no time to sit still NLA and pat everyone on the back , thankfully we didn't at this stage last season(sit still that is) and moves were taking place early on to get the right people in and i'm sure this will be happening once promotion is confirmed we gotta move quick to be ahead of our rivals they've got their pay packets and done a good job well done but i'm sure if we were relegated they'd all be moving out the exit just as quick
and obviously they deserve big congratulations but no time for sentiment onwards and upwards
and you can't just move em on that easily look at docherty i'm pretty sure we're paying the bulk of his wages even tho he's on loan at wycombe and the likes of hayes are on big money and wont be easy to shift if we want to
Do you reckon? I think after his demonstration at Wycombe we might get a few expressions of interest. He's a league one player at best, and I expect he is on league one wages..
Loan signing Danny N'Guessan helped secure another vital three points for Charlton as the league leaders moved one step closer to promotion.
Charlton were keen to get on the front foot, and started brightly. Indeed, it was N'Guessan who could of put them ahead after barely a minute, but his powerful shot was well saved by David Grof. In a lively first half, Johnnie Jackson saw his header go agonisingly wide, whilst Ben Hamer had to be alert to foil the dangerous Alex Nicholls.
The opener came just past the half hour mark, when the returning skipper whipped in an inviting free kick to allow N'Guessan to head home. The goal meant that he has scored in all three of his appearances at The Valley since completing a loan switch from Millwall.
Charlton went in ahead, but in the second half they could not build on their lead. The visitors were almost level when Hamer failed to collect the ball from Emmanuel Ledesma's free kick, and veteran striker Jon Macken failed to put away the chance as the hosts began to look a little edgy.
After intricate feet and a wonderful through ball from Jackson the ever present Bradley Wright-Phillips could of extended the hosts lead, but his effort lacked any real power as he saw it sail wide. In a half short on chances, N'Guessan almost added to his goal, but visiting keeper Grof was able to deny him.
Although it wasn't a vintage display from the South Londoners, it was a performance that secured another three points over a vital Easter period. Together with Saturday's triumph over Oldham, the result means that Charlton are now within touching distance of returning to the Championship.
A long journey north awaits Chris Powell and his troops next weekend, and depending on results, it could be a journey well worth making for The Valley faithful.
Great report, but "could of" ??!!! Needs correcting this...
There's league one wages and there's league one wages .... They didn't join us for the south london scenery And an old pro like him who comes on a "free" will be on a fair whack
KentSaddler , can you shed any light on why the Walsall fans clapped BWP off?
Did they? I heard some booing, but didn't see any of them clapping him off. He clapped them, but that's something completely different.
That's what I thought. They had been winding him up with 'You're worse that your brother' chants and maybe he was just sarcastically applauding them as he went off?

Agree with that, we'll have no problems moving Hayes on at the end of the season, he scores and makes goals so there will be plenty of L1 clubs wanting to take him - we might even make a few quid profit out of it? He's got to be worth 200K given his record in this league for us and Wycombe.
I have been trying to watch the highlights on the Charlton Player for both the Walsall and Oldham game the past few days, but it doesn't seem to work - does anyone else experience this? I have tried with both Chrome and Firefox

I agree, that lolan spell at wycombe will have done wonders for his worth on the transfer market!

Yep i think if Wycome stay up he will end up back there or Leyton 0
We came out of the blocks super fast again and we looked like we would take them to pieces. But we slowed down and the game became scrappy. After we got the goal we shut up shop and got the 3 points. A very average performance on the whole.
You know I can understand people saying this player played poor or has been playing poor , but to suggest that players need replacing before the season is over when we are top of the league in a real clear position really does baffle me ,
This... though i did have a little panic attack during our blip.
I have a soft spot for l'il ol Walsall stuck in the middle of West Brom, Villa, Wolves and Brum land .. I hope they manage to stay up
Had a bit of a problem with them since 1987 after paying my hard-earned £2 (under 16 then) to stand in the luxurious Arthur Wait Stand at Selhurst and watch a blonde-mulleted David Kelly make us look silly. They were in Div 3, we were Div 1. Not good memories.
That said, don't mind if they stay up this year after not parking the bus on Monday. Was just glad it wasn't the same Jon Macken playing who got Feeeesh subbed at half-time a few years back when he was playing for Man City.

As fans we can do no more
And an old pro like him who comes on a "free" will be on a fair whack
