It does seem you either have to be pro Green or pro Waggy and never the twain shall meet.

Some of Green's fans took every opportunity to slag Waggy off (until the Carlisle pitch invasion anyway) and, possibly in reponse in some cases, an element of Waggy's fans do the same to Green.

The fact is that they are two very different types of player. Green has the quality on a good day to make something happen but Waggy puts in the hard yards and is a players' player.

At the moment I personally prefer Waggy starting but I wouldn't write Green off.
  • trouble with assists are they are so subjective.
a couple of years ago we signed a 'player of the year' from a team that got relegated. he is a full back who got double figure 'assists'. quite an achievement playing for a relegated side. his name, simon francis.

that concludes the evidence for the prosecution m'lord.

Agree but the debate was polarised very early with the silly "Green is a footballer, Waggy is an athlete" "Headless chicken", "Waggy's goals don't count" remarks.

As someone who has always seen Green's strengths but who preferred Wagstaff it does make me smile how the Green camp has moved from "Green is great" to "We haven't seen the best of Green yet".

The problem from the start was that Waggy was associated with the old bad times. Green was the shiney new toy and so had no faults.

As a result Green was judged on what he was GOING to do and Waggy on what he had actually DONE.

  • thought waggy had more than that, oh well
  • The total number of assists is less than the goals we've scored. I take it that winning a free kick or penalty from which a goal is scored doesn't count?
  • Or goals that there was no assist, eg player winning a tackle then scoring
  • or a misplaced pass from an opponent.
