Matt Taylor

After having a pretty solid season up to mid march, pairing up with morro nicely and keeping the conceded goals tally right down, I feel pretty sorry for him to be dropped for the final run-in. Although I like Cort and he is very good, I'd like Taylor to get the recognition he deserves if we get promoted.

  • Completely agree. He did really well when he came on today and has played a big part in our success this season as we have been steadfast at the back for much of it.
  • League One winners medal and well deserved.
  • taylor has been solid all season he was rested for one game and unfortunately for him cort had a great game and has since kept him out of the team i do think we will see taylor again this season though
  • I like Taylor but you can't fault Cort's performances. Cort is taking his chance with both hands.
  • Sad for Taylor. Can't change it after today though.
  • I really hope so - him and morro work quite well together.
  • When was the last time we conceded from open play? Taylor has been excellent but Cort has come in and made himself undroppable.
  • taylor can rest in the knowledge he was one of the back 4 will we remember from this year, mr consistent and a very good player.

i think you will find it was against notts county on the 10th of march
  • Big bust up with Powell following the Notts County debacle. Claimed he was the scapegoat.

    Allegedly.

  • Cort was a rock today and can't be dropped. I'd maybe give Morro a rest for Taylor Monday.
  • All 3 have been excellent.

He played against Scunny after County but has been out since then.

Got to remember he has had some injury problems as well when playing for Exeter. Beauty of having a good squad, which we'll see on Monday.

  • I have always thought that Cort was probably the better of the two but obviously you can't change a winning team. Cort got his chance and he's taken it so now its Taylors turn to be patient and when he's called upon he will be ready just as Cort was.

    Where did you hear that?

I doubt it SCP made a point of praising him in his post match interview on the Beeb - Cort has juts been very good.
  • Taylor has been excellent this year and there's really nothing between them. All the players who have been dropped have been so due to luck (or lack of) rather than poor performances, perhaps with the exception of Wright-Phillips. Taylor is aggressive, reads the play well and is excellent in the air. Due to age and pace, it will be interesting to see if Powell keeps him next year.
  • BWP has been in fine scoring form recently, so it's evident that today he was just rested rather than dropped.

Again more to do with tactics, the nature of the game, the poor pitch - and a match just 48 hours later.

Pleased to hear that Matt Taylor slotted in seamlessly today.
Great to have that quality from the bench.
  • Agree with all. Seems Taylor needed a rest after playing week in week out. Cort has came in and been quality so has kept his place.

Good to have someone like cort on the bench and know he can come on and be a rock. Taylor has been a big part of our season and has performed brilliantly next to morro

I meant the first time wright-Phillips was dropped. Today, yeah perhaps Powell wanted a more physical presence.

  • We had a strong looking bench today ... i think it was from Ikea.
  • Taylor has been immense all season, but the Colchester and Notts County games, followed up by Bournemouth too, he looked like he was losing it a bit and was 'rested' for Cort, who I think is a better player overall, but there's no doubting he was an integral part of this promotion winning team
  • Morrison/Taylor/Cort.

Much better debate than last seasons version: Dailly/Doherty/Llera.........................

The Ancient, the Leprechaun and the Deluded. To think we were in the play off semis in our first season with those 3 centre backs to choose from...

  • Must've been the manager...
  • Played his part yesterday gave the team and the fans a big lift when he entered the fray late on to add a liitle bit more average height, experience and dogged determination to an understandably tiring back line.

Agreed. It was a good move from SCP allowing Solly and Wiggins to help Dale and Brad P at times without over committing. I also though Dale did well and choose the right times to close down play and when to hold so we did not lose shape.

Don't let Large hear you say that

  • The great news is that we don't need to strengthen in that position for next season. Cort has been playing really well and Taylor shouldn't be disapointed, he has done his bit and may yet be able to do a bit more. Coudl quite easily be first choice next season.
  • All three centre backs have performed well whenever asked. I would think all three would be ok in The Championship but I still think we need to strengthen there.
