no time for sentiment imo

various threads. Play Sullivan, change the complete side next week, let Solly take a pen if we get one etc etc

Sorry but no, no, no. I want to win the last two games, I want at least 100 points, I want to beat Fulham's record points total for this division. No sentiment please. Just finish the job as efficiently and professionally as we started it.

  • LA .. I could not agree more .. CAFC is a football club, not a glee club or circus
  • If it were a circus, I know who the chief clown would be!
    ;o)
  • cheers
  • Agree completely. Not a time to start becoming a parody of ourselves.
  • Totally agree!

Stick Powell up front for the last few mins of the last game, keep everyone happy.
  • I agree, Large. Plus the guys that won the games deserve to play in what will feel like celebration games!
  • How many time are we going to have the chance to end a season with 103 points? Play the strongest possible side.
  • Damn two threads in which I agree with Large - I'll be slagging off you know who next

At the risk of being pedantic Johnny we actually have the chance to win 103 points every season, we just won't have 97 with two games to go very often.

I think the team sent out should be the best we have in every game, but sometimes playing youth players in games that are not going to effect the goal of the season makes sense. Shelvey was given a couple of games towards the season in 2008 and I think that helped in the following season.

I'd love 103 points, but I'd also like to see some of the players of the future get some exposure to the first team before the pressure of next season is upon us.
  • I would rather see some young players start and experience real game time but without the added pressure that needing points would do

Powelly wants 100 points he has said so , there are still mini goals to be achieved and he seems to still be setting them , but sullivan, azeez, Shiva, cousins, poyet etc should all be given the chance to get involved
  • It's a good opportunity to put a couple of the young players on the bench. Starting line-up should comprise players used to date though.
  • Can't see many changes myself.

The usual team have been brilliant all season, champions to top it off. They get to the last game of the season, a full stadium, chance to play in front of nearly 27 thousand people and Powell says 'Sorry lads, you're not playing this week I want to play all these players that have played smaller parts in our season.'

I can understand the idea of giving the younger players a chance while we have no pressure etc but i'd be pretty peed off if I was left out of the last game after the season we have had.
  • Agree large, I also think it's fair to say that we won't be getting over 100 points next season (but what a story that would be if it happened).
  • I'm with the big man

Agree 100 points next season is very unlikely but no big deal if we fall short by a point or two.
  • I'm obviously in a minority of one here but so be it.

We've won the league, we're confirmed as Champions, it's been a glorious season but there's no room for a bit of sentimentality? Blimey, you've all got hearts of stone!

Surely these next 2 games are an opportunity to say thanks to all the players in the squad, not just those who have played regularly. I'm sure Chris Powell would say himself this is a squad game now and all the fringe players deserve an opportunity for us to show our appreciation of them. As Stackitsteve says above, I can see that some of the regulars would be a bit peeved to be left out of the starting line-up for the last game but there's no reason on earth why players like Evina, Sullivan, Hayes & Hughes can't have a run out as a substitute in one or other of the last 2 games. And wouldn't it be lovely to see Jason Euell run out one last time in a Charlton shirt?

And why not let Solly take a penalty if we are winning? I can't believe anyone wouldn't love to see him score a goal.

Football is a ruthless business accepted. But if you can't show a little a little heart and sentimentality when the team is in the position it is, when can you show it?
  • I remember when Pardew made a sentimental substitutiion v Coventy last game of the season.

Some old full back played out of position in midfield.

Game was passing him by. You know the rest.

  • Just think he wont hardly change anything.
  • I agree we wanna win them both

Wouldnt mind having youngsters on the bench and Jason Euell maybe getting 15 mins against Hartlepool but i don't see the point in playing players who wont be here next season.
  • I would like to see Taylor in goal to see if we can do without a keeper on the bench next season............
  • Man U v Millwall cup final, Fergie subbed his goalkeeper

    Only because he'd fallen asleep!

Seem to remember Millwall not having a shot.

True, and I'd be all for some of that if we were on 92 points or out of reach of 100. It's fantastic that we have won promotion, won the league and there is still time left for a big 100 point milestone. We all want that. We will all look back on that achievement more fondly than seeing Cedric Evina (with all due respect) playing 30 mins.

It is just circumstance that we have the chance to get 100 points next week and then the final game is the big party which we knew we want to win.

It's not that we don't WANT to be sentimental, it's just that there maybe isn't room/enough games left for it!

No. I still remember the one he missed at Welling. Bloody disgrace.
  • can't believe that I;m agreeing with Fanny on this one !!! How will we know if some of the youngsters are up to it if we don't play them - and if we can't play them now then when can we ????? We should send Cook & N'Guessen back and then have the likes of Callum Harriott, Poyet, Cousins, Azeez & Sho-Silva on the bench.
  • i would not play anyone who will not be featuring next year which probably rules outlikes of Hughes, Hayes etc...they did well in the games they played for us and i will be forever grateful but they are not club legends and wont be around after the summer (i include Euell in that too). I see no issue however in some of the youth being on the bench for their development and would like to see Evina play one of the games as I assume he will be here next year and could do with some game time.
