  • I would be disappointed if we bought solely from league 1 teams if I'm honest
  • blend championship experience with young up and coming players in the lower leagues ritchie at swindon would be a very good signing
  • Beavon (Wycome). Hayter (Doncaster). Vincente (Brighton). Cox (Orient). Varney (Pompey). Also Shelvey on loan.
  • Yes, I'd consider bringing Varney back -some unfinished business with us.
  • I'd have Luke Varney back. Always saw him as a half decent player whose confidence was knocked by playing in a poor team under a poor manager.
  • Very good CM
Left winger, decent enough all round but with some pace
    Promising right back
    Beastly, pacey centre back
Goalscoring striker. Ideally can play with BWP or Yann
    Pacey/skilful or playmaking RM
  • Baffled that so many people want Varney back. His record has been just as poor at the sides he's joined since leaving us.

We have the best team in League One. Why on earth would we want to sign more League One players when we're looking to step up to the next level?

  • LV: neat channel runner who we all liked but I don't think he has ever proved capable of delivering the goods on a regular basis
  • Could we afford Varneys wages ? His decision to go to Portsmouth instead of staying with Blackpool not a footballing decision and has been alluded to by Ian Holloway - he even appeared more than a little amused that it turned out Portsmouth couldn't afford those wages after all. Purely based on football and all other things being equal I would have him back in the Championship with us.

  • 1)bostwick from stevenage
    2)Wordsworth from Colchester
    3)ben-haim Portsmouth
    4)maguire pompey
    5)Boyd Peterbrough
  • Don't know about Varney to be honest. If people are worried about BWP's finishing then they have a short memory about Varney!
  • Can only think of three I'd really want

    1) Albert Adomah
    2) Ben Marshall
    3) Billy Sharp

Not interested in Varney. Did nothing for us, isn't doing much for anyone else that I can see. Move on.
  • 1. Magnus Okuonghae - Colchester
He wouldn't sign for us because he wanted too much money.
Do we want this type of character at the club?
  • How much is he getting at Colchester for christs sake?
  • Would love Billy Sharp
  • I think it was more that Colchester wanted too much money for him, rather than the player wanting more money
  • sean morrison - reading
    wordsworth - colchester
    simeon jackson - norwich
    jimmy bullard - ipswich
shelvey or scott allan on loan
  • I'd only take Wordsworth off that original lsit.

I'd like Balanta and Ephraim as well.

For me he only looked useful playing down the left. His finishing was apalling.
  • 1) Magnus Okuonghae
    2) Jason Puncheon
    3) Lee Barnard
    4) Simon Cox
    5) George Boyd
  • powelly said he had an 'A' and 'B' shopping list for the summer, i think there will be one or two signings that raise an eye brow or 2 in the championship from the 'A' list all depends on how quickly the true owners want us back in the prem
  • Wordsworth from Colchester, a good ball player and has a strike on him, can play central or on the left

Osborne from Brentford for his pace and strength, he's still only young and would be something different to our current players

Ledesma from Wallsall, the kind of player who can pick out a killer pass in a packed midfield

Huselklepp(sp) Big, Norwegian International, goal scoring not his strong point but link up play is

Keogh from Coventry to be backup for Solly, played 91 consecutive games until being sent off at the weekend, so he's pretty fit!
  • Don't know enough about lower league players to make an informed judgement, plenty get hyped on here and other similar forums but never sure how much people have actually seen them and how much it is based on one or two performances against us during a season. Surprised so many players from Pompey have been mentioned above given they have just been relegated from the Champ.
  • Ledesma is a great shout. Judge (County), Wordsworth (Col U) also impressed. All going to depend on the promotion and relegation picture.

I think with the forwards the best bet is going to be let the current group have their shot and bolster it with loan players: suggestions of Barnard, Jackson and Allan are in the right area. With Premiership teams snapping up bigger and bigger squads there will be a lot of opportunities there (but 23 competitors for the good ones).
  • pompey would be 18th without the 10 pt deduction

Good point, and lets not forget that they have got a squad about half the size of everyone else as well.

Some of their players will be good enough for us, same as some players from League 1, it's just picking them out that's the hard part, but I have complete faith in Powell to find them
