edited April 2012 in General Charlton
That were permanently on our books........would any of them be better than our current squad?

Spector Hudson Bailey Konchesky Richardson Iwelumo Ambrose Racon Wright Sam McCarthy Reid Varney Herman Gray to name a few

For example would you prefer Wiggins over Konchesky?

  • I'd take Reid ...but that's it to be honest
  • I'd probably take Bailey and Reid.

they wanted away .. they got away .. so f**k 'em
  • Bailey certainly, Ambrose is doing well now.

Apart from that I think they'd be second choice - Konchesky, Hudson, Reid, Iwelumo. But that's now, who knows who we might sign?

Not sure if I would have Bailey back, some of his passing was abysmal and gives me the horrors just thinking about them!
  • I'd have Hudson, Reid and bailey for sure.
  • Josh Wright I reckon will get better with time
  • I'm not sure if I'd even take Reid. Is he better than Jacko?
  • We need none of em.
  • Racon don't count - he's just hanging on for the money.

Definitely was, but not sure I'd have him back, probably not the player he was.
  • Andy reid would walk into our team.
  • Reid is a decent player when fit but therein lies the problem.

    How often is he fit?

(I'm talking Andy not Kyel by the way)
  • What about Shelvey or Eccleston in on loan from Liverpool. Shelvey did well at Blackpool this year when he was there.
  • Wouldn't want any of them back really.

Would love Jonjo back on loan, can't see it happening though.
  • Andy reid would walk into our team.
That's cos he's too fat to run.....................;-)
  • My thoughts were as a bench mark of our current squad vs those plying their trade in the Championship, personally wouldn't take any of them. SCP bought a lot of players in on 2/3 year contracts and many are under25, a team for this season and with 4-5 additions for next season too
  • Andy reid would walk into our team.
Only if there was a cake trolley in front of him.

  • none of them
  • My boss is a Palace fan, he says that Ambrose had a great first 18 months there but has been very poor for the last year and has been dropped recently.

Says Ambrose mainly gets in the side for his dead-ball delivery rather than his general play which he describes - and this will ring a few bells here - as "powder puff."

  • Reid is quality, his range of passing and his creativity is second to none in that league. He'd be amazing player for us, again.

Imagine a midfield of jackson, red, hollands, bailey.
  • Dale Stephens over Bailey anyday

  • Would have the following back:

    - Bailey
    - Reid
    - Ambrose (his scoring record for Palace speaks for itself)
    - Konchesky (amazed nobody else would have him back. Has played in the Premiership for 90% of his career. Wiggins is very good, but Konchesky would be top draw for a club at our level).
  • I am amzed no one has sayed about having this bloke back! his work ethic was outstanding and scoring abilty was unreal. I know he is not in the Championship but if only he would come out of retirement! he is charlton through and through
  • We need to look forward. Chris Powell and the management team have done a good job in getting in players with good spirit and are hungry to do well. I hope that continues with the kind of players we get in next year.

--------- From the list, I would only consider Spector

Spector (26) is decent in central defence back up / midfield.

Iwelumo depends on good service as a striker, and probably would manage to score a few with the team we've got, but would you swap Iwelumo for KMG ? No chance.

Andy Reid is a good player, but always a bit injury prone. Pardew never worked out how to balance the midfield with him in it. He is best off at Forest.

Konchesky, is a good player and left Charlton due to falling out with Curbs and not playing at left back. I have time for him but prefer Wiggins. Leicester fans like him. PK is also 30 and Rhoys Wiggins is 24.

Bailey - Always remember that excellent strike against Millwall at home. Too many misplaced and Hollywood passes, other than that. Would not want him back, he always gave his all and respect to that.

Ambrose - Warnock knew how to play him and got him scoring. Only really saw him really go for it at Charlton after Curbs (who also knew his best position) when he was trying to impress the opposition manager for a move. No way would have him back.

Josh Wright - Let Millwall have him, maybe Kenny Jacket knows how to keep in check 'the only way is essex' stuff from him and the family.

Hudson, ex Palace, with Cardiff, who may manage to go up (defeating WHU in the play off final), McCarthy - Palace - no.

Racon - no, injury prone - has he played for Millwall yet ?

Gray - no, never settled in London and would never come back. A waste of money that was.

Sam - too inconsistent, Varney (29)- worked hard, more of a Dirk Kuyt character than a proper goal scorer - would not have him back though.

Would much rather have a young hungry player like Wiggins than Konchesky and i respectfully think your bonkers for thinking otherwise.

Im surprised anyone wants players back from failed regimes. Most of them are no better than what we already have and just have more baggage attached.
  • Wouldn't want any of them back. They would improve our squad but not the first team. Let's continue signing young and hungry players.
  • Jeez none of them. Too many bad memories. we've just spent three seasons trying to get over the past.
Powell will go for young talent I'm sure. More players like Wiggins and Morrison please.
Leave the past and move on.
  • We will need 5/6 new quality players IF we have the funds to push for another tilt at promotion.

The word "quality" is key in my sentance above as it rules out all of our ex players.
  • Paul Taylor of Peterbrough would be a great signing. Lightening quick striker, 24 and has had a decent first season in champ.
