Championship expectations

  • With this squad top by 3 points, with investment I expect us to be let into the Champions League so we can win that as well as both of the beer cups
Assume you were at the game yesterday and beer not worn off yet!

I think that we will get off to a good start, but there are a lot of games. Depends on who we buy. Sad, as I love this squad and they way they jelled so quickly, Waggy is Charlton through and through and I would like him to be in the squad at least. Kermit - magnificicant. Solly - superb, etc, etc. Who do we lose? Do not even want to think about it yet. Another beer me thinks.
  • The core of the squad needs to be kept with 4 or 5 quality players brought in.
  • Significant investment will be made.

I think we'll make the play offs..
  • As for next season with the vibe that you hear of the 'hidden' money and the standard of player picked up last summer and the alleged wages paid this year , the mystery money men I don't think will want to hang around ...
    2% top two 15% play offs 41% 7th-12th 40% 13th-20th 2% relegation
  • Number one in South London.
  • As others have said, all down to investment, but given the "significantly wealthy" owners (I think that was the Richard Murray quote?) and the way the new board supported the restructure last summer, I'd suspect that the plans are to enhance the squad enough to be aiming for a top six finish.

Personally, I'm hoping for top six - my expectations are mid-table. If SCP and the Mysterons continue to build the club back up in the measured, intelligent and quietly ambitious way they have done to date though, who knows where this journey is going to end (actually I just looked into a crystal ball and the answer is top 6 in the Prem by 2015... FACT)
  • No idea. There's not a lot of weak links in there and if the Sheff clubs come up there'll not be any obvious dead wood. I'd accept survival at the moment, but like all promoted teams it's going to depend on who comes in. If it's Messi and Iniesta we'll go up as Champions, if it's Lisbie and McCormack, we may struggle.
  • We will need to strengthen in certain areas but, with shrewd investment in the squad, I can see us challenging around the play-offs in a division which may be a slightly easier next season than this.

  • I think our current squad would finish mid table but Im sure we will invest well in the squad again and look to get into the play offs.
  • I think it is a big shift upwards both in terms of fitness and ability, bring in a few right players and we could be aiming for top half
  • I'm going to wait till we've finished this season first, seen who's gone up with us, who's not gone up from the Champ & who's come down from the Prem.

Anything else is guess not an expectation, particularily when we don't have a clue what sort of cash we might be able to spend.

Few is the key word here. SCP has built a fantastic team spirit which needs to be harnessed not destroyed by bringing in mecenaries the likes of which have just been relegated with Doncaster. In SCP we trust and I am sure he will make the the odd tweak here and there but at the same time maintain the squad togertherness. Mid table will do me fine, play offs a bonus.
  • Definitely nothing to fear as far as I am concerned. I think we would have done OK in the Championship this season and with 1 or 2 signings I'd be disappointed if we wern't at least in the top half pushing for the Play-Offs
  • Funny, all this caution is understandable but you can only play the opposition that's in front of you and although the score line doesn't look like it my recollection of the fulham game was our players didn't look too out of place and a bit of regular exposure to similar opposition would see them close the gap... A lot of investment needed ? I don't think so...
  • Well the Championship contains mighty giants like Watford, Barnsley and Palace - we shouldn't have too much trouble staying up. As a young side it is difficult to know th elimit of it's potential. I doubt many Championship sides will have better defenders than Wiggins, Solly or Morrison which is an excellent staring point. Have no doubts Holland can play at that level and Kermogant is Championship class. Bwp is so unpredictable - he could hit it off. I'm pretty sure we already have enough to be comfortable at least and with two or three signings of the right quality, we ought to be up with the favourites.
  • I think there will be enough money from Messrs Jiminez and Slater, wisely invested by Sir Chris in key areas, to see us comfortably mid table.
  • Expecting 5-6 players in and an equal number out the door. Board will expect a play off push imo.

agreed about our defence, if mccarthy and hudson are playing in decent championship sides then this lot are premier league!

  • As it stands, mid-table. Higher will depend on a few signings - we've got 7 or 8 players who would not look at all out of place in a top Championship team, but it's a squad game these days and we'd need to strengthen in a few places to challenge for the play-offs or above.
  • Didn't we also play the team that's currently on top of the championship table ?
  • No, think our reserves played theirs though!
  • Mid table? Pah!

I want to win the thing!
    :o)
  • So our squad is somewhere between the top of the championship and mid table premiership... Sorted then...

    Like your style mate...

  • I've heard we are keeping the squad together and only adding 1 def, 1 mid and 1 att

    We shall see
  • One thing Powell said at Bromley Addicks was that Poyet Snr had said he (Poyet) had stayed loyal to his league 1 players for too long.

For all the smiles CP has shown he can be very ruthless when he needs to be.

With another 6 or 7 players added I can see us having a good run at the play-offs but I don't think it will be easy.

We'll all be better able to judge when then we know what the squad looks like.

Don't agree with that at all. Owners/ management will be ruthless in pursuit of the next prize. They will continue to foster ''squad togertheness''. But I think there will be half a dozen debutants when Charlton kick off on the opening day next August.

It's your prerogative; I'll have a bet with you for charity there are less than six debutants on the opening day of the season. Care to back it up with some cash IA?
