Our Railway System Is Not Fit For Purpose

I am travelling to Leeds today for a conference. I booked a train on East Coast Trains at a single cost of £47:00. I took my seat at 13:25 ready to depart at 13:40. I am still sitting on the bastard at 18:30 currently at Stevenage and should have been at Leeds one and a half hours ago. I have no idea what time the train will get in. At present we have entered Stevenage station alighted passengers and have now reversed out again and are sitting here once again. The explanation is engineering works and a defective train. If it was not for my iPad I would have thrown myself under any passing train if could see one.

  • Shall I mention the EU dimension?
Go for it Len. All that money wasted on making our trains left-hand drive and changing the signals to an "official" red all because of those b*****ds in the EU was shocking - makes my blood boil. The ordinary man in the street isn't told about it though.
  • Actually I lied. I was in Stevenage for about 4 minutes but then we reversed out again.
