Make that extra effort for the Yeovil game.

edited March 2012 in General Charlton
With the curtains starting to come down on the league one season, Charlton Athletic find themselves on the brink of immortality at the summit of the League one Mountain.

With 9 games to go Charlton are doing what Charlton do best and that's test the nerves of the Valley faithful, Tuesday brings with it a much needed desire for 3 points and a chance to send out that all important signal of intent to the chasing pack.

If you can make the game tuesday do all you can, because as the sun sets on this season these last 9 games are what some might say are the most important in our recent history.

  • Was going to put up a similar post. Agree 100% lets really get behind the boys and create an atmosphere like when we played Leeds or Swindon a couple seasons back. COYR
  • can you imagine if we didnt go up this year. Games like this are so important to get right not only from the players but also the fans COYR
  • getting agg from the mrs cos i want to go Charlton on one of our boys 4th birthday

negotiating leaving home at 6.45pm (usually leave at 6.15pm) and being at the mercy of the blackwall tunnel , just hope there's not some chuff concert or whatever at the o2

i tried the he'll understand in a few years line
  • Hope we start well and lift the crowd because I suspect the general feeling will be extremely nervous. Can't afford to let Yeovil smell any fear and get a foothold in the game. I am confident we will do the bizzo. COYR

Could you not take the young lad?
  • There will be 12000 declared gate, with about 10000 in the ground.
This is an unattractive fixture and it's a school night - from a family point of view.

When push comes to shove, our core support is only 10k - but we have the potential to triple that (and more) if playing in the top flight for long enough.
  • Managing to get to it as it's a Tuesday night game (I work Saturdays).

After a slight dip in form I'm looking forward to getting down to the Valley and encouraging the boys back to winning ways!
  • Stand up if you love Charlton! Will be singing from the East ( probably on my own! ).
  • I hate midweek home games.

Always seems to be a crap crowd, crap atmosphere and a crap performance. During the last one I actually found myself sitting there wishing I'd worked late as I'd left "early" and there was a pile of shit waiting for me to do in the morning. That's entertainment.

tend to agree with that, always an anti-climax.
I used to love the friday night games many years ago.

Is there such a thing as a crowd psychologist? You know, like a sports psychologist for the crowd because I just don't get this nervousness thing. I think some people need their heads looking at. No wonder we struggle more at the Valley. Other teams must sense it and it's pretty pathetic to be honest.

Think it happens at most clubs tbh.

Human nature I suppose. Gets my goat though.

Not at Millwall SHG. Their crowd comes bowling in, in their pastel shade fake Nicholson polo shirts, and create a cauldron of noise from start to finish where everything the home team does is applauded and everything the away team does is c***ed off - from fellas falling out of the top tier, through to getting mileage out of the death of oppo fans, via the odd bottle or 10 in the direction of a linesman for daring not to raise his flag. It's called "passion", apparently.

We can all learn a lesson from those fellas. "Don't breed with your own relatives" is what I've learnt.

I'll be singing with you, SG but not standing up !

Trying to get a few casual fans to come along and upgrade our 2 u11 season tkts - we need all the bums on seats we can get on Tues night to make THAT noise.

SCP will no doubt disagree but this is a "must win" IMHO.
  • "Must win"?

    Oh purleeeease!
  • "Must win"?

    Oh purleeeease!
Why ? If we continue dropping points/losing games , where does that leave us at the end of the season ?

If we did lose on Tuesday night, is the team likely to be on song/full of confidence for the trip 4 days later to Huddersfield ?

I am not being pessimistic, merely realistic much as it pains me to .

If you read my posts throughout the season so far, I am one of the true believers - never bet against us etc etc

But the nerves are kicking in now , both on the pitch and from my seat in the East Stand. There's no disputing that fact and brilliant as we've been for the majority of this season, we have to face the possibility of a real fight to gain those last crucial points.

  • theres the opinion of those who go to away games and then those who don't...he dosen't.

I agree it is a must win with Huddersfield after
  • I love the way some people say "I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist". Really cracks me up that little sentence, every time.

    It's what lazy people say
  • Ah, Mr Happy's back.

Loving the fact that you are dissing my Charlton credentials Mike, really I am.

So then Einstein. This "must win" game. What happens if we don't win it - is that our season over with?
  • I'm not 'dissing' your credentials. People who have gone to Bournemouth and Scunthorpe away on the whole will have a different opinion on charlton at the moment to those who haven't.

Obviously it's not. But given the way we played recently, I believe its a must win game if we are going to go on and win the league.
  • But we have picked up 4 points from those two away games Mike and none from the past two home games. Why should these superb real fans who go away be more negative than the plastic home supporters?
  • because the last 2 away performances have been awful. Yes I know we won one, that was big time lucky and it looks like that luck has run out.
  • But you just said it was a "must win" game - but now you're saying there's another one after it? I'm confused Mike. Help me out here.

By the way, I was at Bournemouth, thanks - have a look at the Bournemouth tickets thread if you don't believe me (which I started, incidentally). Didn't see you there, but am not doubting that you went - that would be plain silly, wouldn't it?

You really don't know me, do you, Off_it . And SO pleased I've brought a little light relief today !

Maybe you should buy a dictionary and look up those two little words. You appear to have no idea of their meaning....

As for you, Rothko, sweetie, I'm crossing you off my Xmas list.
  • I didn't say you weren't at Bournemouth...read back. Knowing you, you thought we looked like Barca vs Bournemouth and really it should have been 4-0 to us.

Nope, as far as I am aware I've never met you - but you never know.

And I know very well what the two words mean thanks sweetie. It's just that pessimists always think of themselves as being realists.

Not saying that in your case necessarily, but that's what happens.

Then you will acknowledge that we actually got a " get out of gaol" card in added time, Off_it ...or had you already exited the building by then ?

There are rose coloured specs ( which I have been accused of wearing many a time) and there are people who REALLY should have gone to Specsavers . Guess I know which one you were at Bournemouth, mate.
