My priority list: 1) put in players he wants to learn more about including youngsters and the likes of Evina 2) try different patterns of play etc, etc. 99) 100+ points 100) sentimental decisions
In the same way that I didn't want any focus away from promotion this year I now want all the focus to be on doing the best we can in the Championship next year. Nothing else matters however nice it may feel in the short term
various threads. Play Sullivan, change the complete side next week, let Solly take a pen if we get one etc etc
Sorry but no, no, no. I want to win the last two games, I want at least 100 points, I want to beat Fulham's record points total for this division. No sentiment please. Just finish the job as efficiently and professionally as we started it.
Agree 100%, the rest of the squad can join in the celebrations on the pitch after when we have been promoted having won the league with a record points total of 103 You don't get many chances in football to re write history
can't believe that I;m agreeing with Fanny on this one !!! How will we know if some of the youngsters are up to it if we don't play them - and if we can't play them now then when can we ????? We should send Cook & N'Guessen back and then have the likes of Callum Harriott, Poyet, Cousins, Azeez & Sho-Silva on the bench.
There was one aim this season, promotion and a bonus of perhaps winning the title, both have been achieved. i can't see the problem in playing players like evina, haynes, hayes or sullivan. We have achieved what we wanted let some other players get a game or 2....97 points or a 103 who cares we are champions!!!
Got to say i'd like to see a few squad players in the team. Only the ones we'll be looking at playing next season so not the loans, hughes etc. Players like Evina and Haynes. Possibly with 1 or two youth on the bench. I'm sure CP knows who's ready though, guess i'll just trust his judgement. Its not as if he's earnt it...
I'm obviously in a minority of one here but so be it.
We've won the league, we're confirmed as Champions, it's been a glorious season but there's no room for a bit of sentimentality? Blimey, you've all got hearts of stone!
Surely these next 2 games are an opportunity to say thanks to all the players in the squad, not just those who have played regularly. I'm sure Chris Powell would say himself this is a squad game now and all the fringe players deserve an opportunity for us to show our appreciation of them. As Stackitsteve says above, I can see that some of the regulars would be a bit peeved to be left out of the starting line-up for the last game but there's no reason on earth why players like Evina, Sullivan, Hayes & Hughes can't have a run out as a substitute in one or other of the last 2 games. And wouldn't it be lovely to see Jason Euell run out one last time in a Charlton shirt?
And why not let Solly take a penalty if we are winning? I can't believe anyone wouldn't love to see him score a goal.
Football is a ruthless business accepted. But if you can't show a little a little heart and sentimentality when the team is in the position it is, when can you show it?
Massive paradox here. Blooding youngsters in a less pressurised environment is not a frivolous use of the next couple of games. Keeping squad players that we may come to rely on isn't an exercise in vanity. Giving players a rest after a superb effor, isn't sentimental.
If the likes of Hayes comes out of it still feeling part of the group, or Cousins a bit more aware of what he needs to do in pre-season or Yann's weary bones get a bit more of a break before pre-season or Powell confirming which aspects of his squad need to be strengthened then it's a far more professional use of the time than chasing a number. The lads have already broken more records than we could have possibly hoped for. And apart from that, it's entertainment. We lose sight of that all the time, with the tension of having to reach goals. For the next two games the results don't matter so it'd be great to see uninhibited fun football. Just imagine if we hit 100 points with a few kids and fringe players turning in wonder-performances.
Harriott-not fit,Poyet-not fit,Sho Silva-not ready,Azeez-not ready.Would people who have not seen the U18s play stop making judgements on them. The only player at the moment who is ready for the first team in my opinion is Jordan Cousins.I would not play any of the youth players in the first team,at the moment, there time will come.My team for Preston:-

Don't think anyone is making a judgement on an U18 - just saying that if CP thinks giving one or two of them experience helps their development then now's the time to do it even if their not 'ready' yet.
Also not sure playing Sullivan on his own will get us to 100+ points :-)
according to Newshopper CP isn't going to blood youngsters but is going to give his extended squad gametime over the next two games but still wants to break the 100 point barrier.

But we wouldn't most of the under 18's are along way away from first team football. We have brought the youngsters along for the ride in previous seasons when we were going nowhere, now we are moving in the right direction we should remain focused and finish the season on a winning run and take that momentum into next season as Norwich and Southampton did. I'm sure the younsters will see what is needed from the sidelines and by working with Paul Hart and Steve Avory. I agree it is a sport and should be entertaining and does carry too much pressure, but we have been on the slide for 7 years and as i have already said you don't get the chance to re write history very often in football. Stick with the team/squad that has played all season, no need for sentiment, and to describe it as anything else is rubbish IMO

fine line between sentiment and disrespecting opposition. i remember chelsea let makelele take a penalty against us on the last day and i felt that it was a bit of cheap sentiment. we don't need to be sentimental when every player has been outstanding all season. lets just get the points on board.

Oh dear. Are you really suggesting that watching from the sidelines is a substitute for being involved?
The experience and exposure that was given to Shelvey gave us the money to stay afloat. The money that we got from Jenkinson after a short run in the team financed the creation of the whole team. The experience given to Solly helped turn him into the best full back in the league. History is already written.
Remember, Norwich and Southampton used a lot of their own players in their squads, one of whom has gone on to be nominated for Premiership young player of the season less than a year later.
Just to be clear I'm just saying that it is worth considering doing what is best for the squad in the long run, rather than fixating on a meaningless target. If Powell thinks the answer is to keep the current team out there, with that in mind, it's fair enough.
Please remember that there will be 8,000 people at the last game who have not been regular attenders this season. What do you think they will want to see ? I believe that it will be the squad who have made us the Champions, not a bunch of young lads they may never have heard of. Commercially we need to fill the Ground next year, so lets be sensible and leave them with the best possible impression, to give us the best chance of selling more tickets.
Won the league. Don't care what the final points tally is. It doesn't matter. What does, is next season. If the final 2 games gives us a chance to take a further look at one or two of the loanees or youngsters to assess what wer'e gonna do/need next year, then that is what matters. Who's gives a flying F in a few years time whether we got 98 points or 100+
I want to see other players given a chance. Wiggins and Morrison are evidently tired because their performances haven't been as good as earlier on in the season. So why don't we try Evina and Osborne or Evina and Taylor and Cort together? Who would you rather see, Lee Cook warming the bench or Callum Harriott warming the bench or Dany N'Guessan or Azeez/Euell? I know the loanees we have have done well for us since coming in but I'd rather see Charlton players. I don't think people are trying to say 'change the squad completely' but a few changes won't hurt anyone.

Looking at today's team, absolutely delighted that Sir CP, as well as being an ace manager, does have a heart and shares my sentimentality.

'we want chis solly'
'to take this penalty'
(same tune as weve got chris solly, he's f**king quality)
And I agree with melrose.
