a behind closed doors friendly before signing, we also had this guy on trial at the time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milton_Coimbra
  • Nicola Berti
    Steve Guppy
    Steve Portway
    Alan Dickens

I saw Morts play CH many times for stiffs and he was more than useful.

  • Here's a question... How many players have been on trial for Charlton and have actually signed for the club afterwards? (Just in light of Coulibaly and Camerling)

How comes he was never picked for Scotland?

Pretty sure Ricardo fuller was on trial back in curbs times, too injury prone apparently

Not sure if he was on trial but he was with us, we brought him over from Jamaica. It was not that he was injury prone but that he had a spinal defect, which resulted in him failing the medical. We paid for him to have a back operation and then kept him on but presumably we did not think he was good enough as we then released him. He subsequently became a journeyman joining Palace, Hearts, Preston and then settled at Stoke before joining us last season.

Simon Church, Bradley Pritchard and Richard Wood off the top of my head

  • A Trialist XI?

    Lee Bowyer
    Dean Chandler
    Ricky Otto
    Carlton Cole
    Sean Newton

There must be more. Can't believe Steve Jones hasn't been in the dock before.
