I would have dropped him for Scunthorpe as thought his confidence was shot but he has played well the last 2 games so good on him

2) Your 100% right that is what he is paid to do, and the boy has done more good than bad but it doesnt sit well with some having nothing to moan about, We have not had a keeper at the club who wouldve made that reaction save since Deano, now that is the only comparison i would give him to Deano as he is not in that league but we have had a lot worse than hamer in the last 6 years
The only criticism i have of him is that he tries to get it too quickly up top at every opportunity
Hamer won us that game with that save Turning point of the game and could potentially be a season defining moment
We treat Hamer like we treat refs on this board. Point out the one mistake and claim it makes them unfit to be there, but claim the good parts are par for the coure.

Sorry Southend, but I'm afraid you saying you would have dropped Hamer for Scunny says it all - there's a reason Powelly's in charge, and that reason is because he's a good manager who picks the right players. We've been top for 6 months and we've done it with the same goalkeeper the whole way. The evidence suggests he might be quite good
Obviously Roberts and Powell worked their magic at the training ground post Notts County because I honestly thought he had lost the plot after those games.
I really hope he improves and is good enough to hold his own in the Championship but personally dont feel he is at that level unlike maybe 6/7 of our current first team who could.

The players trust Powell he trusts them rightly or wrongly I can't decide as sometimes he makes the subs so late and not at all , but the Alex Ferguson style of you got us here you get us out of it or you got us in to the fantastic position you take the credit is something I have huge admiration for because it takes balls

An effective but not attractive performance (something champions do well. . .) but another game down & another 3 points. We grew into the game, especially when we got the ball of the floor in the 2nd half. Yann is too good in the air, which is good as an alternative, but we sometimes resort to that too easily. Hamer did OK, especially as you could see he was struggling with an injury for the most part. Did seem to have a lack of communication for most of the 1st half amongst the back 5 though. Maybe Taylor is the talker of the group, or perhaps more simply it was the change of personnel. I think the selection of Cort (who played very well) was more thinking towards Saturday & how SCP is hoping to deal best with Rhodes. Saying that, Taylor did have him quiet for the game in November at the Valley. Wiggy had a bit more freedom towards the end to go forward as he did earlier the season, resulting in a goal & some other good crosses. Midfield was mostly bypassed, but looked more comfortable with the Hollands/Russell partnership. Was interesting to see that Hollands was the "holding" player for the 2nd half though. N'Guessan looked OK (another option for the long, quick ball from Hamer or the defenders) but you could tell he wouldn't last much into the 2nd half. Worked hard whilst he was on, with & without the ball. With his goal though, he has already offered more than Clarke . I would like to see either of N'Guessan or Waggy play with Cook or Green so that we can then have a hussler as well as someone who can whip a ball in. Another good finish from BWP, which his hard work earned, but with their number 4 & the awful game that their GK had, I would have liked to see a bit more pressure put on them when they had the ball at their feet. A good "champions elect" result which should have given us some confidence back & something to build on for Huddersfield on Saturday.
Spot on about their number 4 Kentish_Addick. He seemed to only have one mode - panic. I think all I ever saw him do was pound the ball into the East Stand regardless of whether or not he was under pressure

Good performances have been hard to come by for the Addicks in recent weeks, and the first half was a similar affair, with neither side playing to their full potential or creating many opportunities. Dany N'Guessan's early fluke goal was the difference as the teams entered the tunnel at the end of the first half, after his mis-hit cross soared through opposition 'keeper Sam Walker's hands. Further openings were limited, and the hosts' main threats came through the unlikely sources of their fullbacks, assigned with corner-taking duties after first-choice specialists were left out of the side.
Neither side dominated in the first 45 minutes, but the Addicks came out of the starting blocks with a new purpose after the break. As has been the case so often for the league leaders this season, the foundations for success lay at the back end of the pitch, with centre-back Leon Cort taking the plaudits for his part in a solid defensive display. The second goal appeared an inevitability, and came through the trusted source of Wright-Phillips, nodding in his 21st goal of the season on the hour mark to finish off a well-worked free-kick. The star striker recently joined an exclusive club in Charlton history, becoming first player in over a decade to score 20+ league goals in a campaign, and with 8 games left to go, looks certain to keep the count rising.
The visitors provided worthy opposition for the Addicks, but lacked a cutting edge up front to make their build-up play count. The Glovers came painfully close to halving the deficit when Lawson D'Ath's lofted shot came back off the bar, and team-mate N'Gala should have scored earlier in the match, but fired straight at opposition 'keeper Ben Hamer from 6 yards when it looked easier to score. Attacker Andy Williams had been on an excellent run of form, with 12 goals in his previous 14 games, but never troubled Hamer as the away side were largely restricted to half-chances.
With the game ambling to a close, Charlton added their third and final goal through Darel Russell, finishing off a sublime counter-attacking move. Yann Kermorgant brought a chipped pass from Rhoys Wiggins down, before hooking the ball out wide to the full-back, who's unselfish cross was poked in by an onrushing Russell. Chants of 'We Want Four' from the Valley faithful came to nothing, but they were not left disappointed with the 3 points that move them closer towards a return to the Championship. As the season draws to a close, manager Chris Powell can be pleased with his side's 9 point advantage and confident of finishing off an impressive first full season in charge.

Totally agree with the first part of that sentence because Hamer certainly did make a useful save at 1-0, although the most amazing thing about it was that the Yeovil lad chose to shoot straight at him with the goal wide open. But fair enough he was in the right place at the right time. Don't think anyone can claim as a 'fact' that it won us the match, though, unless they know for a fact what would have happened had the shot gone in. You might take the pessimistic view that we'd have folded but I don't think it would have made any difference. We were well on top at that point and in fact scored a well worked second goal just a few minutes later. We were more lively and enterprising than I've seen us of late and think we'd have won anyway. Not season defining, just a decent stop.

We will never know that, and while it was a good save, from my angle it did look to be straight at him and at a comfortable height, so you would expect the keeper to save those.
His kicking, as an attacking weapon, is excellent, his throwing needs work, he doesn't seem to have a long throw?

I agree, although the shot is virtually straight at him and at a comfortable height. Decent save but hardly the miracle that some seem to think.
Crikey, you lot are hard to please. A shot straight at the keeper still needs to be saved. Much like a penalty 12 yards out still needs to be put away and someone needs to be there for the tap-in. It was a top save and we needed it. Bit too harsh to take the credit away because you think it looked easy
There's a difference between being pleased by the save and thinking that it makes Ben Hamer the Second Coming, as some seem to on this site. Put it this way, what would your reaction have been if he hadn't made that save?
I don't think anyone's been going overbaord with the praise, I just think that he gets a lot of stick from people looking for a scapegoat and so others are pointing out his contribution on the day. I would have been mortified if he hadn't made that save, but the thing is he did, and I think you have to have some amount of balance in your reactions - the horror I would have felt if he'd fluffed it makes me feel that I should acknowledge the importance of it as well. It's not going to win any awards but it was at an important juncture in the match and it had to be made, so I think it's fair to point it out. Particularly as a few focused on the one bad kick he did rather than anything else he contributed
watched the highlights again firstly the save came on the back of 5 mins of yeovil pressure, the shot did look better from the nth upper than it did on the highlights, i still think it was a match winning moment and he done well to save it from close range and done well to use his hands , very good reactions and postioning
